A Black-billed Magpie with snow crystals on it's bill. On stormy days, the Magpies can haul off, and hide a cup of cat food in a few minutes.
DAILY PICS VOL. 181
Absolute gorgeous pics Gary!
The Magpie is a Stunner!
Thanks so much for starting the new thread!
Nice Gary!
Great shots, Gary. I, too, like the Black-billed Magpie. Hope the weather starts improving for you. Bad weather sure makes the winter seem longer.
I’ve been thinking about the recent information on birds wintering farther north. The American Robin is Michigan’s State bird. When I was growing up in Michigan, the Robin was considered the first sign of spring. Children were told, to make a wish when they saw the first Robin of spring, and the wish would come true.
How, I’m seeing American Robins wintering over in Anchorage, Alaska.
Linthicum, I’m going to make the winter seem shorter, by heading due south, and spend the next two weeks on Oahu Island, Hawaii.
Add me to love the Black-billed Magpie list...what a beautiful bird!
Nice MB shot Pelle...not nice here either, cold and windy...possible snow!
Have a wonderful time there Gary!
Nice Downy Marna!
I just saw a Red-winged Blackbird in the yard! First I've seen in a while now.

Wonderful start to this new thread Gary! Have a wonderful time in Hawaii and bring us lots of pics back!
I think I only have the Magpie and Downy Woodpecker of all those mentioned today. No birds have returned from the south that I have seen, so for the weekends list I won't have many. Still too cold and too much snow.
Donna
Wow,,,,,,,,,,,,, great shot of the Magpie Grasmussen,,,,,,,,I seem to always have problems with birds that are black in color,,,,,,,with no detail,,,but you did not have that problem here,,,,,,,Great capture,,,,,I also like the Mockingbird,,,,,Roy
I just spent an hour pulling all this snow down with a 15 foot snow rake because it kept plopping down right on top of my poor little birds. I rescued four of them, but don't know how many got caught under the snow that I didn't find. My arthritis is killing me, but at least the birds are safe now.
Ava
Beautiful start Gary...great shots and I envy that one of the Magpie!
Pelle..Lovely Mockingbird and I am happy that the birds are liking your new bird bath.
Nice Downy Mrs. Ed! I have noticed those Downy's can adapt to any feeder around!
Ava..Wow, I love those bird in hand pics, what a thrill that would be. Good grief you have a lot of snow!
See what I saw at the brush pile today...Mr. Dickcissel!
Nice pics ava!! That is a lot of snow!
Rose, Very pretty pics of those 2 handsome birds!
Love the Goldeneye's Marna!
Oh that's so great! Wonderful pics all! I can hear that mallard by the goldeneyes! And yet another dickcissel!! And isn't that Harris' sparrow a sweetie!?
Sorry Ava, I have to correct you. It is a Glaucous-winged Gull. The tip of the wings are black on a Herring Gull.
Good grief you have a lot of snow!

Thanks for the new thread Gary. I agree with everyone else, the Magpie is just gorgeous. I'm surprise, your just now, getting the Redpolls.
Wishing you a nice warmmmmmmm trip.
That bird bath is getting popular Pelle.
Rose, now I want a brush pile and a field. You get such a variety of bird there.
Great shots of the Goldeneye Ducks Mrs Ed.
Ava, I like Oscar.
Evening Grosbeak
Thanks Gary. I do have trouble ID'ing gulls. There are so many similar species, not to mention several color phases of each. I've spent most of my life working on the water and one would think I would know my gulls better by now, but no.
Cute little typo there, btw. Hahahaaa.
Thank you nanny. Kind of a funny typo though.
I'm sure glad to see pictures of the birds the rest of you have. Sure not many kinds here yet.
I am going to go start counting, quail, Goldfinches, sparrows for the Bird Count, it is almost daylight.
Donna
Very nice pics everyone!
I decided to put the platform feeder back out with peanuts in the shell inside.
Of course within 15 minutes that brought Common Grackles around but I'm hoping the Blue Jays will come around soon as I haven't seen hardly any since taking it down.
This isn't a good shot but the Northern Cardinals also love the peanuts.
Doesn't it look funny?
