Hello Lin,
I'm glad you liked it!
Thank you for the idea, I uploaded the pictures to the PF, and the reply said that it will be reviewed for accuracy and posted later.

Christine....your H. siariae is lovely....and it is a favorite of mine, too. Love the leaves. Another one similarly looking is H. blashernazie except the flowers are larger and yellow!!

H. patella is so neat....I love it when it blooms because each flower is about the size of a small umbel!!! I have not found it difficult to grow, either....easy. The first 2 patellas I had I lost because someone told me they came from N. India and liked cooler/darker/drier!!! After killing those two I learned they like bright indirect light and a lot of warmth!!!! ....

If at first you don't succeed.....

Beautiful flowers everyone. My hoya are not doing too well, due to the freezing temps. we had. I lost four so far, and some of the larger ones have some leaf damage. They were outside and covered with blankets and mattress covers, but the temps were down to the 30s.
As for my orchids, it looks like they all survived the winter. They are also outside and were covered during the cold spell.

(Zone 1)

Eileen, A lot of my plants are suffering from the cold too. Arrrgh! I don't like it when we have nights in the 30's! My yard looks awful with all the brown damage from the freeze we had last month. We had two nights where it got down to 26º and one night where it was @28. I brought my few orchids and most hoyas into the house. Everything else was either hauled into the unheated Florida Room/Porch and under the covered deck. My husband put up a heavy plastic tarp on the north side of the deck to keep the cold air out and we hung old blankets on the other end. I still covered all the plants with old blankets, even the ones in the Florida room but a lot of the plants are still showing damage from the extremely cold air. A couple of the hoyas got left on the porch and look real bad. One is my Iris Marie which was sooo pretty, and the other is H. microphylla variegata which now only has one leaf on it. :(

We are supposed to be down to 38/39 here tonight and 35 tomorrow night so I have been hauling in stuff again! This SHOULD be our last cold nights for the winter though! The weather has been so freaky this year with temp's fluctuating a lot. One day it will be 83 and the next in the 60's! Very strange!

Well, I am off to meet and have lunch with another DG'er who is in the area visiting family! I look forward to meeting a friend from the garden! I still think it would be so great if some day there could be a DG Convention somewhere so a lot of us could meet and chat in person!

Have a great day everyone!

Oh my, another beauty I don't think I've seen before! Lovely pachyclada bloom!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I hope my pachyclada makes the winter freeze. That is such a pretty bloom.

Wow, the red/white contrast is exceptionally lovely on pachychlada. Spring is coming, even to Canada, and hopefully mine will start growing more than roots...

Hey Sunshine, do you have pic of the whole plant? Very pretty.

I am so tired of moving plants in and out ... here I thought we were done with cold weather and it's going to be in the 30's tonight, Grrrr!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

My H. pachychlada is finally showing some signs of new growth. It has just sat there forever. I think that this is one of the Hoyas that is best treated like a succulent - that is let it dry thoroughly between waterings. That bloom is wonderful, and I hope I live long enough to see mine bloom as well.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks everyone. Here is a photo of the plant.(3 more peduncles)

Carol, yes smell wonderful.
Lin, thanks.
Pdoyle, you are welcome.

H. polyneura is one that should be considered to be grown like a succulent...growing it in a LOT of light/sun and little water....you can judge what it needs...little water.

Smells divine....

Boy this has been a good week for me! Hoya limoniaca opened its first flowers, and it has two more unopened umbels of flowers on it. I've heard its a blooming fool once it gets going and its proving true. I tried taking a picture the other night after work but the flash washed out what little colour it has. So here it is in indirect sunlight, with me forcing the flash closed while I take the picture. The things we do to get the right shot ... lol. And boy, what a scent!! Very, very strong the first night, but it calmed down and the subsequent evenings it was just a very pleasant scent, sort of a combination of carnations and jasmine maybe. I'm not too good at describing scents.

How old is that Hoya? Mine is growing like a weed but still no signs of flowers.

I got it in the summer of 2005, and it has grown like a weed so has a massive amount of foliage. It really likes morning sunshine.

Christine

(Zone 1)

Oooh, nice Christine! I've never noticed much of a scent on carnations but the fragrance of Jasmine is a favorite of mine, so that sounds wonderful! Another new hoya to add to my "wish" list!

I need more space! ^_^

I have no hoya blooming - seems like mine all prefer to bloom during the summer and fall. But, I am lax about watering in the winter months so that might have something to do with them resting and taking a break from producing blooms.

North Augusta, ON

I have mine in a South window, but high up and to the side so it doesn't get the full brunt of the sun, just until noon or so. You're right, it is very happy with that sun it gets. I should get flowers next year maybe, it was one of the first cuttings you gave me!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Very pretty bloom, Christine. My little limoniaca is struggling to grow. For me it's a slow grower. Maybe I should water it a bit more. As soon as the weather stays warm, I'm going to re-pot them all into a little heavier mix. That may do the trick. They seem to dry up too quickly and not grow or bloom. Only the australis is satisfied with it's soil. It's been in the same pot, same mix for over six years and blooms every year. When I first potted it, I put it in Miracle Grow cactus soil. Nothing else. All my newer hoya are in a chunky mix. I may add some cactus mix to a few of them and see what happens.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

How often do you water yours in the chunky mix?

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

I got this hoya from Sweden labeled as Sp.Palawan, IPPS 9052. It has a very light scent.

Carol, during the summer months, it's very humid here, so they get hose watered once a week if it doesn't rain. During the winter months (Oct-Feb) I hose water them when I remember, probably every 10-15 days. They are all outside under lanai and get morning sun until 11 AM.
When the temps drop below 40 deg. they are covered with blankets.

That's so pretty Awanda!

Thanks C! My Dischorensis has bloomed, another yellow flowa.

Lourdes,
I love your H. patella.........I managed to kill my cutting I got from DL last summer.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you Ric, sorry to hear about yours =(

(Zone 1)

I'm so enjoying everyone's bloom photo's!

Awanda: That sp. Palawan is really nice and I really love the looks of dischorensis with that pale yellow bloom, very pretty! I don't have any hoya with a yellow bloom (well, I have cummingiana and I think someone said that is yellow? but my plant hasn't bloomed yet!)

H. patella has to be one of the prettiest hoya blooms ever! It's one I ordered recently and can't wait for it to arrive! I've really, really wanted that one since seeing Carol's picture last month, and now Lourdes photo is making me even more excited to get it. I sure hope I can get it to take root. It will be very disappointing if it doesn't do well.

York, PA(Zone 6b)

My H. dimorpha put out another bloom despite the unsettled climate. Lots of nectar in this one. Love the color of these blooms!

Just under the wire for February, H pottsii aka nicholsonae, not sure of its formal name, but the flowers sure are pretty. Anyway, this is the second time its bloomed for me. The flowers are nicer this time, and I just love the scent. Hard to describe, but very pleasant. The newer leaves get lovely and red.
