Lingernot/Staynot Gladomeer ۞in Arizona! (#11)

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Such a sweet boy, that Billy, for sharing his toys with Lingernot. I know he is enjoying himself so much. Never a busy moment for that lucky gnome.

Eugene, OR

Well look at our boy!!! Hopping right to work and riding horses like he was born to it. And learning another history lesson. MissJestr you are a wonderful hostess! Most Excellant Adventure indeed. Love that hat^_^

Will wait for an update on the garden, sounds like a fun project. I really like the "whatnot wall". Can't wait to see what he's up to next.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I forgot to say I like the whatnot wall too. That tire looks like a huge sunflower to me...so fun!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I should have said, "Not a dull moment for our lucky gnome". Didn't read my post before sending it.

Happy little guy learning and doing so many things. Have fun!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Or not a gnome for that lucky moment.

I had to work late on Tuesday so when I got home, Lingernot and I did chores and had supper and curled on the couch to watch a bit of TV. I told him tomorrow I would make it up to him.

When I got home from work, I walked in and found this site awaiting me. Lingernot had gathered all the seeds I have gotten so far and was deciding where they should go. He says the rows of sunflowers should go against the fence line in the garden, and when they ripen I can give them to the chickens. The Hummingbird mix should go all over, it will allow a lot of plants for a bunch of hummingbirds. The sweet pea should go against the whatnot wall. The mint will go in different pots to be spread out in front of the house, and in the garden.

Of course the tomatos will go in the hay bale. Which he wanted me to enclose a picture of the tree behind the hay bale. He laughed so hard when he saw it and told me Christmas was over and should I take the bulbs down. I told him “I was reading somewhere if you hang red bulbs by where you were going to plant tomato’s, by the time the tomato’s are on the vine, the birds won’t bother them since they are used to seeing the bulbs anyway.” He thought that was a hoot.

We started on our chores, and we cleaned out the chick’s box. He again busted out in laughter, “Why do you have a convertible in there? Are you trying to teach the chicks to drive? They are on a ranch you know, a pickup would be better than a car. ”

“Well” I said, “I was told to put a tissue box in with them which would give them something to jump on, and I did not have one, so I was cleaning out Billy’s toys, the car does not work and it is the size of a tissue box, so I figured they would like it. Besides, Billy would never allow one of his trucks to be used, he plays with them all.”

Lingernot shook his head and said, “Well I never heard of such, you know you can find interesting things to recycle with.” I laughed and said, “sometimes you have to out of necessity, other times it just looks right”

“Come on Lingernot, lets go on the hike I promised the other day” I said, which he replyed, “Oh and maybe we will find treasures for the garden”

I snapped this picture in front of my house, it is called Eclectic Charm which I explained to him, it is a mix of little things to make one happy ranch. Here is a collection of some lawn art I have picked up along my hikes, except the cat condo where my outside cats hang out.

"Lingernot, I want to tell you, see that canyon over there? A band of wild mustangs live up there and every now and then, I get lucky enough to see them. They come down the hill for water, and they are a beautiful site. I am lucky enough to live out where I do, and be able to raise Billy in this fashion. I dont think I would trade it for the world" He said, "I can see how happy you are here, and although to most people may see a run down ranch, you see a most wonderful world to live in."

"Thank you Lingernot, that means the world to me"

Where he jumped up on the arena fence to see if he could see the mustangs. It was not to be, but I told him "Maybe this weekend we can go out and find them"

And with that said, the sun was setting so we went in the house for supper and a movie.

What a wonderful ranch! There are special little treasures everywhere for Lingernot to admire. I totally luv your christmasy tree. I would leave the balls on all year. I bet I can't do that. The balls would probably burst in the Chinooks sigh.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

It is an awesome place. I did not do much last year as it was warm when I moved in and my fear is snakes. I have been trying to do stuff this winter so I dont have to worry about snakes. I have found little treasures during my hikes, and they decorate the front of my house. Now that I have the garden, I have more room to find treasures. I really like that Western Union sign, it is a heavy one. It will go on the garden wall.

I bought the plastic balls at christmas time and that was Billy and mines tree. There were pine cones that had peanut butter and bird seed and popcorn strings, but the birds ate it all. I was watching the garden guy on a phoenix channel, and he said use christmas bulbs where you are going to plant your tomato's and when the tomato's are on the vine, the birds will be use to the color and think they are just the balls. I figured that may work out, I have nothing to loose.. Besides I too dahlianut, like the colors...

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sounds like a plan on the tomatoes! I love the old farm site. That shelf with the glass doors is a definate keeper. It was sweet, but a little pushy for Lingernot to rummage around in your seeds and tell you how to plant them. He may have some good ideas though. He has seen a lot of gardens in all of his gnome travels.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

and banana slugs and ducks and....^_^

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Thats what I was thinking I could get from his visit, his ideas. The difference here will be the lack of water in certain areas and our hot summer sun. I am not sure if some of the different flowers I got will tolerate it.

I am going to ask the owners if I can have the old shelf to make into a front porch gardening storage. If I find out its really old, I might strip it and stain it and put it in my house. We also found an old pot that will hold some mint plants, its kind of blue enammel with the bottem starting to rust out, and a peice of an old tractor that if turned upside down, will make a holder for the pot.

I really had a blast on my hike yesterday with Lingernot, I looked at the ranch in a whole different light... Plus the exersize did me good.

Lingernot is so lucky to be part of the early planning phases of a new garden! Lucky gnome!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, I think Lingernot isn't going to want to leave Arizona. Such a great place and so many things to see and do. He even keeps himself busy while you are at work. I would have like to have gone on the hike with the 2 of you, what neat treasures you find. I need a place like that to explore.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

LOL I already checked out MissJestr on the map in case I was coming close to Kingman on my travels. Not YET.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Travels? Hello? Are you coming to Des Moines?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I wish. I'm going to Denver in May and actually looked at how big of a hop, skip and jump it would be to go to IA. Unfortunately it's a leap :(

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh. Yeah. Well, I guess you're forgiven. Sort of.

The animals will cry. I'll have to break it to them gently.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I know (sniffle). To bad NE is in the way :( (Not that I wouldn't luv to go to NE too).

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

If you had been visiting Omaha, I could've driven there to visit you. It's only a couple of hours, if that.

Well, next time you'll just have to do better travel planning. Or I'll have to visit my old friend in Calgary. She is a runner, and I think possibly certifiable for running in Calgary winters, but that's OK, I would still visit her.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Oh Dahlianut, you would be most welcome and you too Claire... I am only about an hour as the crow flys from Las Vegas Nv.....

Samigal, I am the one who is most lucky, he is so cheery and his smile is awesome. Makes me not miss Billy so much.... There are plenty of places to hike, this summer I am riding up to the old town of Stockton, it is somewhere in the mountains and was an old mining town. I saw it on a 4 wheel trip once, I will try to find it again. There are also some springs that I want to ride to as well.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

One of these days I would love to visit AZ.

1) I want to see a road runner bird.
2) I want to see wild cactus growing.
3) I want to see some cool xeriscaped gardens, like maybe botanical gardens.

If I make it down there, I will let you know ahead of time. Maybe I could convince Kelly to try riding a horse again. He rode one once when he was in the army on leave in Spain (he was guarding the East German border at the time) and it scared the living poo out of him. I told him that horses are lovely but he is still scared.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

MissJestr we had to defer our trip to AZ and NM this winter to next cuz our dollar plunged but I was looking you up relative to Phoenix where we will fly into. I've driven the route from Las Vegas before on my way to Tennessee. You live in an awesomely beautiful area. I'm totally in luv with the painted desert. I feel a ROAD TRIP coming on. ps I am a really loser horse rider (blush) but I really like them.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

and tumbleweeds Claire. They are just so funky rollin along. I haven't seen a roadrunner YET.

Eugene, OR

I've seen both and they're both awesome to watch.

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

Whew, I just finally caught up on Lingernot's latest adventures...he's been a very busy gnome! You've got a wonderful place there MissJestr, and it's so great that Lingernot is helping you out. :-)

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

What a great visit Missjestr!!! It sounds like he had a wonderful time, as well as you and your family!!! Best wishes all. Love Jean
