Streptocarpella? I love mine-- always blooming. Just got a d-mail from Kathy Ann--a lot of us know her and have traded with & or bought plants from her-- her GH burned down!! OMG!! gonna go find the thread and read up on it
January 2009 BINGO
yup its a streptocarpella, pretty one too, sorry to hear about the greenhouse, burning down
OH NO!! She is a really sweet person, and generous as well...I am so sorry to hear that...it must be the month of things burning down. My neighbors horse just got burned to death at the trainers barn, they also a friend of ours, had 9 horses to die in the fire and one filly that made it out by kicking the burnt wall out......then not long ago my DG buddy Bobby, he nearly killed himself from smoldering smoking ashes from his wood stove..he went to bed and thought they were out and woke up with the ambulance there, his roommate came home just in time, they said a few minutes longer and he would have been gone.....such sad news....we all need to be prayerful for those who experience such sad and horrible times....it can happen to anyone....
Thanks for the id...it is a pretty one...any advice...mostly on the lighting...does it need a lot or little....as this is my first one...I think..lol...have tried so many different plants...but I do know it is my baby, as it is my favorite color.
I have horses, and my skin just crawls at the thought of the poor innocent animals trapped, burned to death! AWFUL!
OT
I am ready to start on something new, I have 4 AV's and 2 Phal. that are happy campers, any suggestions?
Oh no, I'm new here, but still, it breaks my heart to hear of all the fires!! In winter, with the cold, the heaters, woodstoves, fireplaces there are a lot more fires. Please everyone, be safe and take extra precaution, fires are a terrible thing, we had one when I was a kid, no one hurt and the fire dept. saved my dogs. Just take extra steps to double check everything before you leave, or ESPECIALLY go to sleep.
Ok, no numbers for me today!! But better for Stovall to have them, she needs the pick me up!!! Good Luck, but beware, I may still have that winning card! LOLOLOL
Tommie, your new plants look really nice!! I went onto Dave's website, I do not have any Sinnigerias, love love that orange zinger I thinks its called, looks like march may HAVE to be a date, know a good place for lunch????
OH Yeah----I saw those on the shelves--My next ones will be Country Girl and the micro mini white one--forgot the name. What kinda food you like? there are several good Mexican restaurants--did Olive Garden yesterday--we will find something. btw DD is an exec with doubletree--if you need to overnight--she can get you a deal. I will have to go to St Louis before long--maybe we can get together there too?
If you get to St. Louis and have the time, of course we can meet!!! Do you have to come at a certain time? If not, I will check out whats going on at the Missouri Bot Gardens if you'd like!! We could meet there, and there are near The Hill, GREAT Italian food!!!!! And I'm not picky, I like it all!! What ever you think is good is fine by me!! My sister has a cabin in Pittsburg. MO., if I get that close and don't see her, may be a family fued!! she lives in Colo. Springs.
YIPEEE!!!!!!!!!!
I finally got one. Maybe now I'll be on a roll. LOL
I'm so sorry to hear of the greenhouse fire. How devastating. Between the freezing of one greenhouse to the burning of the other, it breaks my heart for those who lost their plants. I pray that there will be no more disasters the rest of this winter. We have enough heartache and don't need any more. I know, that when I feel down in the dumps, I go and play with my plants, either to water, look for buds, flowers or bugs (better not be any) and just be amount the beauty.
Keep safe everyone!
do check out what is going on-- all the better if I can plan the trip, but I HAVE to go pick up something I got off ebay and dd's friend is storing for me.
Check out: www.mobot.com
its an orchid show until March, but that way you can see whats there. If we meet in march, I could bring it to you, if its big, I do have a truck or yeah, and a trailer!! OL
wellllll---wringer washer....
yeah, that would take the truck huh?!!!
My new, yet old baby..Gran, I did something crazy today...I took back the mare I gave away last year. I hate mares, and well, I just could not help myself though cuz she looks just like my gelding that died a couple years ago. There is something about her that I fell in love with....she looks terrible in this pic cuz she had bite marks all over her, she is wormy as all get out judging from her gut and her hooves were HORRIBLE...all have thrush and my farrier was trimming one and it started gushing blood...poor baby...I feel so bad about giving her away now. I know the people did not mistreat her intentionally, they just kept getting horse after horse and now they have like 5 in one small area....not good....so anyways...here she is the apple of my eye...though I could use some suggestions for a name....I never did like the name baby for her...at least not a horse....she is far from being a baby....she has a cowkick too,,, that should be fun to break her of...yeah...guess I better get my boots and gloves out....she is ornery to boot so I have a job ahead of me...well it will help keep my mind off of other things I have to deal with....
She looks like a candy cause shes a sweetie
JIM
(ps thats what i named my horse that looks a lot like here, that was 25 years ago at least
I think Belle--make a beauty from the beast. yeah the washer will take a truck-- that's what i drive--just need 2 more tires & a tune-up before I can make the trip.
Nice horse..I'd call her Lucky Lady. She's lucky you took her back. ^_^
Pssstt,When you need somebody to clean up the field give me a call,I could use some of that fertilizer.LOL.
Stovall - Regarding the 'cow kicking'
Try a thick soft rope around her pastern, hold the rope the whole time, not tight, wear gloves. Let her kick, follow her movements with the rope retaining some sort of contact. Slowly take control of the leg until she lets you move it all around with the rope, before trying to work her leg by hand, then stay REAL close to that leg with your hand on the hock or fetlock so you are moving with the leg and not at the end of the movement. All this may take 30 min. or days. Patients will pay off.
I have 8 horses now, and have owned/ridden since I was knee high, I'm 45.
Why not call her Apple?
extra bonus call:
29. Episcia Strawberry Patch
Ah, I got it...Candy Apple Belle!! That is just to cool!! Thanks and each suggestion was used!! Gran...did you say Ringer washer????? I have a funny for ya...I remember being really little, my mother was washing clothes in one and got her breast stuck in it somehow...it really rung it hard, it was pure black for a couple months....it is funny cuz I am the only one in my family that is small, I am talking they are all Double D's, and I always been picked on and have picked back that I at least don't have the troubles they do with theirs...lol.....Sonoita....I will be trying that...I am gonna take a whip and put a sack on it and sack her out really good, then will get deeper. She is just so clumsy right now and will quit literally walk on top of you. So I figured using the whip at a distance will give me more room and her room to act stupid if she is gonna...which you know she will.
Jannich, it is already loaded...come on down...lol...my daughter and I get in "Poop" fights all the time. She will pick up an old hard apple and chunk it at me....it is so funny cuz some people are like EWWW, that is so gross, but lets think of this...they only eat veggies so it is cleaner than most peoples poo....and does surely not smell as bad! Horses have a smell about them that is not like any other animal...specially their muzzles...they smell so good.....
When she gets more used to being handled, I am gonna take the lead rope or lunge line and drape it all over her and run it around her legs and kinda rub it up and down..you know what I mean. Well everyone have a safe and warm night!
Thank goodness for the bonus!! Got one today!! HOOTY HOOT!!!!
I think thats a great name for your new/old baby!!!! And there is a lady I think somewhere in Colo that makes garden ornaments out of apples! I think she presses it into a rabbit form of some type, lets it set up and as it rains, it fertilizes your garden!!! I think its a great idea! No poop here, would have to go across the street, but I know they would not mind, the have 7 and now 2 cows!!
G'evening everyone! Just getting home from being out of town for the weekend, and catching up on my bingo calls... I have three so far!
Wanted to share my adventurous weekend with you! Had plans to go visit my Mom in southwestern Virginia for the weekend 'cause her birthday was this past week. Knew it was going to be cold, but as long as it wasn't snowing, we were all game. Thursday night... of all times... the heater in my truck decides to stop working! *yay for me!* I could see my breath while driving the 30 miles all the way to and from work! So Friday, I put truck in shop for new thermostat and water pump *again yay for me* and rent a nice warm car for our trip home! Hubby and I and the girls make out way down to Mom's Friday night... good trip, get in at reasonable time... all is good! It's cold now! Don't let anyone fool you about that... it was 4 degrees when we got in, with expected low of 0 by morning. We go to bed... we all have electric blankets, and are all cozy warm. My Mom's house is one of those old places that's hard to heat... drafty and cold spots... but hey, I grew up there and it''s all good... you get used to it! Wake up in middle of night thinkin' "Gosh it's cold! Think I'll turn the heater in our bedroom up!" Walking across the bedroom to turn heater up and running in to the dang thing should've been my first clue! Heater didn't click on... Hhmmmm... Uh-Oh!!! We don't have power! I've done thrown a breaker with the extra heater and have to go to basement to throw it back on. Oh no, it's not that! Nnoooo! Can't be that simple! No.... the entire county and two others all the way to Franklin County has no power!!!! And yep! It's now -2 degrees outside! *yay for all of us* So I wake up hubby and we find every spare blanket in the house and throw them on the sound-asleep girls, making little wig-wams out of their beds and bodies! They slept right through! Wake my Mom and she and I get all the faucets turned on to keep the water from freezing! So it's now 4:30 in the morning and the house is about 45 degrees inside, except for the living room area where the gas stove is. The electricity didn't come back on until 11:30am Saturday. Thank God for IHOP!!! From that point on, the weekend was great and actually warmed up to "normal" winter temps of 20's and 30's.
Ya gotta love it!
Yeah-- wringer--and funny thing --I NEED it--our storage tanks/water supply aren't big enough to run an auto washer--figured out 70 gal per load with that one--aaargh. (I have a 210 gal storage tank for the house and 2--200 gal tanks I use to refill it)I grew up using a wringer--never had enough breast to get caught--but ran my waist length hair into when I was about 15--was able to back it out before it was pulled out. VA--camping indoors--too much fun!! Been there and done that one too--cooking on the fireplace--beans take years!! So glad that the power came back on so you could enjoy your visit!! Laura good luck with your horse-- I am not a large animal person--they KNOW they intimidate me--horses are SO smart, cows are pretty crafty too. See ya all in tha am-- be sure to concentrate hard on the #'s you want so I will pick them out of the jar in the am;)
Gran, have you considered a front loading washer? I think they're supposed to use a lot less water.
(Go, Steelers!)
VA,
Oh my goodness you poor thing!! It's so amazing that you have found the humor in the situation so quickly.
Laura,I hope your sweet horse is A-OK.
Gran,I didn't have the build to get caught in the wringer either, but now that I'm old and gray,I'm kinda thankful about that.LOL.
When are you gonna start callin' my picks? ^_^
Lynn
va, oh what a weekend you had.hope that does'ent happen to often for you. lol
laura, what a pretty horse, hope she does well for you.
gran, a wringer washer? have'ent seen one of them in years, but whatever works is my motto. lol
bonnie
Critter-- a front loader is a great idea-- right now we don't have a place for it--A wringer on the other hand can sit anywhere since you fill it with a hose and empty with same. This is just temporary-- i HATE laundormats and we also are going to upgrade our water system---it all takes time and $$--you know if you have one, you don't have the other To keep this thread small for dial-up users we will be moving frequently--so today we are going here:

LOL,Laura I've had many of those plop fights with my sister when we were younger on the farm.I wish I could come get some of that horse pucky it's the best fertilizer for a garden. That's a great name for your horse!
aww Karan, what a weekend you had girl.I'm.glad it turned out good.
