I have been getting some d-mails wondering about a spring roundup in College Station. I have no problem with organizing this again, however I may need some help when it gets closer as this will be a very busy semester for me. I am hoping to defend and graduate at the end of the summer if possible, and we have a lot of projects lined up.
The first step will be to choose a date and get a pavilion reserved. In the past it has been in April, but this doesn't have to be. Please post here what dates work best for you so we can try and hammer this down.
Thanks, Kim
spring CS roundup
Easter is April 12 and Mother's Day is May 10. So any other week-end might be a good time. Personally, I like late April or early May because I have more growing and ready to share. We are flexible, however, and hope we can make several of the spring RU's this year.
Congrats, Kim, on being so close to graduation!
Yes congrats to Kim. However, you don't leave us when that happens.:) Since your parents live in Tx now, maybe you will try to stay nearby?
I hope I can make it to the RU this year, even though I still haven't planted everything I brought home from last years RU. I think I have at least figured out where I want to put it all.
APRIL IS FINE WITH ME TOO. :)
Closer to May is my choice. After all the cold we have gone thru I don't want to risk getting cold again. The last RU I attended in CS in April was a bit cool, for me. I hate wind and cold. I am hoping that after all I'v been thru I can get to at least this one RU if not others, also.

Oh, I'm so excited to see this thread! I will be there if at all possible. I know that I have to go to Denver to work, but don't have the dates nailed down yet. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I'm excited at the prospect of meeting more DG'ers this spring!
I propose the weekend before Mother's Day. Either the 2nd or 3rd is okay for me.
Someone give some input so we can set the date soon so we don't collide with other RU's.
Charlene
I would like to come, especially because I get to see friends from farther south that usually don't make it to the DFW area. I would also like to help set the date, however with all the plant sales that I am a part of around here, I really cant say which date, although the 2d or 3rd of May sounds like it might be clear, but please don't set it to accommodate me because as of right now I really don't know for sure.
I don't know if that helps, but that is where i am right now.
Josephine.
You guys name the date and I'll be there! lol
Anne
Thanks for all the replies! Sorry I didn't get back on here sooner, was up visiting the family. We lost my grandfather last week, I was actually at a meeting in San Diego at the time. He was 95, and it was just his time to go. But that doesn't make things any easier.
The first weekend in May would be right at the end of the semester and would be ideal for me. Thanks for all the congrats, I am excited to be finally getting to the end. However, it is now time for me to figure out where to next. I would like to stay in Texas, but at this time I have no idea where I will end up. I hope to get a post-doctoral position, the next step in the ladder to becoming a professor which is my long-term goal.
Any other thoughts on the first weekend in May? Saturday or Sunday? Typically we have it on Saturday but I'll leave it up to all of you. Thanks everyone!
:) Kim
I would love to be able to make it to the CS RU this year. I can't promise that it will ultimately be feasible for us to attend, but I do know that Saturday would be much more likely than Sunday. That way we have Sunday to recover & get the new plants situated before going back to work on Monday.
Just my 2 cents...but don't plan it around me.
I vote for Saturday. We have church obligations on Sundays. :-)
Saturday May 2nd sounds good to me.
I think having it on a Saturday makes it much easier for most people. I have my fingers crossed that we can be there.
For us, Saturday is the better day. Sunday is for church.
Ann
OK. Here is the ultimate newbie question: What is a round up? Can anyone come? What is your favorite part?
Thanks!

A round up is a gathering of folks, mostly from here, but you're welcome to bring a friend. We share plants, eat, talk a lot, and laugh even more. We hope you can come!
A round up is for DGers and their families and friends - kind of like a family reunion. We bring all kinds of seeds, plants, etc etc etc and food and meet somewhere - like somewhere in College Station , a park is good - and we trade or give to people who don't have much to trade lots and lots of plants, etc. We eat, talk, eat, talk, have door prizes and talk and eat some more. This all takes about 6 hrs. or so. You get there the best way you can - drive or share a ride - some meet for breakfast - and if you come from a long distance sometimes you camp someplace or have a motel room. You meet lots of people you have talked with on DG so you have faces to put w/names (real and DG names) and learn a lot about all these various plants. It is a fun time, completely informal (don't wear your diamonds and good clothes - shorts or jeans and tennis shoes are best). This is one of the best things about belong to Dave's Garden. Everyone from little fellows and dogs to old fogies like me has a good time. I just sit and listen in awe to those people who know so much and learn so much. Come along! You'll have a ball!
Ann
Ann and Marylyn, I couldn't have said better.
How about we set the date for May 2nd and see how many can make it on that day? If there are not too many conflicts then we can start to make plans.
Charlene
I like it!! But please don't let me take any plants home with me - there isn't any room for them. Sigh.
Are you coming Sheila?
Patrob - thanks for the dmail blast letting me know. At this moment, May 2 looks good for me. Ceejay - too funny. Like you'll really be able to resist!
That's why I need help.
I am fine with any date..... Looking forward to another get together....
Trishann
May is good as far as I can see. It would only be a conflict if the Arlington RU was that week; it is my local one and I do want to make it.
CJ....you have dmail.
Ceejay - I'll help you if you help me, LOL!
may 2 sounds great!
Ann
May 2nd will be great for us as well!
Lee & Dee
May 2nd is good too.
Y'all can enable me all you want, I'm easy.
LOL!
March 20 is when our area sees the last probable frost. So we should wait till after then, for those that don't have greenhouse room. As far as moon phase goes, Sunday the 30th would be perfect for planting so I vote for Saturday the 29th of March! Apart from the moon, I have not checked the other astrological aspects, that stuff is bunk! :) March 29th might be a bit early for plants, so it would probably be more of a seed swap.
May 2 would be fine too. This way we can grow a bit of seed out for it. May 2 is still just after a new moon, so it will be a good time to plant!
Saturday for sure though!
Bob
Haven't been to a round up but sure would like to meet some of you fellow Texans. May 2 will work for me. One question though... I have 4 children who are very inquisitive (read nosey) and my older daughter (14) is an Aspie (Aspergers is like a really high functioning autism, hers is mostly just noticable in social situations). Does anyone have children? Are they ok to bring or is this something that I should leave them with a friend for? I won't want to bring them if noone else has children to bring. Just trying to get the atmosphere and don't want to wreck yalls fun. :)
The pavilion that we used last year is in a park, a big park. And there are always children, it's a family gathering. So bring'em on we'll corrupt them too!!!
Anne
We usually bring our bunnies (bunnies= daughters), too. Both of them have high-functioning autism, too, so we'll have more to chit chat about than "just" plants. :-)
OK good to hear that I am not the only one with little people to consider :). Sounds fun! Like Sheila I hope it doesn't conflict with Arlington RU.
So Kim are you going to call and check that May 2nd is available? IF not, perhaps the next weekend?
Ok! It sounds like Saturday, May 2 is the consensus. I can call to check on the date. However, they will not guarantee availability until a reservation is made. Here is a link to the pavilions that we can reserve: http://www.cstx.gov/home/index.asp?page=657 . In the past we have had the RU at the Southwood and Central pavilions. Does anyone have a preference as to which one we should get?
Also, I will need to make the deposit and payment when I make the reservation. If anyone is willing to help with this as we have done before, that would be greatly appreciated. The deposit is $150 and the rental fee is $200. In the past we have asked for contributions to the fee at the RU, usually this is only about $5. Then I am able to reimburse those who help with the reservation.
C'mon spring!
Kim
I prefer Southwood because the playground is attached, instead of down the park road, and I can keep an eye on the bunnies while I chat. But if everyone else likes Central, Charles and I will take turns watching the bunnies. :-)
Thank you Kim, for taking this on again. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. Have we decided on May 2nd then?
