January Blooms - IV

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Look for a JB Hunt Truck....^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

No, they are not related to the magazine in any way. As much as you love begonias, Gran, I would hit him upside the head......he is only less than 30 minutes away. Their prices are great, too.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

He REALLY would go if I asked him to--but he has no idea of what i do or don't have. Plus even tho he's coming home next week it would be hard to deal with a plant on the road. When ever he goes thru Marshall TX--he ALWAYS goes to Marshall Pottery and then calls me on his cell as he shops describing the different things he sees--and always brings me something cool. I did tell him that if he saw ladies shaking their fist at him they are probably DGers ^_^

Gail, does the Garden Gate sell AV's?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I haven't seen any the few times I've been there . . . but that doesn't mean I wasn't looking in the right place!

Very pretty Little Darlin', m3rma1d

I agree! Great plants and blooms, Little Darlin' and mermaid.

No, they don't grow african violets at Garden Gate.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I had good light today...and apparently the same idea as some others. I will just post one for now. Hope I posted the right one--Lollipop Kid

Too cute!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Wrong one! Changed my mind anyway. The sun fades the color a little--but I like this one better...

Oh my ... I can see myself easily getting the AV "bug" again with looking at these beauties!

'Little Darlin' is just darlin ... Love that sparkly bloom! That is a beauty!

Love 'Lollipop Kid' too! Look at all the buds on that one!

Y'all are such good growers!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Beautiful blooms, Mermaid and Phoebe

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

One more I took today--Love the colors--just wish it were a little clearer. Anyone here experienced with using manual settings?

Maybe this summer I MIGHT start growing a few african violets after seeing all of these.

South, TX

Loverly blooms!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Thank you--my pictures do not do them justice...yet.

M3--did you dip that flower in sugar? Ha-ha---really...it's gorgeous!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am not a good photographer but I like to think I can grow........I can't be good at more than one thing (LOL)

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Yes- you are a good photographer--and I planto use your black box hint--as soon as I find an appropriate box, and remember to buy the paint. Also plan to experiment w/ cloth. Right now, my camera skills are still in kindergarten.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Phoebe try experimenting with your photo software--sometimes you can enhance the color etc there.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Gran--I have fiddled with the photo edit tools in Photobucket, and while it is fun, it rarely results in a more accurate representation of the bloom/plant--which is my basic goal with AV pics. My brain is stretched too thin right now to take on trying to learn yet another new program such as photoshop right now. Between 3 jobs, the computer, which I did not even know how to turn on a little more than a year ago, the camera, and other new things in my life in the past few months, my brain feels like it is on warp speed sometimes---my brain is toooooooo old for warp speed! I keep files for growing tips and one for photo tips--I want to try everything eventually.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Phoebe, my computer tech is a professional photographer , in addition to building computers and servicing them. He told me to leave the settings and color stuff alone........just turn the lights down low and let the flash go off. My box is getting too small for my streps, so my sister in law says she has a lot of black velvet. I would rather find a bigger box and paint it black with a can of paint (LOL).

But I always crop........he told me to only crop and don't mess with the color features of a program unless you really know what you are doing (and I don't)........

If you are using Vista, it comes with the best and simple color enhancement program .........I have Vista but I don't like switching from Vista to windows XP because I have to turn the computer on and off.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I have Vista--against my will--LOL! Other than to download pics--hadn't tried their photo tools--will take a look. I am also considering signing up at the local jr.college for a basic photography class. I don't mess too much with the settings(manual) as I have no clue! I still take an awful lot of blurry pics!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Hold on.............let me switch to Vista and tell you what comes with Vista.......best photo program free in the world.............be back....

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

cool!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

The computer tech was here for over 2 hours and he has taken it off of Vista, but it is called Premium 10 and is free and comes with Vista. Look it up and you should have it free with Vista. Mine was free. It is the best program I have found.

He also said he is downloading the new windows 7 tomorrow and he would look to see if it comes with the Premium 10 photo program like it did on Vista.........

I could actually make the pictures much better and make all kinds of adjustments to colors, intensity of color......saturation, etc....................

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Thanks Gail! I have to go to bed now--up at 5a to get ready for work. I will look for it after work tomorrow and let you know.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

most photo programs will let you save the original picture and the edited one-don't like what it looks like-- don't keep it.

I can't use a photo program.........don't know enough yet.............

Premium 10 is a free very good program just for the basics.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

I don't know how to use them-- I just play with them until I get what I want--or not. I had photo shop-- waaayyy too complicated, I uninstalled it. I just use the very basic Kodak program that came with my camera or the free Picasa by google.

Gail, your photos are stunning! I really like the pics of the Sinns. So crisp and detailed. Space Dust is really pretty.

AV Little Darlin is very pretty too.
