DAILY PICS VOL.178

Marlton, NJ

Great pics everyone!

Evie, I like your Coopers Hawk.

Burn, As always love the Grosbeaks and Redpolls!

Nanny, Lovely suet friends!

Woodbridge, VA

Yes, Boojum, I remember the schmoos. Does that date us or what? LOL I agree that Burn's pigeon looks like one. I enjoy looking at all of the photos, especially those of water birds, redpolls, and grosbeaks. Those are birds that we don't have in this area. One winter I was so excited to see a rose-breasted grosbeak on our deck. It was there for only a few minutes. I'm sure it was 'lost,' but it was beautiful.

Thanks wbirdwoman! Glad I'm not alone! It was a L'il Abner book.

South Hamilton, MA

L'l Abner comic strip in the day's paper. Remember the reverse, the nogudnik--have lots of seedlings of that description.

Great pics, everyone, and thank you for your comments.

This Bald Eagle photo was taken last weekend at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. He is sitting on an Osprey nest with a webcam right above him. Within another two months, this nesting site will be occupied by the Osprey returning from Central or South America.

Below is a link that takes you to the Osprey nesting site. While visiting this link you may want to also click on the Eagle cam which currently has an eagle incubating two eggs. It's quite interesting to watch the entire process evolve.

Nice pics nanny and Linth!

We were supposed to be bright and sunny today but so far it's very overcast.

I was happy to see the female Hairy Woodpecker come into the yard for some suet.
She sampled all 5 cakes in the 3 different locations. I have never seen a male Hairy in the yard. Here she is on the tail prop feeder. Taken through the window.

This pic is only good for ID purposes showing the pure white outer tail feathers.

The Downy Woodpecker has blacks spots on their tail.

She had just chased a downy off the suet feeder before this.

The Carolina Wren wouldn't turn around but he loves eating the peanut halves from this feeder.

This Mockingbird stands on one foot every time he comes to our water dish. I've been watching him as he scratches around our lawn, and (again) he hops on that one good foot. I'm hoping that he isn't in any pain and that his claw will heal someday. I guess that healing of that sort is too much to hope for.

Okay I see the other one now.

I saw this Blue Jay today with a beak that was very weird. See how much longer the lower one is that the top one?

Now that this thread is almost filled up thanks for starting it Pelle! My computer has been throwing fits...grrrrrr...

Wonderful pics and selection on this thread everyone.

Pelle..I love the pics of the Downy and Hairy...very good ones showing the difference in the two.

Your Blue Jay is very handsome and looks like that beak hasn't slowed him down at all!

I spotted the Cardinal with the deformed beak again and he is still looking good!

We cross posted Duc...I love the mood of the Dove pic and that Jay looks like he is performing for you!

Melbourne, FL

Beautiful pics, everyone. Way too many to mention one or two, I love them all.

PERTH, Australia

I have been following the thread even though I haven't been posting. The photos are all just wonderful. I loved the Roadrunner on the previous thread. What an intriguing bird.

Every evening as I'm sitting at the Osprey nest, a New Holland Honeyeater alights in a dead tree. The tree is always in shadow when he arrives and I play around with the settings on the camera and push the ISO. I've surprised myself with some of the shots I've managed to take. This one was from about three weeks ago.
