I think Gran is ranting.....there is a whole lot of very freezing cold wind blowing here in the normally "tropical" south..lol. I know we get some cold but.....brrrrrr....I tell you what I am really gonna pray for those in colder powerless areas...I am freezing with the heater on 70...mostly my toesies.......I am grateful, don't get me wrong, more sympathizing for those who may be without heat and power. I know several folks have been killed so far and we all need to be more thankful for the things we so often take for granted. I don't mean that in a mean way, its just that we don't feel so fortunate to be able to just jump up and turn a light on, till we jump up and can't. Gran you are and will continue to be in my prayers....when it warms back up, I will huff and puff and attempt to blow some warm air where needed...sure wish I could...really!

Everyone stay warm, safe and may God bless and keep each and all of you safe and warm! Laura

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

I sure hope Gran is able to get her power back up today.Everyone affected by these awful storms are in my prayers.I,too, have been through this in the past and thank God I'm here to talk about it.It makes you really stop and think how fortunate you really are and how much you have taken for granted.

Lin,
I had spring fever and went to a local nursery yesterday. They didn't have much to offer yet,but they had 2 Chirita Aiko. They were quite large and in bloom.Lovely plant, but $25 each! How long does it take them to get to that size?
Lynn

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

O for me. :(

How big were they? Don't you just love that yellow bloom?

They looked about 15 inches across and had 3 tall spikes of flowers. They were worth the money if you were buying them for a gift.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Those do sound very nice. I sure couldn't aford them though.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

HI Everyone--I'M BAAAAAAACK^_^ Repairman JUST left. Thanks everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. We are still without power but have the genny running full tilt!! The ONLY damage we suffered (Thank God!) was to the internet satellite. There are trees down everywhere-- it was really scary listening to all the trees snap! My poor animals were scared to death. It took DH 4 and 1/2 days to clear our road--our neighbor was iced "out" so he started at one end and they met each other about 3pm on Mon. Tues we got the generator. My poor plants having to sit in the dark:( Have to go pay bills now that I am back online--ttyl!
Tommie

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I couldn't either..LOL.I thought Aiko was supposed to be a compact grower.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Welcome back!! ^_^ I'm so glad you are OK.The last one we had a tree fell on the roof and I was scared to death listening to all the racket outside.I hope all your plants and animals are fine too.
Lynn

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

GRAN!!!!!! I'm so glad to see you! Sounds like you're basically ok. Hope there is enough juice on that generator to keep you online. I wanna hear all the details about the storm.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

I (WE) am/are fine--would REALLY like a hot bath--but alas no hot water yet. We actually fared quite well all in all--plenty of food, firewood (AND the recipe;) Only thing we didn't have was power. We were so much luckier than many. I am grateful DH was in off the road for all the fun and games. I would still be stranded if I had to wait on the county to clear the road outta here. DH was determined-- we ran out of beer on Saturday;) Now we have a generator too-- so if we get stranded again at least that base is covered. I have LOTS of pictures I'll post in a bit.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Sigh of relief------------->wide grin! ^_^

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

ohhhh so glad your back, we missed you & worried so. Glad you are all ok.
mrsbonnie

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Welcome back HG! So glad to hear that's all's well...considering.
I know that you're especially appreciating electrical power right about now;)
We were w/o power for 1.5 days after the June of '07 flooding....sure made me appreciate it when it was back(Ü)
Wishing you good things from here on out!

Highland, IL

Hi Tommie, like everyone else, I"M VERY HAPPY TO SEE YOU!!! Glad you kept warm and had enough food to last you!! I hope you get your electric on soon. Sorry you ran outa beer last saturday!!! I'm going to have to try your "recipe"!! I have a couple of girlfriends that will help me test it!!! I'll bring the beer when we meet in Springfield!! Again, just glad you are safe and sound!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Good to hear from you and that you are AOK, even without the electric working.

Brownsville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hello Hillbilly_Gran,
So glad you're able to post and came through the ordeal without any major mishaps. Our power was out for six days and restored on Monday by a crew of workers from Mississippi. We were finally able to get a generator the day before power was restored. I hope you'll have electricity very soon.

Hang in there!

Shirley

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Glad that you're back with us, HillbillyGran. Hope you have enough gas for the generator. I'm told they use a lot. We bought one in 2007, just is case we lose power after a hurricaine. I told my kids that we would not have any more hurricanes because we now have a generator. They laughed and thought I was crazy. Well, in 2007, and 2008, the hurricaines didn't do much damage, only heavy rain and flooding. We didn't lose our power at all. My kids said we should have bought rowboats. LOL. Told them we were one step ahead of them. We have boots instead. Just kidding!
