Mourning Doves are year round residents here.
Daily Pics Vol. 182

Often, beetle larvae.

Love the Quail and Turkey Vulture.
My computer has been down since last night and had visions of spending big bucks for a new one but it was a problem with the server!!
It is a terrible thing to be disconnected!!
Here is a shot of the tail-less BlueJay that has been hanging around for quite awhile. It looks like the new feathers are coming in!
here's another video. let me know if you like or not (if not I'll not post).
again, not best of quality (google makes it worse by making it bigger), but you listen to a bunch of crows while watching a chickadee munch on sunflower seeds, with an appearance by a red squirrel.

Rose, the Blue Jay had better be careful stuffing all of those peanuts into his mouth. Since he lost his tail, he has nothing for ballast and may be aeronomically-challenged!! LOL
GG
Evie...I love seeing and hearing your videos so please continue to post them. You have a wonderful set up for the birds and squirrels...looks like heaven! You really get a lot of action too!! Those Crows crack me up on the video along with the squirrel!
Here are some pics from the brush pile yesterday...I must have been in a zombie state since I don't even remember taking them! I really must venture out more often! LOL!
Nice one Bsharf!
Song Sparrow
That Song Sparrow is such a beautiful photo. The color just pops out.
Do you think he knows?
Hee...boojum!! He probably does as he is becoming more shy of the general public!! LOL!
Wow Rose that's really amazing!
Wonderful pics everyone!
that 3:49 PM song sparrow shot looks like it belongs on an official website or book!!
and thanks for the feedback, Rose. as I plant more and more shrubs, I hope to lure some of the birds away from the forest (like orioles, and who knows what else is out there that I never see!). we'll see how it goes.
Evie do you put oranges and grape jelly out for the Orioles? I learned about that from this forum and had tons of Orioles eating in the yard. It was fantastic while it lasted last Spring.
GP...thanks..so nice of you to say that. I always look forward to your colorful pics , they are a breath of fresh air with the green leaves and sunshine!! Thanks for the Bunting...I am getting so excited to see them again. This year I hope to see a Painted one!
Here is a lousy pic of an American Goldfinch but this one has the most black I have seen on the head so far. A lot of them are really getting yellow and can't wait for the transformation!
That Dickcissel seems to be getting more yellow too...gorgeous!
I need to try some dried cranberries this year.
I would like to try dried fruits again but I didn't have any luck with them last year.
I'll give the cranberries a try.
Rose - I haven't tried because I didn't know we had any around! I saw one on that back wall of trees in summer and oriole was the only thing I could come up with. Will have to try the fruit this year!!
gardenpom - I LOVE the shot of the hawk diving, AND of the mockingbird with the cranberry on its way down. So lucky to get that shot!
Evie..when you see your first one put out the orange halves and grape jelly and sit back and enjoy the show!
I have been putting raisins out and the Bluebirds and Mockingbird love them. I soak them in water to soften and then chop them up. I also chop up old grapes and they were all eaten also.
Once again I'm ready to go stay at Rose's Bird, Bed and Breakfast! Rose, has anyone from Audubon or anywhere contacted you about the Mr. D?
GP, just love your feeders and cute mockingbird.
You are always welcome Marna..just be sure to bring your boots and camo gear! I had the Missouri Audubon contact me so they could put the little fella on the rare bird alert list. They asked me to let them know the last date I see him...he's still around and they spend the summer here so I will let them know when he leaves the farm...boo-hoo...
I thought maybe they'd come trap, band and release him. Would be interesting to see if he stays all winter.
