Yupper 12-18 months for Vibernum lantinoides seeds? They will have a Birthday Party before they are even born.

We had a plow guy for the first time this yr & he came & put his own orange markers along the driveway. Since the driveway is gravel (installed by plower a few yrs ago) he puts the blade down and flattens the snow. DH has the mailbox mounting so that he can swing it in when it is snowplowing time. Swings it out so the mail can be delivered. Snow has melted next to the house & can see snopdrop foliage. I knew the sneeky plants were coming up under there. There is no sign of the smart peonies. Still plenty of snow around, but the winged seated lion which used to have snow up to the middle of his chest, now has clear feet.

well the good news is we were able to get up all but one set of candy canes... might only have to wrap a few of them... LOL... up until today we were not able to pull the stakes out... Randy wanted to leave them out there so we will be able to find them once the snow melted... the pile shrunk a bit today... hopefully soon we will be able to get them all out

I have crocus in bloom.
I ended up digging these up while planting last summer, set them aside to replant only to find the little pile some time later, then leaving them on the counter in a little cup for another while, til I came across them sprouting. So potted them and set them on the window sill. A nice early treat.

Hi RC

Good Morning. Thanks for reminding me.... I forgot to mention that Deb's crocus is quite refreshing as well.

The little hands photo reminds me of the anciant manderines with those loooooong nails

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Definitely! I couldn't think of what those really, loooong nails reminded me of. I think that's it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice, Shelly. Love the first one too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok I found some dahila seedling tips... hope it's right... says to pinch after 3rd set of leaves formed... and right above the 3rd set... and again a few weeks later

Thomaston, CT

Thanks Deb & Shelley & Allison for the plant photos--the dahlias are ready to pinch after 2nd set of leaves, I believe. My 1st sign of spring---the vultures are back gliding over the cliffs. My DH said it's weird longing for the vultures to return, but that means snow is receding.

Thomaston, CT

Ooops---glad you read the info before you pinched!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

allison do the birds only come in the fall or are they year round?

they only come here in those numbers in the fall.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Allison, pirl grows from seed and I do believe she said to pinch after the 2nd or 3rd set. Not sure...you could d-mail her.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I usually see them right before spring... (they are earlier this year than last... (hope that's a good sign) and again in fall

thanks Pixie... I will do that!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

debilu, Love seeing the crocus even if it is inside. I have a pot of Hyacinth that I dug up two years ago as they had a serious clash going on where I had planted them and I meant to replant somewhere else, but didn't. They are blooming again in a pot in the greenhouse. Not so splendid looking, but a great scent. I was surprised to see them again. The rewards of benign neglect. Patti

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, I heard you! Congrats, I have an army of them out, but we are a lot warmer than you. They do make me happy. Hellebore, the only one the deer didn't totally devour, is in bloom too. Pictures to come when I get outside. Patti
