Coyote Scare

From what I've read -- NO PERSONAL EXPERIENCE! -- mules, donkeys, burros and the like, as well as llamas, are good guard animals. I got a Popular Farming book at TSC on Donkeys and they're supposedly really good.

I am just afraid the donkey will stomp the chickens as well.

That I don't know. Might depend on the donkey. Like marriage -- you don't know until it's too late...

LOL now that is the truth. I would think that the chickens would get out of their way, except for when it was time to eat. Then it is a free for all unless you could separate them. I am just guessing.

My HORSE gets along well with the chickens. Whether that translates into anything I don't know...

Coyotes have been around longer then man, if that tells you anything. They are very smart and one donkey is not much help. The pack will just send in one to distract the donkey, then the pack goes for the dinner. We live in the piney woods of east Texas and there are packs everywhere. I breed peafowl and use chickens to hatch the peafowl eggs and the chickens free range. We have the Great Pyrenees and I never loose anything to coyotes, just to drop off dogs. I have lost close to $6,000. in birds to dogs that have been dropped off in front of our home. We have had problems getting a male dog to make it to adult hood. Now that Beorn has made it to full size, we now have no problems with stray dogs. We have dairys all around us and our neighbors just love our dogs. No one has lost a calf to coyotes in years. We have no children at the house so guns are always loaded but never need them. These dogs just live to run down coyotes. Pups as young a four months will run with the big dogs when the sun goes down and the chase is on. Can you see a coyote standing up to this guy.

Oh he is a beauty. I have a make and female and the funniest thing the other night we went out to the pond and the 2 GP's were laying down with the 20 ducks all around them. Our dogs run off all the drop offs also. Our dogs had the goats, then we sold them all off then they had to 2 ponies and we gave them away now they have the ducks and chickens. When a repair guy comes out they call from the drive way announcing their arrival as the dogs are looking thru their van or truck window.

I suspect if it weren't for young ladies thinking they MUST have A WEDDING, a lot less of this marrying thing would go on!

Gorgeous dog, kenboy! Looks like a real sweetie, too -- but not one a bad guy would want to mess with.
