^_^ I sure hope the variegated solomon's seal is bright. I've a seen a few that don't have much white.
What have you ordered for spring 2009 - Part III
Thanks, Iris! I will check them out.
Cousin nut, I have both hostas 'Dancing In The Rain' and 'Abiqua Drinking Gourd'. Very nice ones. Still not mature plants for me. They grow slowly.
Karen
ok, just ordered some coleus - from the co-op...
and a small order from select seeds... actually I wish I could just go there since it seems to be so close..
I am finally getting a gardening itch again... so far I have behaved myself!!!!
The trouble with seeds is the numbers--who needs 500 seeds, but I am thinking of the calendula, only way to get them.
JoAnn, I ordered that astrantia last year. It was a small plant then. Hopefully it's gotten big enough to bloom this year. That's a pretty one.
I ordered more seeds last night. Going crazy with seeds this year. I still have a lot of annuals and veggie seeds I want to order.
Here is my list from Value Seeds:
Achillea 'Summer Berrie'
Calendula 'Pink Surprise'
Carrot 'Creme de Lite' F1 Hybrid (a cream colored carrot)
Carrot 'Purple Dragon'
Catananche (Cupid's Dart) Bicolor
Clarkia 'Pink Buttercups'
Cosmos 'Daydream'
Dianthus Maiden Pink 'Brilliancy'
Impatiens 'Tempo Apricot'
Larkspur ajacis 'Splish Splash'
Lettuce 'Buttercrunch'
Papaver nudicaule 'Oregon Rainbows'
Petunia 'Flambe Salmon' F1 Hybrid
Poppy - the Orange Poppy (a biennial from Spain)
Pulsatilla 'Red Cloak'

Karen!!
How big did your astrantia get?
I ordered it from GC because it said a height of 16-20 inches, then saw it on another site at 20-34 inches. Thats way too big for where I want it.
DD says maybe there isnt enough sun to make it grow that big.
I want the plant so will plant it with the Terrecotta yarrow and Baja red DL's
Sounds like a nice combo, Jo Ann. I was looking through Klehm's catalog, & think I'm ordering kalmia, a dwarf blue lilac, & maybe a tree peony---when is the stimulus check coming?
We just want a "tax forgivness" this year.
Geeee Whiz .... NY State .... Highest taxes in the country ..... wonder why you would ask for that, JoAnn!!
^_^
Just thought I'd ask, hope for some break
I'm a-hopin' and a-askin' right along with ya!
Jo Ann, my astrantia isn't full grown yet. Didn't get more than a few inches it's first year. But I have read it gets 25-30". Maybe the height is just really dependent on where you live, the soil, climate, how much sun/shade, etc. I don't know. Or maybe just too many catalogs are getting it wrong.
I would like tax forgiveness, too, Jo Ann. would be nice to get back all that I paid into for taxes, which I think is about 20% or more of my total income.
Karen
Just think---you're feeding the octuplets! Love the way my salary was taxed---now my retirement is taxed---double taxation? When I spend that money on anything here in CT, taxed again! Oh, & the state of CT says we never pay enough & we end up paying again at tax time---the one time we overpaid, --no refund---they just kept it for the following year--how did they know we would still BE here the next year! We should of moved to NH.
I haven't ordered a darn thing yet! (Of course, dh is still laid off.) But dd has been browsing a few catalogs for "weird" plants to grow in her garden this year! I need some Borage seeds - better check the forums!
Test germination results are in from the bulk seeds I ordered from Hazzard's Wholesale Seeds after just two short weeks.
Of 11 ordered, only 3 have yet to sprout, well, 2, the heliotrope and the gunnera. I know heliotrope can take 1-3 months to sprout.
The scabiosa has had two sprouts out of five seeds, and one looks kind of deformed.
The remaining 8 have done very well!
Filipendula hexapetala: 9 out of 10 seeds

I can smell the basil!
willie i planted mammoth this weekend as well as an italian one that touted its aroma - how big will they be by planting time?
My Aroma 2 has a good, strong basil scent. The Mammoth smells tens times stronger and deeply of licorice .....
have been planting the mammoth the last two years - very nice
This is my first with both basil types. I like to use a lot for edging around the beds.
I am not a fan of licorice, but I am thinking I will like this basil.
Looking luvly WNYwillieB. Helitrope marine germinated in 21 days for me the last time I seeded it. Now I'm wondering if I should start it now? hmmmm. That basil looks likes it needs thinning (eating) . I will not eat my basil sprouts this year. I will not eat my basil sprouts this year. My delphs are doing nada probably cuz it's too warm where I have them.
I haven't been following this thread. But I thought I'd pop in to say hi.
I've been trying not to order anything. I want to save my budget for local nurseries. But I did break down today and placed an order with Seneca Perennials. I saw it had good reviews in Garden Watchdog and they had some unusual things I wanted to buy.
Seneca Perennials Order
Lilium-philadelphicum
Clematis-texensis-Tarpley-River-form
Kniphofia-caulescens
Asclepias-tuberosa,-deep red-orange
I figure I won't see these at any local places so it's worth a shot. : )
Ooh I'd be happy with one passiflora, I've heard they are tough!
I'd be happy with one, as I have heard they are tough, too!!
Besides, looks like you have a couple others there to distract ya, Allison!! ^_^
Besides, I have 45 more to try to sprout ........ be nice to get a good dozen.
I have to hold my horses .... be too soon and I will be out of room and still too cold to use the coldframe .... though .... I suppose I could put a space heater out there ..... but, then I couldn't call it a coldframe .... or could I??
I just know somethings germinate for me... and some don't... so start too many
:)
