hi all
where do you put the temp in the bator for you can see it and not have to open it up all the time
elle
Elle, do you have a window in your bator? I have two windows so I position it right under that so I can lean over and see in. Sometimes I need a flashlight when the lighting isnt so good.
Marcia, I am so sorry about your little girl hen. It is so sad!! How long do they live normally? My kids want to get some of them. We had a friend mention getting us eggs once but I dont think the person she was getting them from raises them anymore. Thats okay for now anyway. We just hatched eggs (Silkies and Showgirls) They are still pretty little. The silver quail is pretty too. Those eggs in the picture are so dark. Is that what they all look like? Neat!
Well, they are gone now. If they come back we will see what will happen. you are right, STRAYs are a nuisance no matter what.
I just do not understand how people can say they love their pets then let them bother others or roam on a highway. It gets to be like its a dump zone. People see a farm, they got animals too they do not want and dump them.
When AC said take it to a sale, I though you got to be kidding?
I do not mind the wild life animals, thats one thing, but domestics at large...no. NOT WELCOME. The dang things pull my plant labels out.. make a mess and go into things they do not belong.
When we first moved here we had a lot of trouble with people coming here thinking our place was the vets. Our homes were the same color and such and I got alot of people bringing in their sick critters here like I needed that. I finally ended up posting a sign NO DOGS. Like people read anyway, NOT. But it did detour most sane people. I mean, come on now, if you get the right directions to get there, that would have been good too. Dont just say its the yellow house about so many miles.. They would always show up at dinner time too.. so frustrating.. LOL!
Well, enough of that, we got 10 eggs today. Seems to be picking up.
hi all
i getting ready to try again
elle
Good luck!!!!!
Best wishes elle!!! I know your hatch will be great!
It was not Animal control it was the city Ordinances that said I could not keep them.
Blossombuddy, no one knows who owns them? Do you have animal control officers? Some areas do some don't. If you do I would give them a call to prevent an accident. I sure hope someone claims them before they get hurt.

Marcia, I am sorry that you cant have your two hens. Its not like they crow. I know, rules are rules. Its still sad. I like your little quail. I have a small hen that looks like that but she has feathered legs. LOL How many quail do you have?

If you would like some Button Quail eggs Garrie Landry in FRANKLIN, LA 70538
sells them. If you are interested send me a email I will send you more information OK
Animal Control here is strickly dogs and will not take any cat unless the cat has biten or scratched someone. That is all the animals they do. They do not do ducks or other livestock.
The sheriff cannot take them and if someone hits them it is a mess if someone gets hurt and right now with them at large, the cops cannot go door to door. So whomever is owning them is not boning up to it and they give a rats butt if someone gets hurt. Likewise if someone just plain dumped them. Dont know so much if the cops will go door to door in the event they get hit.
When I called the sheriff, they came out, saw them and well, its all they can do. At this time, if I can catch them they told me what to do with them.. the trick though is...catching them. Dang the stupid people who had them.. Lets just pray no one gets hurt.
The ducks are a nuisance and also candidates for a hungry coyote,
Thank you Marcia, I will talk to DH and see what he says. I am grounded from using the incubator for now. hehehe

They lay every 2 days.
I don't do any thing with the eggs I tried to sell them but no one wanted them. There are others that sell the eggs and the young chicks I thought I could earn some money that way but was not successful. I have left them with the pair but they didn't hatch them out.
Since I can't sell them I don't want to get to many so I don't hatch them out either.
A Button Quail called Red breasted male
That looks like a robbin! Cool! I see them for sale on some sights. Too bad you couldnt make some money doing it. At least pay for their food. Ya know? Well, they are certainly pretty. :)
Quail eggs are good pickled. You can make lots of different tastes by adding things to the vinegar mix. They sell good.

HAVE YOU TRIED THEM?
I'm not a pickled egg fan myself but my DH,DS and DFIL eat all they can get!
Well looks like someone took care of the nuisances. Some guy with a cane herded them off and they are gone from my territory.. well that is hopefully. If I find out who the owner is they are gonna get billed for them eating my flowers. Jeez, they seemed to have a thing for some of my landscaping.
I had a nice chat with a gal from the EPA today! WOW! She is trying to help this neighborhood. There are some really big concerns throughout and most everyone is testy about the flooding. I am glad she showed up because we are always willing to try do things better.
Well that is good news! You dont know the man huh? Well, at least they are gone.
Well, who ever he was, I am glad they got rid of them for me. I suspect though if they come back.. well I will then know whose they are.
My few hens are laying and I got too many eggs today so I am giving them to a friend.
I dont get enough to sell for any business. Never have and I am not doing hatching eggs. I have a friend however who is. So I refer people to her. I used to have her chickens here.
So ok, what kind of crafts is anyone making with spent egg cartons?
hi all
how do you blow egg
how do you make cataplillar
it raining to day
need to go to work
happy day to all
elle
I have blown a few eggs in the past and did it by poking a small hole in both inds of the egg and actually blowing the contents out of the shell by blowing through one of the holes. But I saw a lady on a craft show who had a small collapsible bottle with a tube on it that you insert into the same hole the contents come out of. You pump the little bottle and air goes through the tube into the egg and the contents come out the same hole. I don't have a clue as to where you'd buy such a gadget. I don't have time for crafts anymore.
Just make sure you scramble the egg yolk inside the egg with the needle before you try to blow it out or you will pass out trying. Its really hard to blow out if you dont scramble it well. ;)
Here is a video of some of the fun things you can make with egg cartons. Tulips, and baskets, catipillers and more! FUN!
Oh man, where can you get that pump thinge! Everytime I blow eggs I get sinus trouble LOL!!! That blue bird is adorable. Well I have a pile of egg cartons. I used to know of some cute patterns and stuff and well, needless to say lost the information so that was why I was asking.
hi
where is the video

elle

Well the bad news is is the qwaacks are back.
Topping that there are two stray cats who are preganant roaming around like the world needs more strays. Few years backwe had distemper showing up in the wildlife, so you know dang well its in the strays.
A friend of mine got bite by a cat and I tell you what, they are the filthiest mouthed animals to get bit by. He had an infection and holy cow.
I swear ya live rural and people think your a pet dumping ground. No regard for the animal they dump and no regard for the people they dump on. See more and more of it everyday. People cant keep their pets because they lost a job or something and jeez.
I love my pets..I leash mine or fence them in. They do not go out on the highway and so stay by my side because they are tied or confined. I also paddlock my roofed kennel too.
Thats too bad. I was hoping it was problem solved. Sorry.... :(
I just think it is so sad that people dump animals or allow for them to stray.
The ducks were out in my pasture and well, a couple of the mares went after them striking at them. It looks like maybe the wings might be clipped on them. They get on the road and well, I have seen cars fly 90 here and well sad to say... something is destined to get them. I cant stop the horses and I cant stop a coyote. I dont know who that guy was with the cane, for all I know maybe he stopped on the road and was just a good Joe trying to herd them where he thought they might go. Who knows what his game was.
Well I just hope the owner bones up and does the right thing. I checked my flowers and it seems like they had a taste for the daylilies.. no big deal.
hi all
sorry to hear that they are back
we are lucky here
it is raing here

elle

Been averaging over a half dozen eggs.
Looks like we will be getting another rooster.... Hope he does not fight with Pretty Boy. If he does, then another friend is going to have to take him. He is being too hard on the hens he is with now and so Bec is giving him up.
Need to get out and do some spring cleaning. We are wet.
Wet here too. For the last 2 days and likely 3 more. But I am going to plant in the rain today. Have some stuff that has to go out.
Well, I just got back from the coop.. no eggs yet this morning so I am going to go pick flowers in the rain and do some "dribble" chores!
Will post here again when the new roo comes.
You know Blossom... you can sell those egg cartons on ebay. Lots of people do it.. some chicken people are desperate for cartons.
You are right I could post them on eBay, so what am I bid for a 12 pack of used once egg cartons there?
I have a bunch and they would be like no choice on size or color, just a carton in a pack of twelve... hmmm I wonder what a fair price is on them and what the shipping would be? They would have to go in a large box.. like that hatbox size for priority mailing...They are clean and all.. just ones from people that I collected the cartons for to ship my hatching eggs in.
Any clue? Course if someone here wants them, I could take a Paypal for them...hint hint!
Send me a D-mail if interested.
If you are curious as to the price of anything.. just go shop for it.. then you can price it a little lower and get them out of the way! :)
Just did and just listed them.. 7 day sale...opening bid $.99 on a buy it now $1.75.. the shipping is $7.95.....LOL! Thanks for the tip!
