I have been watching the threads and beautiful pics of the flowers you are planting for 2009.
But, I would like to see how you do it. We could all use some inspiration and ideas for doing our own.
Please post your pics of your garden beds. I know this has been done before, but we can all use some new ideas! I for one, would like to know WHERE you put that gorgeous new plant you bought last spring. It's time for a refresher.
I have to add it includes the veggies you are sneaking in between the flowers.
Show us your garden beds!
Ditto, to what cyndie said.
ngam, Thanks!
I can recognize the columbine and probably a bleeding heart, but tell us what you have planted?
I envy your nice big rocks.I would say you are not doing too bad there yourself. Nice color. Here is a mostly shade garden under an oak tree.
The flowering low mounds are creeping phlox. The silvery plant on right is artemesia 'Silver Mound'. The green low mounding plant is golden thyme. Just out of the pic to the right is a PJM rhodo and a 'Blushing Bride' hydrangea. You are correct about the columbine and fernleaf bleeding heart. The second picture is various hosta, brunnera 'Jack Frost' and another fernleaf bleeding heart. The golden green way in the back is hakonechloa.
This is newer garden, only a couple of years old. yellow and blue flowers. The tall yellow flower is helianthus 'Lemon Queen'. The tall purple flower just in front of that is verbena bonariensis. the spiky plant in the foreground is agastache 'Blue Fortune'. There is a rose in there too Crown princess Margareta.

This is the round garden and has been re- worked this year. This is in early July shortly after some new plants were added. The colors are pink, blue white and silver. It is a much more formal planting than most of the garden beds. The plants are spaced and repeated at regular intervals. The plants from the center out are rose James Galway and clematis Avant Garde on the umbrella trellis. A ring of six phlox 'Nicky'. A ring of pink and white delphiniums, three of each. The outer ring is alternating coneflowers, pink and white, and lavender, snow in summer, and salvia 'Marcus'.
Here is another thread with lots of garden shots of whole beds, hope it helps you, but from your pics I think you are doing very well on your own already. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/757117/
Thanks, ngam. It's always nice to look at a garden. People are always coming up with things that I would never have thought of. Especially the combinations. That's what I think about. It can be hard to decide what to plant together. Especially when you stop off at a nursery. They all look so pretty.
Hi ngam,
I frequently look at the Northeast forum but seldom post. I enjoyed the photos of your lovely garden. May I ask where you purchased the "hooded" trellis?
That is a great combo!!!!!
Semp, if you mean the umbrella trellis, I got it a few years ago on sale at J&P. Here is a link. http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/gardening/store/DisplayProductList?storeId=10201&CustSearchText=&SearchText=PillarsTrellises&pageNumber=3&searchSorter=null&searchFilter=Avail&next.x=61&next.y=14 They have different things on sale from time to time particularly in the winter.
Lee Anne that is a nice combo and the coneflowers at the other end make it a nice threesome.
3G- Is that a hibiscus in your last photo? Gorgeous.
yup, perennial Hibiscus...I have maybe 10 of them scattered throughout the gardens. They make great focal plants.
Beautiful. Do you save seeds? ;)
Yes, we do ^_^
Good answer. LOL!
What can I trade to get some of those gorgeous plants?
Ok I sent 2 replies and neither posted....weird....
Lee-Anne I LOVE that phlox and monarda mix
Is this thread like the "long view" from last year?
Beautiful!! Zone envy, are those Rhododendrons behind them?
Yes.
Too bad hubby hadn't mowed the lawn yet...look at all that clover...yikes!
Polly, what's the grass you have there?
The green one is miscanthus Graccilimus, the white one calamagrostis Overdam.
Trade you either or both for a piece of that iris, when you divide, LOL.
cyndie - i am going to reneg on posting pictures of my beds - i looked at pics and realized i have made wholesale changes to all i had pic's of last fall - so what i'll do is post a before and after photo later this year. of course a lot of the plants will be small since they are new.
Well Wha, we will be interested in what you do with it. Please post your progress.
Polly, will do a trade with either as soon as the snow is gone. LOL Let you know. Since we are getting a foot of snow tomorrow. LOL. That iris has been hauled up here from NH. It spreads really quickly.
Sounds good Cyndie. We usually aren't out of the snow until April.
Do you know the name of the iris? Not that I care.
Wha- looking forward to seeing your new stuff. You are such a hard worker.
Polly- I really don't know what the iris is. I bought it at a garden club sale several years ago. It was labeled black iris, but I don't think it is. At least not in its present form. I used to have hundreds of iris when I lived in the midwest and they mixed. I got all kinds of crazy colors. That's probably what happened to this. I really like it though. They are one of my favorite flowers.
ge1836- Pretty bed. That's a great idea with the coleus. I never think about putting it in my perennial bed. I usually have it in my planters on the deck. will have to do that with all the extras I end up with.
i am jealous of joann's beds they look great - i've moved so many mature shrubs to make space for the new that it will be years before they fill in.
ok here is one bed that runs along the front top hill and gets heavy afternoon sun - notice all the purple flowers - brain cramp right now on what they are - they are the plant that victor did not like because they fell out to the ground and left a "hole" in the middle - they are all going to be dug out. one in the middle already has been replaced by a witch hazel. some of the jm's i have coming that can take sun will go here as well. there is also a radiant rose kousa dogwood that may find itself transplanted up here.
another bed in front of the house on top - big rock seat surrounded by echi's and 4 viburnum in back - in the back middle of the Vib's is a purple smoke bush that needs to grow up - i've planted 3 hardy hibiscus in back of the seat - there is also sedum in front of the echi's - need to bring up lots of dirt to expand the bed to move the front two vibs and create a walkway to the seat - sedum struggle here - underneath is our septic system and the builder was generous in providing a solid 3" of top soil - so everything grown here need a raised bed and lots of water
here is a bed in the backyard - i have moved the dwarf blue spruce to a new location and replaced with a satomi dogwood - in front the canterbury bells are gone and replaced with three autumn joy sedum.
in the back of the bed are phlox - peonies that have struggled a lot here so i did dig everything out of the bed this year and add a foot or so of good dirt and with the trees lost it will see a lot more sun. the two mounds with white flowers are actually pink flowers with blue foliage - not sure what those are either.
