Daily Pics Vol. 182

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Well the last thread was loaded with some great pics of our bird friends and here is a link so you can take a look in case you missed any http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/952319/#new .

The weather hasn't been the greatest lately for taking pictures so I am having to use some from earlier this month. I hope I haven't posted any of them before...if I can't remember, maybe you won't either!

Last year we had House Finches all winter but this year only a few...here is a male that showed up briefly.

Here is a White-crowned Sparrow..we had many of these last winter and this winter also. They sing all day long and it is wonderful to hear. In the spring when they leave their song will be very missed.

Eastern Bluebirds are my favorite and here is a handsome male. They always make me laugh when they look straight at you...I doubt they are as mad as they look!

Our resident Carolina Wren took a bath yesterday and put on a show trying to get dryed off. They have so much personality!

This shot was taken through the kitchen window.

Last one and I'm off to get my beauty rest...though I don't think it will help! LOL!

This is another window shot and a bad one at that but I laugh everytime I look at it. The Tufted Titmouse continues to drive me nuts trying to get a good shot.

Your little Titmouse sound like my Chickadee. Have to be quick on the click, to get a pic. Those white throat Sparrow should be showing up here in April, can't wait to see them.
Thanks for starting the new thread Rose. Have a rejuvenating sleep.

From yesterday during our blizzard.

Beautiful shots Rose! The Titmouse is a challenging bird but that ones is cute.

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Aw the poor litle Redpoles burn!

Melbourne, FL

Rose, I especially love your White-crowned Sparrow pic.....one bird I would love to see in my yard is a sparrow (any kind)....they live not far from here at the Wal-Mart garden center (where they are not wanted), but never see them in my yard (where they are wanted).

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanls Rose for the new thread. I love your White-crowned Sparrow too. I have yet to one this year. We have have not had near as many House Finch either.

You gotta love the titmouse. They look so funny when you get them straight on like that!

Burn, you and all your birds keep warm & safe!

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

We have house finches stay the winter and sing their hearts out the rest of the year.

Gary, congrats on getting one of your excellent redpoll pics on the gallery at the bird count! I don't know if anyone else is listed there, but if you are congrats and if not, you should be! We have the best bird pics right here!

I tried and tried to get a good pic of this Orange-crowned warbler for the bird count, but the weather has been just awful. I couldn't even do a proper count b/c I couldn't tell what I was looking at. Then when the sun finally came out, I ended up with bleached out pics!

hey all - I guess it is not just us that have noticed the increase of pine siskins. I was thinking just this morning how I usually have a ton of goldfinches, but this year I insted have a ton of pine siskins.

Love the hawk shots Pelle.

Cute sparrow Nanny. No, you cannot steal that quail--besides, where in the heck would you put it with all the different varieties of birds you already have. LOL

Duc, that Hummingbird is so pretty--makes me thing of Summer!! Though, we don't have that variety here.

Elphaba, great Red-winged blackbird shot. Saw some here, but cannot get a decent picture of them.

Here are a few of the American Goldfinches! They are like this all day at all the feeders...!

Thumbnail by dellrose
Seward, AK(Zone 7b)

dellrose......Your mass of Goldfinches looks like my mass of Pine Siskins and Redpolls.

I swear these guys would crawl right up my pant-legs if I let them. They walk right into my house if I forget to close the door.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I would be happy to trade some Goldfinches for some Redpolls and Siskins! That is a cool shot and aww is right!!

Here is one small area of the dead tree showing one lone Pine Siskin, a pair of Eastern Bluebirds and the rest are Goldfinches!

THAT is a COOL shot!!

wow such incredible pics! How much seed are you guys going through?

Seward, AK(Zone 7b)

I go through 4 - 6 hundred pounds of sunflower seed and about 50 pounds of thistle seed every winter. My bird feeding obsession has become a very expensive hobby, but it helps save what little sanity I have left. lol

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I go through over 150 pounds or more a week. I feed thistle, chopped corn, black oil sunflower seeds, sunflower hearts and other types of
mixed seeds and nuts. So far this winter I have fed about 60,000 mealworms! Last year I was feeding 50 pounds of sunflower seeds a day...this year there is more natural food and less birds!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Hmmmm.....Up untill the change in food last week, I was feeding around 20 Lbs. of Boss a week. 6-8 lbs of Safflower a week. 5 lbs. of peanut pieces a week. 7 lbs. of mixed tree nuts over 2 weeks. 4-5 corn cobs a week. Plus suet, but that last a bit. Thistle about 14 lbs. over the last 3 months. The Goldfinch eat more BOSS than thistle!

I only put so much out a day and that is it. I would refill on the very few really bad and extremely cold days that we had.

But I am not using near as much the last 2 weeks. . In fact I think I will only need nuts next week.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Wowee, you all are feeding lots. I though I was going through BOSS fast.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

The birds are lucky to have all that food.

Great pictures everyone.

A female Calif. Quail loves to visit our feeder each day.
