The more I look at this photo the more I like it . . . of a group of Canvasbacks just rising from the water ........

Guess why this duck is called a Long-tailed duck ..... formerly known as the Oldsquaw.

It's very artistic.

Good golly but these are amazing closeups. Ducks are so much more willing subjects than those crazy warblers and such.

Marlton, NJ

Wow you guys have been super busy today. Great pics everyone!

I do wish the pros would stop changing the common names of birds.

Hello, everyone. I don't usually post here but I have a question about robins and I figured if anyone knows the answer people here will! Do they migrate? I ask because I saw a flock of them on groundhog day and it seems very early. This is a good thing if it means Phil was wrong and spring is coming early! I was wondering if it was just a test flock to scope things out? Maybe?
I'd say I haven't seen more than one Robin around here, since sometime about Novemeber. Are they just hiding out though?

Marlton, NJ

Hi Meredith, Some do migrate south but others stay here year round.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thank you it's good to know, but now I'm sad that my hope of an early spring will only be a hope.

Marlton, NJ

I'm still hoping Meredith. ^_^

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Me too : )

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Meredith, they just migrate to our area (in Jan or feb) for a few weeks or however long the red berries last on all the native Toyon trees. You could add some sort of berry bush or tree to your yard to attract them as they go by your area.

Outstanding photos everyone!!

Burn, I hope your sick Grosbeak will make it through the winter.

As funny as this female Red-belled Woodpecker looked on this small suet basket...the flicker looked even funnier on it...but I missed that shot!

wow nanny, that's a lot of pictures! great activity everyone has at their feeders.

I finally have an exciting thing to share - a hawk! I think it is a Cooper's Hawk. I was sitting at my desk, looked up and saw it. Awesome! Here it is sitting in the sun

Here it is scratching its belly with its beak. Not a great shot, but always fun to see this kind of "mundane" activity (we ALL get itches!)

here it is just finished scratching. you can see the lighter back of the head

it hung out for quite a while, on one branch and then moving to another more in the sun. at one point I looked down and when I looked back up it was gone :( I didn't get to see if fly away. Oh well, it was enough to see it at all!

Hi Evie, and thanks for the pics of your Coopers Hawk. It is a beautiful bird, especially when it flies. We have one who comes around, especially on windy days. Fortunately, I haven't seen him snag any of our birds.

I just noticed that the head is cut off in the small pic they list here. Pls click through to see the whole thing (cropped from the original, so shouldn't be too big).

Thanks, I already did. Blessings to you, and to the rest of you Birders.

luvsgrtdanes, that's a great photo of the Kinglet. The little guy moves so quickly that you almost have to click the camera before he comes into view. LOL

Oh that nice Evie, I like hawks,
Beautiful pictures Linth.

A few Common Redpolls.

Those Pine Grosbeak are really nice birds. Since the Doves have invaded the place, they eat on the ground, below the deck, where I can't get pictures of them. Once in a while, they'll come up to the flower box. And this is one of those time.
