Jeanmarie new chicks don't require food or water after they first hatch. they absorb their yolk sac right before they hatch and don't need food or water for the first day.
You may be forceing uno to do to much to soon and maybe hes not ready for it. let him sleep and try and walk around on his own and get his strength back from hatching.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Will do. I am so tired, she can rest allll night! ;)
I just got home and the roads were awful. There were cars off the road.
So I am going to get to bed. Thanks. She will probably be better tomorrow.

(Zone 7b)

Goodnight JeanMarie hope you sleep wonderfully you should now that all the chick drama is over LOL

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Glad you got home safe! It's scary driving and passing all sorts of other cars off the road...

Uno's gonna be fine...
sleep tight.
Jay

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

UNO is walking. Not well, but she hobbles around. Swimmy zips all over the place. Maybe DD could change the name to zippy. She says No. Thanks guys.
Ya, its really cold here. Not as cold as its suppose to get. DH is putting the heater near the water pump. Yup, frozen again. :( H will have it up and running before you know it. He always does.
The two chicks look sooo alike. I dont get it. They have two different moms! wierd!

Elbridge, NY

I've called him Swimmy since the day I saw him swimming in his egg so i dont think i should change it . :]
Dominique

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Are Uno's toes still curled like that? If so, time to make a tape bootie.

(Zone 7b)

Hey JeanMarie Glad to know hes doing better take your experience you had this time and remember how it went.
Remember your temps and humidity and anything you did before the hatch this will give you the perimeters for your future hatches.
Look at the hatch and what you saw and learned and you will have all the info for your next hatch from your personal experience this time.
What did you do that you would change and what didn't you do that you think you should have.

Take all you experienced with this hatch and write it down and your next hatch you will know exactly what to do and you will be more confident.

But i will add all hatches are never perfect some chicks just don't hatch. Others can have genetic defects that cause them not to hatch with deformitys had one almost hatch that didn't have a brain.
It would have never hatched it developed to hatching but their was no brain to tell it to peck.

So you now have the tools for your future hatches "My Dear" You now have hatching knowledge congratulations you have graduated to "Incubater Engineer Statice" Take a Bow {{{{Applause Please!!}}}}

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Well, UNO is walking some. Not as well as the other though. Would I cut and use band-aids Claire? I am not sure if its just the two toes or what. When I hold her she seems to have at least some strength in all of them. She scared the death out of me this morning. I came home from the groomers and she was laying spread eagle on her back! I have NEVER seen a chicken on there back. Her feet spread out and up. I thought she passed. She heard me and her eyes opened. Sheesh! What a wacky chicken! She seems to fall over a lot. Not stable. I am now not thinking spraddle leg. She can pull her legs in under herself. She just seems to not have a lot of muscle control. How do you make a tape booty? :)

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Ohh Harmony, YOU ARE A SCIENTIST AT HEART! I will do just that. My next hatch is next Thursday! ;) I cant wait. Its the showgirl eggs. They are already so big. We candled last night. And the next ones are due the following Thursday. Yeah!!!
I have learned a lot thins hatch. I will take notes and use them in the future.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Did the one with the curled toes uncurl?

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Yes, all on its own. It still is not as fast as the other but it does not fall all the time like it did.
I am just so thankful. They are identical arnt they?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

So glad they are doing well and that the footie is fixed!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I have 11 developing showgirls in the bator. 5 due next Thurs. 6 more due the following Thurs. I also stuck two under a broody hen. I have way too many. These eggs were super fertile. Not many bad at all! I only wanted 6 babies. Now I have a possible 15! yikes. that did not work out so good. Oh well, its all in a day.

(Zone 7b)

Oh! do you have room for all of those? Is your DH just about to freak hes got to be by now and this would definately not be a good time to talk about Ducks.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Congrats Sewin!!! They are darling...

Sewincircle hatching dance and dance of joy in shorts tomorrow as whooo hoooo we're chinooking. I will post a pic to so the new babies can have a giggle ^_^

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

If that doesn't inspire UNO I don't know what will...
bikini weather here, too. =0)

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Thanks cndydavis. I sure try. I cant believe how fast they grow up! 4 days old and one has started to get wing feathers!
dahlianut, pics are a must! It will sure encourage them too. (and make me giggle)
bikini weather??? I am below zero. No bikini here. not even in the summer hehehe.

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

I've heard the first ones with the wing feathers are the roos. Is that true?

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I think it depends on the bread. Females (like humans) mature faster. Now they both have wing feathers. Looks like daddy (Dukes) genes are strong. They are white. Neat! I dont have any white chickens. hmmmm mailbird?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I've had ones that start out white but get different color feathers as they mature, especially in the neck region. Some of my more recent white ones got beautiful golden shades in their neck. Others have developed browns. It all depends...

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Okay, so I wont have them draw blood for the Jerry Springer show, "are you my daddy?" hehehe
I was just shocked when I saw the white feathers. Its pretty! Duke does have a lot of white. Here is dad.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Okay, that pic was not great! Here is another. He is a handsome boy! He is my first chicken ever.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

OK, having seen him, I am pretty much 99% sure that you will see some other feather colors as those little bitties grow up...they will be interesting to watch to see where the colors come out!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I agree! Thats the fun part of the barnyard specails. All the interesting color mixes. Ya know?

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

Congratulations! New pics in order?

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Here is swimmy, with white wing feathers.
