Meanwhile (pouf -the romance blown out the window by a harrumphing grow) check out this lil' bit of reading...
A box full of joy
Ooooh, I just checked the Polish chick pictures on feathersite. I think that the white pobble-heads are actually white crested black Polish, and the salt and peppers appear to be silver polish. How cool is that?!
Ah-hah! A note from a mysterious lurker! Brahma! Must go check feathersite pics for types....
Grow. What reading?
Greyish yellow chicks possibly light brahma?
Gee, I wonder if I have any fayoumi in there?!
I forgot to link it and can't find it again. Had about 15 breed IDs

found.
She sits on the sagging mattress of the residential hotel's narrow bed. A bare bulb flickers from a frayed cord draped across the fly specked ceiling. Eerie shadows cast by the blue glow of the PC monitor distort her features as she types the words:
"Submit chick id to reference thread."
You trots on dromedary's knots too!!
Reference reference thread to check chick ID....

Thanks for the continued help, folks! Great job!
Catscan, what are you doing in a residential hotel with a lightbulb on a frayed cord? You could've stayed a a Holiday Inn Express and then you would have known all the breeds instantly!
Somebody oughtta get Catscan a Craftmatic!
Silkiechick - definitely some hitting the nail on the head in that list! I am not sure about the salmon faverolles, I thought they had feathered legs as chicks? None of the ones in #1 have feathered legs. The other thing is that the breeds should come from the lists I put in the first post, and the list doesn't include any leghorns or BLRW, so I think f#5 and 10 might be off. 10 might be a different type of Wyandotte though?
I can't wait to see them all growing up and getting their little feathers. It'll be neat to see if all the ones in the first picture (the white-ish ones) all end up white or varied.
nope then those r not favs they should be feather legged if they were. ur second list i thought i saw leghorns listed but i was half asleep, lol. for wyandotte ask scott-maniac he raises them and he would know. i know that was not a color listed but looking at feathersite looked like it might be if so that might be ur rare breed one.
How fun! The guessing is just as fun as the pics! Lil Wut Wut babiez!
Claire, your pics are so true to life.. it's just like being there! I open a pic and say.. Oh lil boo booz.. toot toot babiez... LOL Ask Catscan.. all my lil booobie babiez get that kind of talk.. LOL Pretty good that a pic can draw that out of me so quick!
I love the lil Ameracaunas.. lil hootie owl faces and puffy cheeks!
Good luck on IDing them.. I'm not much help. :)
Claire i don't have the time right now but they are all so CUTE and congratulations!!! Got to get out and secure some things expecting high winds and SNOW! got to cover my pigeons and get a light on my baby pigeons.
My budpest are due to hatch today and i have light on them.
Beautiful Babys Claire can't wait to see them grow into some handsome Ladies and Gents and hopefully more Ladies than Gents LOL {{{{{Hugs}}}}} Har♥
Now somewhere in my reading last night was a blurb about black JG chicks being white on bottom as chicks...how are the non-pobbled white butts??
I am SO living vicariously.
Harmony - sure hope all your pigeons (I call 'em my pidgy-widgies now) are gonna be OK. Take care! In theory, all my chicks should be girls because I paid extra for the layer assortments, which are supposed to be all girls, rather than straight run. Oh, got 'em all Marek's vaccinated too!
Grow - butt pictures forthcoming.
And then, a mysterious discovery! (gotta wait for that though)
Here is black chick # 1 - and I noticed after I took this pic something that I think is totally adorable - look at her toes....see how the middle toe is pink and the others are black? Isn't that cute?! I wonder which black breeds on that list have black legs with a single pink toe?!

OK, next up are the 5 caramel-ish colour stripey ones. Sort of partridge-ish colouring.
What do you think? Could be partridge rocks I guess. What else could they be?
Wait, I hear you say it. There are 6 birds in that picture. I know. That's because that one is....
Is partridge the same as Dark Cornish? They look like Dark Cornish to me...but I am no expert and am learning!
the black legs (now i can be so wrong here) look jersey giant to me. Mine have black/grey legs with some pink on the toes.
Ohhh, good eye Jenks! Here's what Welp hatchery says about baby dark Cornish: light reddish buff to darker reddish brown, with dark markings on head and dark stripe on outer edge of back.
Could be?!? There is a pic of supposed dark Cornish chicks if you scroll almost to the bottom of this page.
http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGA/Cornish/BRKCornish.html
They look slightly paler than mine, but it's not a great pic. I think Jenks could be on to something!
Cool Luvs! The JGs are on the list of potential options, so it very well could be! None of my barred rock chicks have had that black leg with the pink toes thing going on, so that tells me it might not be BR. I don't have any JG, so that would be super !
And now............
the........
MYSTERIOUS DISCOVERY!!!
(cue mysterious music here)
I didn't notice yesterday in my exuberance and excitement over the chicks.
Today, when I was taking pictures, I saw it!!
Two of the buffs (and I thought that they were all buff orpingtons).....
have......
FEATHERED LEGS!!!!
(more music... da duhm da duhm.....)
you will know in a few weeks they will tower over the other babies. I have 3 Blue JG's that are 1 week younger than my RIR (these are chicks)and they tower over them. Friendly birds. I can go and gather eggs from under the hens no problem now the RIR(these are pullets) wow they make this sound like a Dinosaur ready to kill.
Silkiechick - I'm sorry, you're right, Silver Leghorns ARE in the second list. I'm such a dunce.
ZZ, the list includes: "Black and White Giants" (in the brown layer list) which I assumed to be JGs. Are there some other kind of "giants" that I don't know about? Could be Australorps too!
that mysterious discovery blonde chick w/ feathered feet is the bomb, lol what a chubby little fluffy butt. makes ya just want to cuddle and kiss it,lol. could that one be a light brahma?? i've only ever had buff brahmas i'll have to go back and look at baby pics.

Yes could be Aus's also. There is something about the color of their pads of their feet to know the difference. Also the Aus's will have a "green" sheen to them. So I have been told.
Australorps and Jersey Giants chicks look a lot a like for a while--although the Jersey Giants tend to have more white, even on their faces. I had a mix of Jersey Giant and Australorp/Jersey Giant crosses and the ones with more white were the pure bred. Also the bottom of their feet are suppose to be different: white on the bottom of the Australorps, yellow on the Jersey Giants. I am not sure how young this is apparent. It didn't work with the crosses.
Are all the crested ones Polish?
I think your dark mystery brown is a Dark Brahma maybe? No- no leg feathers....hmm learnin a lot looking!
It's snowing...so you are stuck with me guessing.

I do believe all the crested ones are Polish. Houdans are crested but have 5 toes. Crevecoeurs and Sultans are also crested but I don't think that's what I've got.
Catscan - will go inspect foot bottoms. :-)
Dark Brahma is a good guess Jenks - now that I have looked at pictures of dark brahma chicks, you could be right!
I'm not seeing 5 here: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGD/Houdan/HoudanChix.JPEG
What am I missing?
Toe sticking out back?
