Awww, I just love to think that moms try to go back to their homes.
Raising Aussie Osprey #9
Seeing the nest sure did bring a lump to my throat, as does the thought of that tough old girl trying to make her way home, if it turns out to be her.
My thanks go to Perry, the bander and his wife, Alma, for going through their records and sharing the information with me. Thanks also to Boyd and Jo for taking us to the nest and the tour of the island.
I don't know if ospreys do attempt to return to their formative grounds. The people who knew the people who saw the banded bird have been away. Denis may be able to point me in their direction so I can start investigating further.
The limestone incline to the right of the photo leads to where the nest can be viewed.
Oh gosh ...that just made me cry. It most certainly bring us full circle so to speak. Very moving to see the place she came from. It would be nice in a way to confirm that it was Old Ma who was found.
This is like one of those old Disney Animal movies they used to make when I was a kid....
Well said Nanny!
I can't help feeling like we were all part of her family and she was just trying to return home. I'm glad that you all were given the tour and a chance to find out more information. What a beautiful sight.
I know that was a bittersweet journey for you Margaret and thanks for taking us along with you. We also grew to love Old Ma and because of you her story is being told and she will not be forgotten.
How touching, Margaret. I too, have a lump in my throat.
Very nice, Margaret. Thanks for this thread; it's so beautiful and informative.
Thanks, Kiska. It really has been a life changing journey. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
What you have provided has been a once in a lifetime event and as it is with nature, there are highs and lows, but to know that she is finally at rest brings closure to this incredible story that you have so beautifuly laid out in photos along with your comments. I love the parting pic of 'Ole Ma Osprey'. Book, book book where is your book?
