Freebies from Garden Gate

I am pleased to announce a new exclusive offer for Dave's Garden members! Garden Gate magazine has partnered with us to send you a free (no obligation) issue of their most recent magazine plus a free book, 108 Easy-Going, Easy-Growing Flowers.

More info here:

http://davesgarden.com/coreg/gg.php

Note: This is a limited offer currently only available for up to 1,000 United States DG members. (As of April 7th, 2009 it's back up and available indefinitely)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks Garden Gate and Dave ^_^

North Augusta, ON

Dang!

(Zone 1)

Thanks Garden Gate & Dave's Garden!

I can't wait for my free issue and free book. I think GG is one I used to subscribe to but let the subscription lapse a few years ago for some reason ... maybe when my Mom was sick and I was gone a lot. If it's the one I'm remembering, it is a really great magazine ... nice format and great photo's and information! And, I will subscribe again!

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Not fair. At least they should give us the chance paying for the postage.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Ursula, I went to their website, and saw the same offer there. I noticed a little link for "Outside US" for the free samples, but it looks like the book at least is only offered to US and Canada. It wasn't clear if you'd still get the sample issue or not. Here's the link, if you want to check into it!

https://w1.buysub.com/pubs/WS/GDT/GDT_sub_freepre_canada.jsp?cds_page_id=26266&cds_mag_code=GDT&id=1232720173004&lsid=90230812110063604&vid=5

Looks like subscriptions for outside US are $30 for one year (6 issues), $50 for two (12 issues). For US, it is $20 for one year, $30 for two.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Thanks, Bookerc1, but it does not work.

I wonder why they provide the worldwide options ......

I would have been willing to pay for the free issue/book postage.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I was surprised to get an online bill today for my subscription when the first issue won't arrive for 3-5 weeks. I'd kind of like to see the preview issue first. ;)

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I think this will be the same situation as on the Fine Gardening free issue where the billing department sends things out right away, but the free issue has to wait for the next issue to publish. But you don't need to pay until you see your free issue (or even pay at all if you decide you don't like the free issue enough to subscribe)

Lula, GA(Zone 7b)

Badseed; me too and I agree they're a little presumptuous.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Probably computer generated.

Definitely computer generated.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

And it's just the way magazines work--for pretty much every magazine in the world if you order a trial issue the exact same thing will happen where the bill shows up before your free issue does. Since it was clear in the offer that we're not under any obligation to subscribe I don't think it's a big deal, just hold onto the invoice until you've read the free issue and then decide whether you want to pay or not.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

It's not a complaint, just an FYI. I figure someone else is going to get the same email and head right back here. LOL

I didn't sign up for the other offer. I didn't figure it really fit my lifestyle.

Fresno, CA(Zone 9b)

And here I am, Badseed! Just trying to figure out where/when I'd ordered Garden Gate Magazine. Now I know.

I, too, will await my free issue to review it first.

Thanks again, Dave.

I just noticed at the link posted by Bookerc1: https://w1.buysub.com/pubs/WS/GDT/GDT_sub_freepre_canada.jsp?cds_page_id=26266&cds_mag_code=GDT&id=1233666229472&lsid=90340701203019639&vid=2 in the fine print it says the Free 108 page book "Easy- Going, Easy- Growing Flowers" is for Canada addresses only! Sure hope we get it with our free issue of the magazine.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Our offer in Dave's first post clearly says US only so I'm sure you'll get the book. Also, buysub's link was to the international subscription page on Garden Gate, and Canada is the only international country where they'll send the book which is why it says Canada only there. If you scroll down that page a bit you'll notice that the offers you can choose on that page are only Canada and international, and there's a small link that says "US residents click here" which takes you to a page with the same free book offer for the US.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

I posted that link specifically for an international member who was disappointed that the DG offer was for US members only. The offer through DG is only for US, but they do offer it to Canadians on their website. Of course, they'll let you SUBSCRIBE from anywhere internationally, but won't send you a free issue and book first, and the postage is pretty high!

Just thought I'd clarify why that link said "Canada only." I got to it by clicking on a link for "International subscribers."

I got my "free" copies.
The next day I got a bill for $30 for a years subscription.

I called and canceled it with no problems.

I wonder how many folks just go ahead and pay it?

Paul

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I got a copy of "backyard living" mag this week. One of the best I have ever seen. Don't know how I got it. Did we have a free copy from DG?

Christi

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

No, haven't seen any offers from them on here, just Fine Gardening and Garden Gate. Maybe you subscribe to some other magazine that's published by the same people and they're sending free samples to try and get people to subscribe to some of their other magazines?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you. I will track it from some other source. I really like it though.

Flemingsburg, KY(Zone 6a)

My sister is a subscriber of Backyard Living
She told me she got a coupon so she could send it to someone else.
So I get the Backyard LIving for 1 year for FREE.
I love it.

I got my free issue and the extra magazine on flowers two days ago, about two days after I got the invoice which I promptly wrote refused on and sent it back. After seeing the magazine thought I think it would be a good investment! It's very informative on plants and their cold/heat hardiness. Almost as much good info as i get on DG!!!!

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

I got the bill too and just pitched it. One of the things I have found with "free issue" offers is that if you subscribe via the bill that is automatically generated you do not actually get a free issue. The issue they sent you is counted as part of your subscription. If I enjoy the free issue I may go ahead and subscribe. There are always coupons in the issues you see at the book and grocery stores for a certain percentage off.

One thing in their favor is that they did make this available through DG and in my book that earned them some "brownie points" so it may tip me in favor of subscribing.

Any other gardening magazines listening??

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

So, maybe I am the recipient of a free year from someone? That would be nice.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Usually if it's a gift subscription they'll tell you that's what it is--if they just sent it to you then it's probably just a free issue hoping to get you interested.

(Zone 1)

... or, if your mail person is like ours - the magazine could have been for a neighbor. We've been at this address for almost 34 years (Cedar St) and our mail still gets delivered quite often to the next street over (Cypress St) ... same house number! We get their mail on occasion too. We have had the same mailman for years ... but it always happens when he is off and a sub is filling in. I guess they just don't pay attention ... both streets begin with "C", LOL.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

LOL, I met two new friends that way. Our street names are totally different, but the house numbers are the same. The only problem now is that one couple is retired and travels, our mail sometimes doesn't show up until they return and pick it up at the post office.

Got the April issue in today's mail. I have gone through it twice already. Garden Gate is very relevant to me and I'll be subscribing. I might even be ordering one or two of the new plants for 2009 featured on pages 18-25, recognized some of the suppliers from Garden Watchdog :-)
The magazine seemed kind of 'thin' at first but they sure packed a ton of beauty & info into 50 pages.
Thanks for the free preview!

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

It has always been the one garden magazine I order if I can only afford one, and I've kept them for several years. Any other magazine gets torn apart and put into the recycle bin.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I think it's thin because they don't have as many pages of advertising as some of the other ones I subscribe to. Content-wise it's got just as much if not more.

It is a keeper for sure!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Got mine...and I kind of liked it too but we are in serious cut back mode right now so will have to pass on it. But I will hang on to this copy!

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

Got the magazine but not the easy growing flower book. Have not had a chance to look through it yet.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Has anyone received the free book too? I got the free magazine, but not the book. I'm wondering if that might be coming later.

no book at my house. still loving this magazine though

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

No Book - just the mag... nice but not my personal cup of tea - loved the photos.

Bardstown, KY(Zone 6a)

I got the book with my mag in the same cover. (Maybe they think I'm flower-challenged!)

Doug

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

No book, just the magazine with attached offer to buy the book.
