We were out at the farmers market today and my SO was looking at some Herbs and called me saying "look" chocolate basil....well, not, and he's lucky he didn't end up wearing the pot of cinnamon basil, cause it wasn't !

Eunice, MO(Zone 5b)

Why isn't he wearing the pot of cinnamon basil. Are you getting soft?

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Kathy,
he is actually WONDERFUL. He had to take some vacation time this last week or he would lose so he's been here helping me get beds cleaned out and redone. Working in cute behind off............. and he never says' you don't need another plant...seeds sometimes yes cause I have more now than I'll probably get sowed, but he really doesn't put up much of a fuss about it. Even when he can't find the dining room table cause I have my laptop on it w/ a tub of seeds I'm digging thru to decide which ones I'm going to start this week.

Mrs_Ed..You may be right.........but does Vor really think that Alabama is that far away that I won't come and decimate the place looking for the chocolate basil? And NO rebuttal post yet.......??????????????????????/

POTTSBORO, TX(Zone 7b)

Oops,

Nonstick baking spray with flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup packed fresh basil leaves (plus addition leaves for garnish)
5 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (not Dutch process)
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 and 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup hot water
1 recipe chocolate sour cream, frosting (below)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9-inch round cake pan with nonstick baking spray with flour.

Place the sugar and basil in a food processor. Process until basil is chopped fine and uniformly green in color (it will look slightly wet).

Gradually add flour to bowl, stirring just until blended (do not overstir). Add hot water to mixture, stirring just until blended. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake 22-25 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes on a wire rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut into squares. Cool completely, Prepare sour cream frosting. Spread over cake and garnish with basil leaves, if desired. Makes 9 servings (serving size: 1 wedge).

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

V, I just gassed up the car and I and the black (not chocolate) lab are comin' for ya! Course it may take a while since I will need to need to stop at every nursery and ask about basil. LOL

Still, I will eventually get there. And then what mjsponies said -------- If you are not careful I may leave the evil Lucy aka Lucyfur with you. She is also known as destructodog and destroyer of worlds. Be afraid, be very very afraid ------------ :^)

Dear Santa,

I have been a good girl. However, there is a very naughty boy in Ozark. Please leave me some chocolate basil and give Vort a lump of coal.

Love,

...and a bag of switches!!!!

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Well guys, I found this miricle chocolate basil thread today and was highly intertained. I think i was one of the people who wrote the MBG about chocolate basil.
I have another theory about the mystery of the appearance and disappearance of CB. I know you've heard the song about Marie Lavoe, The Louisanna swamp witch. When she made another man done gone, She turned him into a chocolate basil plant. And you can only find it in a swamp in LA. Of course you have to fight the Foggy Bottoms monster to get to it. Big Red from ARK knows this story.
For VORTREKER might remember the chorus of Marie Lavoe is ANOTHER MAN DONE GONE. So stay out of them swamps. No matter what kind of dog ya got.LOL!!!
Really tho, i beleive there is a chocolate basil out there someplace.
Good to see you guys again.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Looks like the first person to find and posses the chocolate basil will be able to swap pieces of it for most anything!!!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

ROFLMOL!!!!!!!!
Vort HAS been holding out. Sent me some seeds for Giant Fennel and must have gotten confused. Cause this was in the envelop too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Either that or Big Foot was tired of getting bad mouthed and forced him into it.
only problem was it was EMPTY!
edited to add....the giant fennel was there....but no seeds for CB!
