Hello everyone,
Tonight is the first time I've been able to get online because of the ice storm that came through here on January 26. We're still without electricity along with many others (around 4000) in our area. Luckily, my son was able to get a generator today. We've been told it could be 7 - 14 days before power is restored for everyone. In a neighboring county 600 electric poles were downed by the ice. I hope that anyone in a similar situation is keeping warm and has food and water.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

We've been hearing about the conditions in KY on the news--awful. I hope all the help you need arrives soon! Please take care and be careful.

Hi Ladies,

Just popping in for a minute to see how the game is going. Looks like a few of y'all are getting close! I found an old picture of my Chirita 'Aiko' which I'm not sure is even still on the plant stand. I've been in and out of town so much the past two months it's a wonder that any of my plants are still green! I've been trying to give them a little water here and there but it's been sporadic at best. Hopefully I will get a chance to give them a little TLC later this week.

My Dad is still hanging on. We are just so grateful that he is resting comfortably now after they had so much trouble controlling his pain a few days last week. I have had good experience with family members in hospice care in the past and the nurses always made sure the patient was not experiencing any pain. It has really bothered me that it took them so long to change Dad's medication to keep him out of pain. He is in a coma now and the doctors and nurses as well as his family are surprised he is still here but one of the nurses said that sometimes the soul and body don't leave at the same time.

I should be able to get back to posting on a regular basis in the near future ... sure miss seeing all the pretty pictures and chatting. Keeping good thoughts for all of you who got hit with those terrible ice storms, I've seen some photo's on the news and I can't imagine being without power for so long! I hope everyone stays safe in the frigid winter weather. We have had a few nights in the low 30's with frost this winter and one night later this week is supposed to get down into the 20's! Gee ... my yard looks awfully brown already with only a little green lawn left. I have two huge Hibiscus that I don't think will come back from the roots as they usually do ... they have had no protection from the cold. I can't wait for spring to arrive so I can get out and cut all the brown leaves from the Philodendrons and chop the Schefflera back.

Here's my C. 'Aiko' from last year:

I am happy your dad is not in pain. I will keep you in my prayers. I think about you often and wish there was more I could do. I lost both of my parents to cancer.

Lin the little plant is very pretty. I love the yellow flower.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh, Lin:( So sorry to hear about your Dad.
Will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs to you, dear friend.

I was rollin' along pretty good in the beginning...I was one of those who had 9 at the beginning...but I've only gotten 2 or 3 since that day!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Lin,
Good to hear from you.I am so glad they found a way to keep your dad out of pain. You are both in my prayers.Love your plant, especially since it's my favorite color.

So sorry to hear of your father. Thoughts and prayers for your family. Take good care.

I have Aiko...it hasn't bloomed yet but it is full of buds...I have to make sure I keep it watered so the buds don't dry out like my other chirita that "was" full of buds not so long ago. Pooh.

Lin, I have thought so much about you and your family. I got a call a couple of days ago from Kimskreations and she said if I ever talked to you to tell you that you are her favorite person on DG.

I think everyone feels the same way.

Thank you everyone for keeping me and my family in your thoughts and prayers, it really means a lot to me. Even though my Dad has never been close to any of us kids, it's still difficult sitting and waiting for the phone call to tell us he is gone. My only hope is that the Good Lord takes him soon so he won't have to suffer any longer. I don't think he is in pain, I think the meds have been increased enough to keep him comfortable for whatever time he has left. I can't imagine it will be much longer though, he now probably weighs less than 50 pounds, and is slowly wasting away. It's hard to see a loved one in that shape but I just have to keep my thoughts positive and KNOW that he is in God's hands and that HE does have a plan for each of us. Four years ago in an 8 month period, we lost my husbands brother, his mother, my own dear mother, and two friends. I think about it now and it just boggles my mind ... so many in such a short time. I truly believe that we will all be together again some day, so that brings me comfort.

Gail, I think about Kim often. Please tell her I said hello the next time you talk to her. She is a sweet young lady!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Lin, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. The only comfort we have is that one day, we will be together again.
On a happier note, I loved seeing your little 'Aiko'. I have a small one and I'm waiting for it to bloom. It's so pretty.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Today's Bingo Picks:

10. Kohleria – Bristol’s Possibly Bronze
12. Columnea – Lava Flow

Lin - I am glad your father is comfortable now. It is difficult to see people we know - close or not - in pain.

Tommy is still without power. They are supposed to be getting a generator sometime today. The road was cleared yesterday - whether that is "her" road, or a main road, I'm not sure. If the repairmen can make it, she hopes to be back online Thursday night.

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Lin;
You are in my prayers, god bless you & yours, your dad will be in a wonderful plase soon,

When I had to abandon my house after being without electricity for a couple of days, I could not have cared less about the pipes bursting or whatever. It was my plants...I was sure that all of them were gone. It was 35 degrees in the house when we got back to it. I am still amazed that every single plant was AOK. ?power of prayer? I think so.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I thank God every day that I am not without power. I have been before and know how awful it is. Got everyone without in my prayers.

Highland, IL

Lyn, I'm new here, but have gone through what you are now. I'm sorry anyone has to go through this. My thoughts are with you and your family. Be strong.

Warm thoughts going out to everyone with out power at this time. I hope they either have some type of safe heat or able to stay with family or friends, its just too cold.

I did get both numbers today, think I owe a couple of kids some candy!! Soooo, what kind do they like?
