Bunny HHHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!!

(Zone 7b)

Well my 2 adult bunnys i bought couple weeks are sneezing and seem congested ""I'm SAD""

I had noticed the male had a ruuny nose this past week but thought it was the hay they have in their cage.
My bunny book says its snuffles and to use terramycin i teaspoon to a gallon of water for 2 weeks.
They weren't sick when i got them and i've never had snuffles here so......
The symptoms are runny nose and sneezing and the female kind of coughed but they both breath normally.

I looked it up on the web and some sites said antibiotics wouldn't cure it while others said it might. Some said it was a simple cold while still others said most rabbits die. About 6 sites said to put them down because they would never get better:(......

What should i do?????:(

{{{{{Huggs}}}}}}} Go with the medical treatment, if it will not hurt and may help.

Clarkson, KY

I'm with Wren. Treat to the best of your ability. That awful strange weather may have gotten to them. I'm tempted to suggest chicken noodle soup -warm green tea...

Give them the meds. It can't hurt to try. Sure hope it works.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

My dwarf bun had the sniffles once and I gave her the antibiotics that the vet gave me (it was many years ago so I don't know what it was) but she was fine and lived to be 14, so I think it is definitely worth a try. I think it's better when you start the antibiotics early. Sending healing thoughts to your bunnies.

(Zone 7b)

OH! Thanks everybody i just love my new Blue Eyed Bunnys and the sites that said put them down got to me:(

I will go now and mix the Meds i have terramycin already that i was going to use for the pox but didn't.
Thanks Claire so glad to know your bunny had it and got well.

Those sites made it sound so bleak it even said it could paralyze them "sometimes i think theres to much info on the web":(

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Let us know how it goes.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Sorry to hear they have the snuffles. I will be of no help in this department, but I just thought I'd send out a hug.

(Zone 7b)

Well i got their antibiotics mixed and in their bottles and turned on their lights so they would be warm.

Going to bed GoodNight ^_^

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Oh Harmony, I sure hope they will be okay! {{{HUGS}}}

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

How are the "Big Jelly Beans" doing tonight?

(Zone 7b)

They are doing okay i think i caught it at a good time. I noticed it last night when i was putting my gift together Ahmmm
The female was really sneezeing and sounded a little congested it's been so cold i haven't been as observent as i usally am.
I'm pretty sure they will get over it i hope so i been wanting some blue eyed bunnys for years and i would hate to lose them.

(The gift is in need of a little paint and TLC but DHs heart was in the right place)

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

So glad for the good news.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I really hope they pull through. I know its been much cloder than normal.
Soooo...the brooder needs repair? Or just putting together?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I'm so glad Harmony - catching something like that early seems to be key to a good recovery. I'm pleased you didn't follow the advice of the sites that said to put them down. Yikes! I wish I had been here to catch that virus early with my birds.

(Zone 7b)

Yes the "gift" was actually a used 3 tier rabbit cages don't want to give the wrong impression.
My friend had mentioned it to me before and i had seen it like 5 years ago. He sold all his chickens and everything he had and he still had this and i was assumeing it looked the same.
So when my DH said he wanted to get it for me i was thrilled i could put my bittys in there or something.
Well it was taken apart and was in several pieces and had some rust and lots of chipped paint. It also was covered in leaves and dust he had to move the leaves to find the parts.
It wasn't as shiny and perfect as i remembered *sigh* and thats my gift i think i will take a pic of it how it is and post it here.
But i Love it and with a little TLC it will be shiny and new looking soon and this is the first chicken thing my DH has ever bought me so i'm very pleased.

Soon as i down load it there will be a pic.

(Zone 7b)

It looks good in this pic wish it look that good here.

Oh Har----it's theoretically beautiful----and just think of what all you can do with it!!!

(Zone 7b)

This is one of the cages up close you can see the rust on the bottom wire. I bought some primer for rusty metal last night and some Fusion paint for the bottom trays.
I will have to remove the rust before i put on the primer then paint but it's going to look good and come in real handy this breeding season.

And remember that after you clean it up and repaint it you will know that there is no viruses any where in it.

(Zone 7b)

There wouldn't be any virus's my friend was a breeder who just got tired of all the work of chickens.

He really raised some beautiful bantys i bought some from him and he had really healthy stock.

Clarkson, KY

well. UPSET. THAT's what IIII am... ol' rusty rotten cages and Harmony STILL makes 'em look good when SHE takes the picture....snitsnitsnitsnitSNIT!!!

(Zone 7b)

I don't know why everyone thinks i take such good pictures it's the camera not the person behind the camera.
Grow they only have a little rust but a whole lot of dust when i get done with them they will look good as new.
I really like the idea of more room more room more chickens LOL

Here's a pic of my camera it's not fancy and it's even got a few scratches where i dropped it in the dirt.

ROFLOL! You guys crack me up!
They may need some work but they will do the trick. I was just wondering. Are there trays for under each individual unit? I was picturing being the peeps on the bottom covered in poop. hehehe Okay, yes, I need to get a life. Sorry. My mind just roams. I am actually suppose to be reading Macro Economics. Can you blame me for being on here? LOL

(Zone 7b)

Yes they have trays under them and i really like that i usally have to sweep up the poop now i can just add shaveings and dump it when its full.

(Zone 7b)

Went and check my bunnys the female is still snuffling so i gave them some fresh antibiotics. I've been mixing fresh everyday to know they getting what they need.

Grow i just sprayed down my old rusty pens with the hose and they look a whole lot better. I'll try and get a BAD pic of them for you LOL!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

LOL! Is a bad pic possible? We will see! hahaha

Humansville, MO(Zone 6a)

Harmonyplace Pen G or LA 200 will help if this doesn't work But they should recover this real cold and then warm has been hard on rabbits this year We've been losing a few more than normal the last month or so due to the weather There is always some lost when you have 700 to 1000 in the barn The reason that the books are so hard on snuffels is that it inherited trait and a weakness you can't have in a big operation

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

"....when you have 700 to 1000 in the barn". dave719 I bet you have the bestest Easter ^_^

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Bet you don't like fried rabbit, either!!LOL!

(Zone 7b)

Dave I'm useing terramycin is that going to cure them?

So will these be carriers when they are well and pass it to their young?
I have 3 other rabbits to think about and a young one in my house what do you sudjest i do?

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

I'd make sure to continue whatever treatment you are using a week past the disappearance of ALL symptoms.

I suspect what Dave means by an inherited trait is that the immune system is weak, not that they will be carriers. Immune system function is heritable from parents to babies... so you'd have a line of bunnies prone to getting the bug whenever they were exposed to it, rather than a line of bunnies whose immune system could fight it off (as my dog sneezes boogers all over me... eeeyooo)

Clarkson, KY

Har...Since you don't seem to know a bad pic when you see one....lol...look and learn!!

Thumbnail by grownut
(Zone 7b)

Jay so if they will pass this weakness on to their young is there anyway to improve their immune system when their young.
I will be breeding these and i want their young healthier than they are?

Grow i too can take a bad pic (headless chicken anyone?)

Thanks not bad Cousin Nut. 'Peeper in the Mist with Vase'.
Dear Harmony, that's just way too funky weird, ok?
I made up a new word for these 'special' pics and pencilled it into my dictionary: Photosnarf. (Sorry Claire)

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

If you're really committed to starting with weak stock, then I'd outcross them to stronger stock, not to each other. That's the only way to improve a genetic weakness.

I'd for sure double check this with Dave, he's obviously got way more knowledge... he also may have strong line bunnies to cross to. =o)
