This House Finch was gulping the berries from the Toyon tree.
Daily Pics - Vol 177
Thanks for the new thread Knip...I love your Goldfinch, they are so different from ours!
Wonderful shots and selection everyone...Linth that Snow Geese shot is unbelieveable!
I really enjoy seeing the birds posted here from all over the country and world, thanks to everyone!
The Carolina Wren seems to have taken up permanent residents in the garage..DH is not really happy with the calling cards on the 2 vehicles! Here are a few shots from this morning!
I'm thankful that I wandered into Dave's Garden and found the Birding thread. I especially like the photos of the Snow Geese and the Pine Grosbeak with the Redpolls. I have yet to see any of those birds in our area. Someone mentioned a Ruby Crowned Kinglet: my favorite. we have one that shows up each year, but I haven't seen him as yet. Hopefully, he won't forget where we live.
wbbirdwoman...after I discovered the Bird forum last year life as I knew it was over. It would be hard to imagine life without the forum and the birds!
Nice Waxwings wb and duc!
Wow Linth and Resin that's quite a sight! Beautiful Eagle too!
Cute Carolina Wren Rose!
Ah Rose, those pics of your Wren are too cute!! That second one has "Don't even think it!" written all over it.
Agree about this forum, too. I don't post a lot, but it is the first place I come to every time I sit down at the computer.
Barb
I would say Coopers Hawk.
ducubin, nice photo of the Cedar Waxwing. I haven't seen any for several months since I haven't visited their habitat. Unfortunately, they don't visit my backyard. They can be very photogenic.
Rose, nice photos of the Carolina Wren. They will build a nest in the garage if you allow it.
Resin, you're right about "the end of a runway". Those flocks would do a lot of damage. I hope to get some closer photos of the Snow Geese in the nest month before they migrate northward.
nanny, don't know if it is a Sharp-shinned Hawk or Coopers Hawk but he's got his eye on you.
Here is a photo taken on Sunday of an Eurasian Wigeon (far left) swimming with a few American Wigeons. It is the first one that I have ever seen or photographed. It is a rather rare sighting in my area or anywhere here in the U.S.
Nice pic Linth! I've been hearing a lot about them on the Jersey shore.
Cooper's for me too.
Over here, I'm always hoping for the odd American Wigeon among the Eurasian ones . . .
Resin
I've never seen a Wigeon at all that I know of. I love that shot Linth...great focus on all 4 of them!
Thanks, pelle and Rose. The only reason that all four are in focus is primarily the long distance v. settings. I used a 500mm lens with a 1.4x teleconverter (700mm). ISO was 200, shutter speed 1/500 and aperture priority was f8.
In the same general area, on Sunday, I also got my best photo to date of a drake Long-tailed Duck, formerly Oldsquaw. I had a pretty good day despite not seeing the Snowy Owl that I set out to search for.
Very nice!
Nice waterfowl linthicum! I saw Eurasians once and they were mixed with American Widgeons too. Wonderful shot of the Long-tailed.
That is a nice shot Julie!
Linth their beautiful.
Thanks to all of you for sharing the beautiful photos. Thanks to you too, kniphofia, for starting the thread.
my best photo to date of a drake Long-tailed Duck

Resin
HA! Duc!
My first stop too every morning. Bitter cold here today with wind blowing, wind chills around -10 today. Plus 3 inches of new snow this morning... YAY...NOT!!!!!
I have yet to venture out today to put all the feeders out. But there is the platform and the dinner bell with safflower in it. I threw a couple of corn cobs out from the back door for the squirrels!! LOL
It was so nice out sunday, so I took a couple of walks around my half mile. This squirrel nest is right across from the house. I heard all this racket...I knew it was a Carolina Wren somewhere. I finally spotted it! Getting bugs up there I guess?? (2 shots)
Nice pics nanny and bsharf!
It's difficult to get any good pics with today's weather but I saw an unusual sight just now.
White-throated Sparrows using the feeder. They kept landing on the opposite side of the feeder but here is a shot of one just above it looking down.
The Starlings came in and broke up the party but it was nice to see them in another place besides the ground looking for food.
