Thanks, fancy. I don't really know; so I'll have to watch it this spring. I guess it's likely A or B because I rarely do anything to it.

Who has clematis?
Are there any special places online that are good to order clematis from in Canada?
Garden Import usually has a nice selection. So far I get all mine locally.
fancyvan I am the same way....actually I have never purchased any plants online....I always buy from around here. However I have wanted Betty Corning for a few years now and I have never seen this one around here....so I was trying to convince myself to maybe purchase one online....still not sure yet. Thanks fancyvan!
I got Betty Corning last year from a small local nursery -the owners are very knowledgeable about clematis and usually have some interesting things.
I occasionally purchase plants on line now as it is often the only way to get some special plants like some of the heucheras and hostas. But there are people in Canada on those forums who can recommend good sources and mostly I have had good luck.
This is Joe Zary last year-it is mixed with Lemon Chimes but they did not flower together which was disappointing.
That is a GORGEOUS clematis fancyvan....I love the way it flowers and colour!!! I have never heard of that one......it is beautiful!!! Too bad the two that planted together didn't bloom the way you would have liked....either way I think it is still gorgeous on its own....
How did your Betty Corning do for you last year...did you see some blooms?
BC was new last year but it did have some blooms on it. Actually I need to move it because I got another one almost similar in color right beside it
We had a lady here, now unfortunately deceased, who was a clematis expert and had 70-80 clematis in her yard. We did workshops there and she had a map of everything in her garden and a lits too and so I am just picking things off her list.
Correction: Lemon Bells not Lemon Chimes.
This is Ernest Markham
Ahhh another great shot!
planted six baby ones last year cant wait to see them bloom this summer
moved 18 months ago so starting again lol
it took 10 years to get my last garden to what I considered finished that property was
66 by 140 now I have 2.5 acres lol dont think it will ever be finished
but I am going to give one hell of a try before I die hahahahha
This is such a great thread!
I just moved into this house last summer, and the previous owner for some reason hated clematis so I've planted two of them so far, multi-blue and Jan Fopma. Multi blue is a group 2, and had 3 or 4 flowers. Jan Fopma is a cultivar, pruning group 3, and it had two lovely little flowers. I protected them for the winter but who knows if they'll come back this spring. Here's little Jan Fopma's first flower. Once it opens wider, the flower's about 2" wide. If they do come back, I just can't wait for the show they'll put on.
In my previous house I had a Comtesse de Bouchaud, a Sweet Autumn Clematis and a Polish Spirit - only three because it was a townhouse and I wasn't really supposed to plant anything.
I get emails from a local clematis expert who's having clematis sales this spring and I just can't wait to cover my fences here.
Christine
we installed a chain link fence around the pool we installed last summer and I planted clematis to give me privacy from the driveway so I hope they cover well this summer I got mine at end of summer sales and they looked very bad when I planted them but three out of the five gave me a few flowers before winter
clematis are very hardy plants and all they want is well drained soil and shade for their root ball which need to be planted on an angle so I always put columbines at the bottom of my columbines they do well together
I will be looking for more this year since the fence is about 240 feet to cover three sides of the pool area the house is the forth
for this year I am planting lots of morning glories also and japanese morning glories and some canary vines but each year as I add clematis I will put less of the summer vines
Hi folks,
I took a look at my NOID Clematis to see what I needed to prune back on it and I found lots of big, firm seeds. Has anyone tried planting seeds from their Clematis? Do they come anything close to true? Anything special I need to know?
Ann
A bit of info here Ann.

Gardens North has lots of clem seed and I was thinking of trying some but it looks like it takes too long for me!
at my last house I had a good collection but I couldnt take them with me lol so I just started again and already have 8 of them and put in the 8th one today which is a fall clematis and everytime I get a good deal I usually dont pass it up since I just love them they bloom so nice and beautifull, also love any other vine which most of them are tropical and come in for the winter and stored
this year I started creeping canary cant wait to see it bloom also lots of Japanese morning glories
I just found this great thread! I have 8 clematis. A's, C's and 1 B. I'll post pics as they bloom.
Just ordered some new ones for this year.o: rundlegd@telusplanet.net
Clematis viticella Zephyr ,1Clematis x viticella Negritjanka
Clematis x viticella Romantika ,
Clematis x alpina Jacqueline du Pre
Clematis viticella Brocade ,
Clematis x koreana Brunette ,
from local nursery Rundlewood Gardens
and from Garden Import:
Clematis texensis MEINIE BELLE
Clematis alpina STOLWIJK GOLD
These are all A's and C's - I dont bother with B's although some I would love to have - they are just not reliable here.
I just put in stolwijk gold last year Carol. I'm really looking forward to it's foliage. It's budding out now. I bought my B by mistake. Thought I lost it the first winter but it survived. It will be interesting to see if/how it is this year.
Neat: Wondering how it will do. Debbi(Clematisguru) says those plants with yellow leaves are not so hardy as others. I note that that one plus Meinie Belle are both Zone 4 so I will try to get them in a protected spot! We will see.
Interested to see how your 'B' does ( what is it?) Usually the old wood does not survive our winters and thats why the B group does not do so well here.
I suppose one could take it down and protect for the winter and tie it up again on a trellis.
For those who are wondering here is C. alpina Stolwijk Gold. Pic from Gardenimport catalogue.
The B is 'Louise Rowe'. It did survive the first winter on the ground but I left it up this winter so we'll see. No sign of leaf buds on it yet. I put the stolwijk gold on the east side against the house.
after being on this thread I went out today and checked up on my clematis all are up except one but it is the only that blooms late summer into fall so I was not expecting so see anything yet maybe at the end of may or something the other five are about 6 inches tall and my dog snapped out one of the branches so I will have to put little fences around them so he cant destroy them lol
Clematis take a long time to "get going" in the Spring.
It has been a miserable spring here but I notice a few shoots on some of my older plants.
wow nice pics love clematis mine are getting there will have blooms next month
that is a really nice one I planted toronto last year but it was so small it didnt bloom
now I am real glad I did its all leafing out and should bloom next month
Glad to hear your Toronto is doing so well. I found mine to be slow the first 2 years but this spring it’s just raring to go and has buds already. I must be doing something right. ^_^
The Crystal Fountain arrived today so she’s planted up. Have to get some compost to cover the root area.
Here’s the Toronto today.
My lovely little Jan Fopma is growing, its about 7-8" high now and I thought I would wrap it around the trellis to protect it from some strong winds yesterday. Big mistake! I broke it... Fortunately only in half, and there's still lots of growth started at the base, but wow, I feel like such an idiot.
Christine
LOL...it's happened to us all, Christine. It's got lots of time to grow. Happy belated Birthday, BTW. Hope it was a nice one. ^_^
Those buds are so cute Mona!!
Mason Hogue in Uxbridge has clematises on sale for $10!! I'd already bought two yesterday morning, so I only bought another two. So to grow up my big old maple tree in a good bit of shade will be Nelly Moser. To the right of that, to grow up one of my giant black walnut trees will be Helios (yellow). To the right of that, on an obelisk will be Allanah (big red flowers), and to the right of her in bright sunlight on the fence will be Huldine (white).
Multi-Blue, also in the backyard, but in the centre of the yard and planted last summer, is growing like mad now, and Jan Fopma at the front of the house is slowly recovering from my blunder, but hasn't grown any more yet.
Wow, do I ever love spring!
Christine
Well I picked up my Clematis from Rundlewood this morning - he starts these himself I guess and they over winter in his yard so they are pretty small but they will do fine. The two I ordered from Garden Import have not come but at Cdn Tire to pick up some begonias I could not resist buying 'Niobe'.
A lot of my older clematis are finally starting to get lots of growth but some are not - the alpinas on my clematis fence are hardly doing anything yet.
I think my Betty Corning and Prince Charles might not have made it - time will tell. Very cold and raining here all day.
wow beautifull clematis nic pictures
violaAnn that clematis could be henri it is popular in our area and its the right size and color
So envious, I've planted several over the years but always must be in wrong location..must go in search of a few more ..
Well both Betty Corning and Prince Charles are alive and well. I just moved PC to a different location as the BC and PC were too close in color and put Niobe there instead. I though my Albo-marginata had the biscuit but I see one little shot almost at ground level so maybe not. Markhams Pink out on the clematis fence has not shown anything yet and not much to be said for Willy either.
All the others are doing nicely. There are a few blooms on Helsingborg.
