January Blooms - IV

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/941636/#new

I just have to post this one again! I cannot believe it has come back from the - not dead - but the "leaves are so dark and soggy that they will never support themselves ever again" phase, only to bloom more than once, and a seed pod to boot!

Here is the first bloom from Bristol's Potpourri - the very first one to bloom that I grew from a leaf cutting received in the fall swap! (thanks, Lou!) ^_^

That's some seed pod!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I didn't even know what it was at first. ^_^

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

You gonna let it ripen and plant them?

Highland, IL

I have no idea what that amaryllis is, I will have to check with Froggies_Girl, I bought it from her, I have more buds, but don't know the names, they are so cool, this is my first year.

Tommie, those are really neat glasses, great find!! I love to hit the 2nd hand, thrift store, yard sales etc. for that kind of stuff. I don't do the knick nack thing just the plant thing, thank goodness!!!

If I get another addiction, my DH is gonna freak out! tee hee!! But, its better than my habits when he met me!!!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I will let it ripen and dry . . . if I don't grow them out, I'm sure I can find someone who would . . . ^_^

Good growing! A blooming plant from a leaf cutting and beautiful flowers on Purple Panda. I am happy that I have babies from leaves sent to me from gessiegail and Jim earlier this fall that I am starting to separate and pot up. Very rewarding.

I sowed some strep seed on 12/24 and they were coming up in about 10 days. I would be thrilled if there could be at least one nice one in the bunch.

Most of my blooming streps have already posted but this is the first bloom on Oglevee Zoe. It doesn't look like the photo on the streptocarpus site but gessiegail thinks it is Zoe. I wasn't sure and was wondering if it was mislabeled when sold.

ill give it a shot,syrumani

See? I have something to trade you after all! Will it turn brown and dry, just like AV pods do?

Oh, this reminds me . . . I need to go print a picture of it, so I can prove I haven't killed it at the club meeting tonite!

Williston, ND

at about 8 weeks clip it and toss it in a baggie,it will dry there,

JIM

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I only just noticed it last Thursday . . . so I guess about the time the country starts to thaw is when I'll be clipping! Thanks for the info, Jim. ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Jim, don't you think Goldleaf's Zoe is the real thing?

Syrumani, if you think your son got a kick out growing an av leaf, try sowing some of the seeds from your Purple Panda seed pod!

Williston, ND

i think it looks like it,the lines in the throat is what makes me think you have the right one,
its a pretty one,so did those ogleevees come to that greenhouse yet?
save me a leaf one that one goldleaf .please???

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Just a few pics before the day begins. Jim, I got up real early for me and that was 6:30.

Even though Cape Essence grows with one big wide leaf, her blooms make it all worthwhile. She will throw up 2 or 3 of these stems of blooms at one time.

A new red on a newly grown plant from a leaf. Perhaps someone will recognize her.

HI Gail-- good to see you-- was thinking about you on the 13th.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

This came from LL and said Iced Amethyst Showoff, but I thought she was supposed to be a light purple. Will look her up on the strep site.

Thanks, Gran and I am home. Got home yesterday and slept a lot, but I feel great and lucky!

The sun was shining so bright when I stopped by a good nursery but want to share a few photos.

She had begonias taller than 5 feet everywhere......the cane begonias that is.

All kinds of begonias on many tables.

I was aiming at the top of the greenhouse as she has so many baskets of begonias, too.

Aaah ...

Gail, your photo excursions always make the day so much brighter ... whether they are pic's of your own beautiful plants or those at the fabulous nurseries you visit! I keep saying I wish there were even ONE nursery like that near me but I'd probably go broke quick! It is sooo hard to pass up pretty plants! Thank you so much for sharing your photo's!

South, TX

Gail, great photos of your streps and nursery photos! Did you go to Seguin?

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Gail, Where is that nursery? What a great place with wonderful plants! I want to go!!! Was that a mounted strawberry begonia next to the staghorn fern? How cool.

Sarah

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

yes, that was a strawberry begonia mounted next to the staghorn fern. Garden Gate is located in Seguin, Texas off of I10 about 30 minutes from San Antonio. She said that she and her husband are thinking about selling on ebay. When I hear more I will let you know. They have about 30-40 greenhouses.

This weekend my friend Betty and I are hunting down nurseries in the valley.....that would be real close to the Mexican border and we are very excited.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I don't see the pod. :(

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Be sure to let us know if you hear anything about Garden Gate selling on eBay, Gail. Their plants are gorgeous! I just may have to take a trip down that way!

Sarah

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

DH is in San Antonio now-- but he won't go there for me :(

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Gail--are they related to the Garden Gate Magazine?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

What does he look like, Hillbilly_Gran? I'll go knock him upside his head . . . ^_^
