Garden Photos of '09......#2

Not good business practice for sure.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - it was only my photo! No remorse - nothing. In fact, the partner who answered the phone 'assured' me that they pay for all photos. I assured her I was not paid. She asked if I was sure it was mine! I said - looks like my house, my pond and my tree. I then sent a link to the PF photo they stole.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

sounds like they have their foot in it.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

JoAnn how did you lose your 8 lbs?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have been sick with bronchitis and pneumonia and lost appetite
PLUS
I am a diabetic with a history of non compliance so my doc gave me an ultimatum,"see a endocrinologist and diabetic councelor" or he would raise my insulin( this makes you gain weight.
My daughter had started counting calories on a website called Live strong, it has a "my plate" calorie counter.
I knew I was taking in just enough calories to maintain the weight I had with my sedentary lifestyle so If I was going to lower my blood sugar I would have to lower my calories.
Its not so bad but I feel like Heidi Klume but look like Marjory Maine.
I honestly feel better and getting around is easier than it used to be. I have more energy because the sugar is down.
The website is LIVESTRONG.com
Sorry if this is too much info but I believe in full disclosure.lol

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great! Keep it up.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Its amazing how big a difference those pounds make.
I'm going for ten in all.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Start walking - you'll feel even better!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have been walking 1/2 hour a day since Sunday. The weight steadied and yet I felt starved so I knew the metabolizm had to get kranked up.
Thanks V.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's terrible Victor... amazing how.. bad business some of these places can be

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I use sparkpeople.com to track my food intake and my exercises(includes any calorie buring activity which I like)...I have 15lbs to lose(still haven't lost all that baby fat) guess it's not considered baby fat now after 2 years but I wouldn't have the fat if it wasn't for having a baby sooooooo....
I was within 5 lbs of my pre pregnancy weight because I had that awful intestinal thingy last year but blew it all with easter candy...had the worst chocolate cravings EVER. So now I have 15 to lose, I just really need to get back into exercising which I did 2 days in a row (Yay for me!) I do go for walks if the weather is nice...but I need to do intense workouts to lose the baby belly. As it is I have a bi-level and I'm running(yes running) up and down those stairs at least 100X a day.

South Hamilton, MA

I have felt lots better after weight loss, some coming back this winter as I am not out gardening. Walking not an option because of bad ankles. Not using inselin as yet, trying not to have to do so.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's great, Jen. Go gradually, though. Most people who don't stick with exercise programs try to do too much, too fast.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I walk the street oooopa that sounds funny huh?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pilates and aerobics, not too intense yet...then I add the light weights

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow, what gorgeous flowers that Plectranthus has, Allison. Very nice! And nice article, too. Didn't know Plectranthus and coleus were in the mint family.

Wow, Victor, that just goes to show how easy it is to steal photos off the internet. That's a real shame. I hate people who are that dirty.

I was trying to go to the gym on a regular basis, but I don't have a lot of time. If the gym were closer it would be a little easier. There is half an hour travel time back and forth.

Oh, I wanted to share with everyone that I got my new camera today. I have to familiarize myself with it now. I got the Fuji Finepix S2000HD.

Congrats, Karen - have fun!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah NFD... good for you... start practicing!!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Onewish re: your impatience with seeds. Viburnum lantanoides (hobble bush): 12-18 months for germination. I seeded them this Saturday and I'm already checking them for germination (snort). I totally luv walking. Its a good way to scope out other peoples gardens without seeming snoopy (unless you ring their doorbell to ask about a plant and then they probably figured out that you're snoopy).

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

most gardeners love people asking questions about their garden just pay them a compliment and they are your best friend for ever hhahahah its in the blood this gardening thing

mona

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

not too many gardens in my neighborhood... nothing to see here but azaleas, rodies and some mountain laurel

the worst seeds I ever messed with were a pack of hellebore seeds... said out of the fridge for 6 months... in the fridge for 6 months... out of the fridge 6 months ... etc .... i did that for a year and a half.. then threw them out

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

hope you remember where since they may come up someday hahahhaha

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Allison, you need to check out the PNW forum, there is a thread about hellebores and they were talking about seeding. Very interesting.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

PNW 'hellebore time' thread that Jan mentioned. Plenty of pretty pictures!
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/939100/

Great Job Karen!

Allison, I sure hope that your plant comes back, it's sure a nice one.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Shelly. :)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

What (on the hellebore seeds)!!!!! Sounds complicated. I was planning to get some. How many times do you have to go through with that in and out of the fridge process, Allison?

Cousin nut, did I read that right? 12-18 months for Vibernum lantinoides seeds? Did you really mean months, or is it days?

Karen

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Sure thing Jan!

Karen, to sum it up very quickly. Hellebores reseed easily, however it will take a long time to germinate on their own. If you put them through those warm/cold cycles you'll get seedlings much sooner.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Okay, I will keep that in mind. Thompson and Morgan has a bunch of Hellebore seeds on sale, and I want to get some if they still have them when I end up making the order. Still trying to decide for sure on everything I want to order from them.

Karen

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

If you're interested in hellebores, you really should take a look at that thread. Join in!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that is a nice thread... thanks.. I am assuming the seeds I had were not fresh... (bought them from TM) and it was my first year with seeds... the over watering might not have helped... I put them in the garbage since it ended up getting moldy

RC I too also hope your hellebore looks like that last photo you posted... it's purty!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Crocus sprout pictures today as soon as it's light enough. Probably wont be any sun.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Shelly, if I get a chance I'll certainly check out that hellebore thread. I have so many threads I'm trying to keep up with right now, though, and I have a hard time with them. I'll never keep up once the gardening season kicks in. I won't have any time!

Karen

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Crocus's peepingBefore everyone gets in a sweat we are due for more bitter weather.
These shoots will stay like this until late March.
Just to show us there is hope.

Nice to see crocus popping up, Jo Ann!!

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, I thought you meant blooms, Jo Ann! I have foliage too.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I probably have foliage, too, but it's still buried under snow. With the next couple of days in the lower 50's maybe I will finally see them!

Karen

Thomaston, CT

No crocus or daffs, but the snow melted on the south side of the garage, & here are the annual scabious, just as green as last fall---also, the dianthus looks good. Victor--can't believe the stolen photo--no ethics! Good job on the weight loss, folks--as you get older, it gets harder! Well, can't post photo--had a new carrier & everything is more of a mystery to me---have to get my DIL to help!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

i tried to smack up that block of ice in front of our house to get the STUPID candy canes in... no luck still .... between the plow and Randy with the snow blower it's got to be 3 foot deep still... and real solid

:(

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Same with me at the front of my garden near the street. The idiot town plow guy ripped into the first few feet of the bed and built up a huge hill of snow - now ice. They do this all the time. During and right after the storm, they clear the snow away enough for easy access. Then they come back the next day or two, feeling compelled to get every last flake off to the side!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Hope! I went to New Orleans for a few days. Came back to more snowdrops. Magnolias are in bloom down there. Patti
