yes DD is in spfld--but March looks good--jlmk;) I just talked to Dave---he said that the last weekend in Feb there is a show & sale in Tulsa--I REALLY want to go--(but have already made plans to go with my good friend to the flower show in Little Rock Feb 27). Dave also said he won't let me visit tomorrow if I don't give Jim a hard time today...

Um....it is cold here too!! Not wanting to rub it in...but mostly only at night...in the day my greenhouse stays a toasty 60 degrees up to 80, depending on the outside weather. Today was kinda cold as was yesterday making it into the 45-50's range outside my plastic home...still toasty inside though.. :) and some wonder how I have so many plants...well lets see, I hate being in the house, and I hate cold weather...so I stay cooped up inside the gh all winter long, and dread summer when it is unbearable in there. I think in the last two days I have done nearly 12 trays of cuttings (at least 75 per tray) and have potted up at least 150 begonias and several other plants. I am a propagating nut! My friend Patsy tells people not to stand still around me to long or I will figure a way of cloning them as well...lol...
Well I have only got one so far....oh Gran, have you got the rosary vine yet? Got someone who has it and can get some for ya to ship with your package...jlmk...ok all I will be sending plant survival prayers to all those who live in colder climates....I just don't see how y'all do it! I would be so cold I would not be able to move, much less have the drive to get out of bed! Hubby wants to move me up to Illinois, NOT HAPPENING!! There would be a really ILL Noise coming from that state if he drug me up there to live....everyone in the whole U.S.A and parts of Canada would hear my weeping.....and for all you snow birds...there are some pretty nice chunks of land down here where cold is coldest at 28 degrees at night.....which with just one big heater keeps my GH at a cozy 45 low... Gran I found a pic of my son and I from like 2yrs ago...I seen your mugshot elsewhere on DG...to lazy to dmail it to ya...besides I do chat occasionally with a few of ya...there's my mug!! take care everyone and don't be sticking your tongues on any poles...lol...I did that once when I was in Michigan...I think I am still a few layers of skin shy on my tongue....
Cute pic Laura-- you don't look any older than your son!!!
Today's Bingo Calls:

Morning!
Have a good trip Jim.We will miss you.Your in for a temperature shock when you come down south. That will be nice after the hard winter you have been having.Better bring some shorts and flip flops.LOL.
Great picture Stovall_Gardens.Your greenhouse sounds great.Do you have to run A/C during the summer?
Hi thanks for the pic compliments! Gran, I really needed that...feeling my age here lately...may not look it but durn sure feeling it!! I had my son young and all throughout his life we have always had people thinking he is my little brother. Yep, Jim if ur headed down south better bring some beach weather wear!! It is actually cold here but not compared to other places.
Jannich, nope, don't run A/C in summer months, I open the ends up and have a huge fan that pushes the air from one end to the other....still gets up to 110 in there at times....I don't keep many plants in there during those months, they are all outside during that time...I mainly keep the tropicals and do some propagating in there during the summer.
Whoo Hoo...I got three now!!!
It's been quite chilly here in central FL. Last night it was down to 39 deg. I've got all the hoya and orchids that are outside, covered up with quilted matress covers. I brought in some smaller rhips. and orchid cactus, but don't have room in house for the rest of them, after getting hooked on gessies. LOL The rest of the plants are on their own. Today it is supposed to reach the high 40s. This chill is supossed to last till end of next week.
As for BINGO, I have zilch, nada, zero, none. Between the cold weather and no bingo calls, I'm depressed.
I'll have to go and look at some gessie pictures to cheer me up. I can't wait for spring to start increasing my addiction.
Darn still only 2 over all!
OK I'll rub it in, our lows this week were 30, last night 44, and highs 60's.
I have been doing a lot of WS, and garden bed prepping for spring. I'm thinking of building a hoop green house, when I get the chance, but it comes after another Peafowl enclosure.
None for me today, sooo far, maybe we will get lucky with an extra call like the other day!! What a treat! (hint hint) Unless Tommie got to go to Springfield to the "special place" you all talk about!!!
Laura, I got the seeds, thanks! I have some red already, hoping for a mix of color for the retaining walls, that will look so nice!! And love the picture! thats so cute! By the way, as a life long Illinois (ian), but note, I'm in more of the southern il area, its cold here right now, but the northern il (ians) really got the chill!! I'd love to be in warm weather right now, its a whopping 26 degrees right now, but at least the sun is shining, that helps a little!!!
It is only 16 degrees here as I type... I got my new shelf this past week and hubby put it up for me so now I have to go get lights for it and then space out some of my streps.... I also now have room for all the av's I don't want but fell in love with them...LOL
Hugs,
Susan
We are having a heat wave here also. It is 27 degrees and I wish it was the other way around 72.
ARGHHHH, I am so sick!!! My heater went out last night and ruined at least $1,000 worth of my plants...plus considering the new growth I use for propagation is slimy and ruined....I could dare say I lost more...see...that's what I get for bragging...ok all, say a prayer for me to not lose my mind during this massive clean up. I hope nobody else suffers loss from the weather, though I know they have..my heart goes out to all the frost bit plants... tears are flowing....I get entirely to attached to my babies....yall have a great day!
im really sorry to hear about this,if theres anything i can do,let me know
JIM
I am so sorry.I can't imagine how hard it is to lose so many babies.
just let us know how we can help, how horrible, i will cry for you.
mrsbonnie
oh no thats terrible!!! I hope you are able to save some, that is a lot of work, not to mention the $$!!!! I'm so so sorry for you!!! Good thoughts are coming out your way!!!
I'm so sorry to hear about your plants. . I feel terrible when I lose just a leaf. I can't imaging how it would feel to lose almost all of them.
Hi, thanks for your sympathy. I carried out three 15 gallon pots of damaged plants and leaves. Most that got hit hard were the larger type leaves, some were over 12" wide, it is weird that most of the damage was done only to the begonias. I am just so sick....it happens and well what can we do but salvage and go on. I am sure I am not the only one. I am really hoping the rhizomes did not get damaged...the leaves will grow back, but not if the rhizomes got froze also. I am really just so frustrated!! A few trays of cuttings got hit also...that and all the other damage has set me back at least 6-9 months of growing time....grrrr...well this is the stuff we are made of...the ability to cut our losses and not lose our love of horticulture in general...I am a die harder and will bounce back. I will for sure be doing some serious propagation now to maybe hopefully have them ready for sale before the end of season this year.
I again thank everyone for their kindness and letting me blow off some steam...it helps. And I am looking on the brighter side...hopefully the remainders of the frozen plants will recover and all will be well, and also I did not lose all of my expensive ones...just a few...am sad though cuz my fiji island Gran gave me bit the dust...hopefully just the leaves though. Well everyone thanks so much again and take care! Laura
Ouch! All that hard work... how heartbreaking!
I'm looking for a ray of hope and thinking that since not everything got "hit hard," the rhizomes on your begonias should be fine.
If there's anything you need to replace -- post a list. We'll help if we can. :-)
Yall are the greatest!! Thanks so much!!! I am keeping my fingers crossed!!
Hey Laura S--- I have been there a couple times-- don't give up some things will come back--I know how disheartening it can be! But---you know I will hook you up with begonias come spring and anything else I have-- just ordered over 20 pkts of species begonia seeds from ABS & Mauro Pexioto--so will have even MORE come spring. Laura H-- yes I did go to springfield ^_^ got 2 streps(quit grinning Jim) 2 micro mini sinningias, also Sinn Ozarks fireworks, 2 AV's and a seemannia "chic" that is just too cute-also got a standard AV at another Gh--Ness' Fantasy gold--tho the pics don't look at all like 1st class photos-- these have almost a chimera quality. Photo's tomorrow (not everything has blooms) my tail feathers are dragggin-- and still have to carry in firewood etc
