Planning a summer roundup at my place. Any Interest?
I know of a new Dave's Garden subscriber who needs a lift.

Thanks for the bump, Sherrie!
I'm already looking around a what to bring. The Rose of Sharons appear to be gonners, casualties of hungry Bambies. Oh well, I'll find something else. Grrr...
Bambi is fixing to become steak at my house! Today I sprayed Liquid Fence all over the gardens. We'll see if that will keep Bambi from munching on my pretties.
Karen
Bambi even came up to my oak tree for the acorns. Very seldom do they bother coming this close. I have an abundance of acorns and the coyotes are thick.
I noticed a Bambi a few weeks ago near the tree line at the side of the highway, and I have to say I've never seen a scrawnier thing than that! I wonder if it's been a particularly tough winter for them. Although frankly I have a hard time forgiving them for some of the damage they've done, nonetheless.
REALLY looking forward to drooling over your daylilies, Karen; I'm very much looking forward to this Roundup!
Me too! I can't wait!
I saw a Bambi in my woods just a few days ago. You guys may have heard me mention this before, but last summer, at the end of July, they ate thousands of buds off of thousands of daylilies all in one night. I was devastated! It was horrible.

wrong place?
Wow, that is a long thread, and one I will have to return to later. I definitely want to make some of those. Sounds like a fun project, but with all the other projects I have going here, and just with all the maintainence I have to do on the gardens, I don't know when I'll find time for anything else.
Karen
Yeeah, Karen, I know what you mean. Especially when one works full time, so you only have 8 days a month to get EVERYTHING done that you need to get done. Does look like fun...someday!
Yeah, only 8 days a month. Darn, when you put it that way, it's a wonder I get anything done at all. And then try to fit in a social life on top of it all. Oh, and taking my Dad to doctor appointments and such. Actually, I have 2 three-day-weekends each month, and 2 days a week I get home at 5:15, so during the daylight savings months I get some time those 2 days to get stuff done in my gardens, like tonight. I stayed out till it got dark, digging out a patch of tradescantia, trying to eliminate it from my gardens. Huge project, that.
Karen
Oh, put some in pots and give it away as party favors. I'll take some, Karen!
8 days/month minus rain, family committments, little league....
Carrie, you don't want the tradescantia! It takes over! You'll spend the rest of your life trying to get rid of it! However, if you have a big field where you can just let it run, then go for it. It is very pretty when blooming en-mass. Now the blue one is much more restrained and seems to stay in clumps and spreads only by seed. Same with the pale blue/almost white one. And there is one I want called Sweet Kate, which has blue flowers and chartreuse foliage.
Karen
I do want the blue one.
I'll see if I can pot some up for you.
Karen
Maybe it's the zone difference but I've had NO problem with it. I put it on the Northern side of my house 8 or 9 years ago, it has barely moved. The clump got a little wider and thicker but thats about it.
What kind do you have, Celeste? The only kind I have found to be invasive is the bright fuchsia purple one, which is stoleniferous. The others stay in clumps and spread a little by seed here and there, which is fine by me.
Karen
Ok, not sure which ones I have.....one is 'Osprey' I know.

Pixie, sorry, that one is too pale for me. :( I like the brighter blue or magenta ones. I just hate to think of Karen tossing them...
I hate tossing them, too, but they are taking over my gardens and crowding out everything else.
Celeste, that is a pretty one. I have one like that. Don't know if it's the same cultivar. It's very well behaved. I just bought the one called Sweet Kate. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55249/
Karen
This is the other one I own.........

Shows you what you can learn on this forum...I had no idea that spidewort came in so many colors. Pixie, that light blue is gorgeous! I have old fashioned purple from my mother. I have to say I love them.
That's really pretty, Celeste. What's the name of that one? I think they had it at Lambert's when I got my Sweet Kate, and I wanted to get it. I may go back for it when I get some more money.
Karen
YEES that purple is what I like. If you're throwing THAT away, Karen, don't!
I'm not getting rid of the blue ones in that picture, just the pinky purpley ones. They run rampant all over the place via underground runners, and once you have them they will crowd out all your other plants. Yes, they are very pretty, but when they take over you will hate them.
Karen
Oh, wow. They are pretty. Maybe in a pot.
Hee, a couple of years ago I bought gooseneck loosestrife. THEN I read how invasive they were. The first year they stayed in a considerate little clump so I thought I was safe. This year, OOF! They're escaping, so I know I have to get aggressive and pull them all out. Too bad, I rather like the little goose heads, but not all over!
I did the same thing. I'm selling off my loosestrife now. I have the variegated kind, but it reverts to the plain green quite often. I suppose if you could keep it contained it would be fine. Same with the tradescantia. You know what you could do, you could get a plastic storage container, cut out the bottom, sink it in the ground, then plant you tradescantia or loosestrife, or whatever in there. If you don't want it in that big of an area, then you could use a big, deep plastic pot and do the same.
Karen
Well, Karen, if you can stick some in a pot until July, I'd be delighted to give them a new home!
The transcendentia, I don't want no loosestrife, no way!
Actually, I have some potted up. They seem to do better in the ground, though. I don't know why. They are not happy in pots. Maybe if you cut the bottom out, then sink in the ground, like I mentioned, they would be just fine.
Karen
LOL! Okay, no loosestrife for you!
Karen
What a relief! That was a close one!!!
He heee!!!!!
*Weep*. poo loosestrife, unloved, unwanted...unweildy, uncontrolled.
