Yes, Fairchild told me that they ordered it for the chocolate festival but it did not come in (so she changed her answer about the ad!) They gave me their supplier, I've contacted them NO word yet.
Chocolate Basil? The search continues...
mjsponies---I looked around closer and Big Foot left one little chocolate basil plant and I am sending it to you
Potagere,
Unfortunately no Basil in the stable.
But Mrs. Ed is on the trail!!!
With such super sleuths I have great confidence it will be found.
Course...Vortreker did say Big Foot left on little plant and was sending to me.........
ummm, I think he said he was sending you a big foot.
So...we're taking one step forward...two steps back on the great quest for the fabled chocolate basil?
What??? You're gonna put Vortrekker out with the rest of the turkeys?
Hey....I put food out there.....and the gators have all been removed..........
ohhh, and that's frost...and 22 degrees........in SUNNY Central Florida...........~-:

I wish I were a poet. I feel inadequate...no poetry, no chocolate basil.
I wish I were a poet, too!
you are a poet and you don't knowit…
(you all MUST know the rest of this)
Truth be told, I think that the country most likely to have this herb would be FRANCE, don't you? Basil du chocolat
I think it has to be Italy!
but chocolate is sooo much more France. and Herbs! Herbs du candy.
Ah! I can tell we are not getting anywhere!
Just finished today's article on Chocolate Gardens and wondered why Chocolate Flower Farms does not have this! If it exists!
'zactly.
Cause they are keeping it all to themselves.
Of course it exists!
I'm sorry!!!
Just a passing quiver of doubt!
There is no way all of us can be wrong! It is out there somewhere.
haha. I don't think so either, honestly. I think we are going to find out that it was out there and failed as a plant that could be dependably produced. but that's just my hunch.
I want a tomato basil. That would be awesome. I could make soup without having to use fresh tomatoes.
I found a guy who posted at yahoo that his brother grows basil in his green house. He listed the varieties and chocolate was among them. I emailed him and his brother does not remember where he got it but he claims he grew it from seed. I am waiting to hear whether he would be willing to maybe sell some starts.
kathy......we will all be at your mercy if you find this..

Hmmm, I live in MO too. Me and the beastie Lucille (aka Lunatic) will have to make a midnight raid ----------
I wonder, Is there a "most famous ( or infamous?!) Thread Forum? Surely this one would be on there.
kathy65468 - you must have emailed the same guy I did!!! LOL
kathy65468 - you must have emailed the same guy I did!!! LOL
I'm keeping a log of everywhere we've tried, it keeps getting longer and longer and longer…
Could you, would you
Post it?
Just so those of us serious/crazy enough to take wild shots at this know where the rest of us have been?
And, I (and I am sure the rest of us) am dying to know [you never told us] : WHO was Fairchild Gardens' mysterious supplier, why did they not supply, and what did they tell you?
It will be part of the article so I don't want to do it exactly the same here… Let me catch up with it and I'll post it later.

Selfish protection of copyright, Mrs_Ed!!!
That list won't hurt your article, which, you know, we are all going to read, no matter what.
I sent the following email to KingsFoliage:
"I have been informed by Mr Carl Lewis, Director of the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens, that they had dealt with you to supply "Chocolate Basil"plants for their January "Chocolate Festival" but that, for some reason, you were unable to supply these plants.
I have searched for this plant for many years. Do you have it? Have you ever had it? Can you supply me with the plant or its seeds?"
So I lied. So what?
We'll see.
Potagere,
ya gotta do what ya gotta do............;-)
Exactly. It's good to discover another DGer without a conscience.
Mrs_Ed is protecting DG's copyright and not breaking her contract by providing a verbatim pre-print. :-)
Love the wording of that email!
Dude, I'll post the list but not in the same form.
But my paid job is getting in the way, grrrrr.
I was asking for a "list of contacts"
That's like "a verbatim pre-print"
No wonder the bank failure started in Ameerica!
Legalese piled on legalese.
So much for us working together as friends.
Seventeen horses rode out that night
in quest of an herb that could save the maid.
Fifteen wasted their time and sweat,
Foolishly stumbling on trails well researched
Ones where their
Well, you can see that I was about to take this all in the same spirit that we appear to have had before.
But I can see that the same spirit does not apply.
DG pays, what, US$50 for an article.
Judas got 30 pieces of silver.
Should I ever find it, all bets are now off.
Excuse me? I think we got our wires crossed. I was just explaining why Marna needed to separate that list from the text of her article before she could print it. I'm sorry you misinterpreted my meaning and my tone.
Kids, Kids, Kids.
Yes, I can't post the same information as an article or even say much more about the article because of my contract.
BUT, the real problem lies in the fact that the list is not complete and would need some work to be merely a list. You'll understand when the final work is out. Rest assured that this list of who we've contacted will be posted, but I'm swamped today with some silly logo design work.
Let the cooperative rhyming spirit return oh great detectives!
I have no idea why, for (US) copyright purposes, a "part": of an article (especially a list of sources) should need to be "obscured"
I've been an editor/publisher of articles dealing with international copyright issues for at least the last 12 years.
I guess I just missed your point.
So far as I know, a short extract does not violate copyright
Is DG (of which you suddenly appear to be a spokesperson) so demanding of (c) that it gets rights to anything we write/say/think/discover because we did it on DG? I think not.
Otherwise, maybe we better rethink being on DG, huh?
I think we might profit from discussing,
Or maybe not.
Whattaya think critter?
I don't think there's anything to discuss... I understand it's standard for publications to have contract clauses like that, partly so an upcoming article doesn't get "scooped" I think. It's just the articles that are under that limitation, not "anything we write/say/think/discover" here. If you have concerns about this, please take them up with admin.
Marna has said she'll update the list and share it here as soon as she gets a chance, so this seems like a non-issue to me. I'm sorry it doesn't seem that way to you, but I hope you'll let it go so we can all continue with the Quest for Chocolate Basil.
