Daily Pics Vol. 182

Melbourne, FL

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Pelle, my Mockingbirds love dried fruits, even raisins...I don't know how they know when I put them out, but I never see them visit the feeders when the dried fruits are missing.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

That' neat, Rose that you get to have a rare bird at your place, and be able to record this for them.
GP , love that Blue Bunting, cute little bird, and that mockingbird with the cranberry.
I spotted a Goldfinch today, they left here around the end of December. Unusual to see them here at this time of year.
Didn't have my Camera handy for a pic.

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

crazybirdlady - looks like a red breasted nuthatch to me also. they're so little!

Marlton, NJ

I'm not sure if it's just the shadows but the beak doesn't look very long to me.

Maybe Resin could figure it out. I hope it is a Nuthatch; their so sweet!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

evie, last year I tracked them here http://www.learner.org/jnorth/season/ while watchong for the hummers. Plus someone north of me, in Michigan I believe, posted they had a sighting around the end of April. I spotted a pair on 4-28-08. So I started putting out a little dish of jelly to get them coming and "BINGO"! I had at least 2 Oriole familes coming. It was soooo cool! I was like a little kid in a candy shop.

I have a nectar feeder for them, and a little dish of plain water, and they loved red grapes, as did a lot of the birds!! Spent a fortune in grapes. Mine were not really eating the oranges so I quite putting them out. I think the trick is to have it out before they get there or as soon as you spot them.

Yes we have a link to the Baltimore Orioles at that site in our Sticky so we'll have to keep an eye out for them along with the hummingbirds,

Thanks for the grapes tip nanny!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Nice ones Burn and Meth!!

Nanny...that pic sure brings back the memories. I checked back and the Baltimore's showed up here on April 24th and the Orchard's were a few days earlier. Geez..that is 2 months away, I can't wait that long!!

Marlton, NJ

Wow thats almost the exact date I saw my first Hummingbird (a scout) last year.

C'Mon April!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I had a dream last night I saw three hummers! I'm telling you, I'm really ready for spring!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I had a dream about a giant flying turtle and its baby hanging on to its tail. I'm not sure what I'm ready for!

I already had a hummer hanging out in my yard at this time last year, and I believe she was already chasing away other hummers. This year, not a one. I predict the hummers will come later than usual. On the bright side, my lady banks rose started blooming today and it doesn't usually get going until March.

This White-winged Dove is from a couple of days ago. It's just to dark and rainy for pics.

Yep, Red-breasted Nuthatch; the bill looks short because the blurring has made the tip invisible.

My blue jays here love cheerios. When I clean up after my 2 year old I throw them out on the deck within seconds you hear the bluejay call and see him(her) swoop in to get them.

Marlton, NJ

Nice pics everyone!

Thanks Resin.

That's a cute Lighthouse GM!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I had the perfect opportunity to get a picture of this cardinal... but between the snow and it's getting dark already... this is the best I could get

I was able to open my bathroom window and just clicked away for 10 mins... he didn't move

thank you... I even tried going downstairs and taking some from my slider door... he just sat there but too many branches in the way down there

Nice pic!!

Seward, AK(Zone 7b)

Resin......I'm inclined to disagree with your ID of crazybirdlady51s' nuthatch. All Red Breasted Nuthatches, including females and juvies, have a very distinct black line through the eye and white eyebrow. Her nuthatch could possibly be some color phase of a Brown or Brown-headed Nuthatch.

Nice pictures folks.

Here is a White Breasted Nuthatch posing.

Great looking Cardinal Onewish.
Wish the nuthatches would come to my feeders, maybe one day.

Looked out the window today, and there on the feeder, was a white headed Common Redpoll. Lots of bird seem to have discoloration lately. Had a Chickadee in late fall and a purple finch, last summer. And some posted quite a few on here.
Here's my white headed Redpoll.

Really nice photos, everyone .....

I thought this article may be of interest to the birding community, i.e. " Bird Suspected to Be Extinct Photographed for First Time ... Then Eaten"

South Hamilton, MA

How horrid! Why didn't the photographers buy it? If they had enough knowlege for a photo, they could have saved it. Maybe they were just taking pictures & were ignorant too.

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

I am just getting the same birds in my yard. Over and over.
