Garden Photos of '09......#2
Nice, Bill. Love the branching in that first one. How old??
that one was a home depot purchase - it was large but had sever broken branch damage - it is 11 years old - moved with me from my old house and transplanted once here to this spot where it found a home.
you ask a simple - 11 years old - question and get the life history - that's the way it is
Every tree has a history!
nice pics
Thanks, everyone, for the condolences on my car. I will definitely make some noise if the other driver's insurance gives me trouble about paying. It's pretty clear-cut that she was at fault. She lost control and veered into my lane, hitting my car. How much clearer could it be?
Awwwww, cute delph seedlings, Mona, and gorgeous hibiscus! That pic you posted of the delph border is awesome!!! Wouldn't I love to have a delph border like that. I have some in a cottage garden in front of the house, and I plan to add more this year.
Nice pics of your naked trees, Bill!
Karen
Eevie.... That's a cool picture!
Bill, the snow shows off the branch structure of all of your trees very well! Too much snow though!! So, you tree is older than 11 right? You've had it 11 years, but it was a decent sized tree when you bought it. Or maybe I read that wrong.
My delph seeds started sprouting late last night, Mona, so I showed them the picture you post of yours to give them encouragement!
The Queen has quite the structure .... nice winter interest, for sure!
Wish I had a GH.
I will take joy in watching the snow melt and look for galanthus starting in a few weeks.
I have been watching for the yellow in the Willow Bark to start glowing. Then, I know spring is here in these parts.
Thanks for the reminder. We have tons of that here.
They are my favorite tree ..... gee I wonder why .... hahaha
Willows in our area are yellow, Willie---I noticed the other day---always a good sign! Jo Ann---nice watercolor that would make. Bill---glad to see what my JM will look like in winter--loved the coral bark maple. Delphs are a fav of mine, but they never make it through the winter--I plant the species, or larkspur also, so I'll have some for the summer.
Guess we can expect to see some yellow in a few weeks as we are that much behind you.
I was recently reminded of Rusty Foxglove
e.g. Digitalis ferruginea 'Gelber Herold'
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/108667/
I think these might be a more hearty Foxglove than D. purpurea.
Anyone have these?? Any thoughts on the species over purpurea??
I don't have those but I have grown the Digitalis grandiflora Ambigua for the last two years. I am hoping it will return again this spring as well. It is from most reports a short lived perennial but will re-seed to keep a batch going. Has a long bloom time and if you deadhead it will send side shoots, then if they are cutback a lesser bloom in the late summer/fall may happen. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/504/
Those are nice ... I like the foliage and that the flowers are a softer yellow.
It is hard to figure out which are truly perennial and which are biennial. I am trying to find a "strong" perennial variety.
Well these are supposed to be as perennial as you can get with digis. They flowered the first year and came right back up last year. So far so good. We will see if they return again after this nasty snow covered winter. I like the softer shade of yellow too, blends well with everything.
The bloom shot today is Shelly's. Shelly - you'll be getting a bill for my retina damage!
What bloom shot?
Am I missing a forum somewhere?

My eyes still see a spot
Good grief that is one awsome piece. It would make a beautiful etching.

You Rock
Wow! Great pic for bloom.com, Shelly! Congrats!
Karen
That is AWESOME! So vibrant.
Thanks folks! Sorry about the retinas! Good luck getting a return on that bill though Victor!! I was wondering why i've been seeing spots since September, it's from taking the picture.
hi shelly - great picture - has nat'l goegraphic asked you to go a a shoot yet?
btw - picked up the chainsaw today - finally!
Allison, I am just overrun with them now. Every single day, multiple times per day and always in groups. Ugh!! Have not surveyed the damage yet. I will be p***ed, for sure.
they usually come around at around 4 or 5.... up until this week I couldn't get clear shots of them.. too dark ... goes to show how much lighter it is getting
I'd like to get a clear shot.
sigh... me too
I put the well-sweep photos up

lol..... Yeah right Bill! But, thanks. So glad that you finally got that thing back, and never to go back there!!
Cute pic Onewish... Glad that they are there.
These are my two new additions to the yard. The established hellebores aren't blooming yet. But, since these two just came home with me ....they are, which is really nice. Although I may have to cover them quite a few times.
Just for you Jo Anne, I didn't crop everything else out of the pictures! Although, that has a lot to do with the fact that there isn't a plethera of weeds or potted plants waiting to be planted in this particular bed.
Your killing me.
Those are beautiful.
You have a great eye for nature.
Talent is in Photography. Keep it up.
beautiful shots RC
