Introduceing JELLY BEAN!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

VEGETARIAN!!!! VEGETARIAN!!!! BUNNIES FOREVER!!!!

I'm sure Jelly Bean will recover...

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Took grandson to the auction last night, he tried to bid on some fluffy little bunnies. He asked if he could have one. I told him nanna just doesnt have the set up right now for them and it is fixing to be cold so we can do it in the spring. OH gosh, I am such a softie. They were cute little things. Oh I seen some black rose combs I would have sold my grandson for but I refrained. They went for 5 bucks a piece and normally sell for about 30 bucks each.

(Zone 7b)

Black Rose Combs those are some nice birds and $5 WOW! must of been a off night for them to go for that.
Oh there was and adult pair of peacocks he was the most BEAUTIFUL thing i have ever seen all green, blue and shiney it would blind you. The hen was also just as nice looking but without the color i would of sold my flock to own them. But like you no room or pen big enough here.......

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Yea I want to get some kind of birds for DGS to show next year. Those rose combs would have been nice to have. I will see the guy that bought them and ask him to save me some eggs to hatch. If it wasnt for me downsizing I would have gotten them!!!

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I grew up on a farm and lived on the bayou for many years. Harvesting, raising and eating animals was a staple. It was the way we survived. They were always treated good but we always knew they were food. I think it made us appreciate them even more.

Clarkson, KY

Ok, confession time here....I raised about 15 chicks from scratch last spring. We had 8 roos as of yesterday. After picking my Mom up to go run errands we drove past a horrific sight---5 roos all trying to mount 1 hen. Fight, scratch, mount, repeat. She would have surely died had we not come in time. Mom and I chased them off of her (she ran and hid among the gentlemanly older roos) and one came and tried to attack her (Mom). Chased it with a board and whalloped its butt. Every single one of them was beautiful. But I checked with a friend, got help, and put 6 out of my 8 roos into freezer packs yesterday. Possibly if I kept them all confined I would have been able to keep them, but when I saw that gang on one young female...

Our two gentlemen are now lords of all they survey...
We roasted the one who always tried to attack DD, Mom, and whoever else he could.

Read "Compassionate Carnivore" and know that raising your own meat is a much bigger kindness than buying the poor abused chickens at the supermarket. Seems to me, if you really don't want to participate in cruelty, home-raised is the way to go.

Grow, by my lights you've done nothing to confess to, merely taken responsibility for what you eat.

Good for you!
Jay

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I totally agree.. I would do the same thing.

Clarkson, KY

My regret is that I let them go long enough to do that to the hen...sure was educational.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh I bet so. I have not seen any............loving going on here for a while. I did downsize alot of roos this past week so Maybe spring will sprout out soon and all will be well with the world once again. I think I know have less than 10 roos. To about 75 to 100 hens, alot of those will be just egg layers. I decided to back off the egg laying and keep a few I want to breed. Or should I say have bread. I think my breeders wil be JG, RIR, EE's and BR, Dom's Oh cant forget the orps!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya'll lost me nine posts back. I must be slow.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Cajun Jay started singing about spring breeding and hatching, and then SHAZAM singing broke out everywhere. I think it was a spring fever frenzy moment and we will all be ok now ^_^

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

You just have no bubbles to fizz up yer noze holez.....

....D---|

Now you can sing along too =0)

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I don't do bubbles but I do get asked to sing solo. So Low nobody can hear me. LOL

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Ah Cajun is a soft alto perchance. A VIP for the wassailing choir for festive occasions. I'm sure my dear cousin Grownut has already documented this in the official Wassail Register .

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

My singing voice is why I started learning to sign. LOL My TMJ appreciates it!!!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

There's an official Wassail Register? Geez....I never get told about anything....

(seriously hoping I'm not on it....for the sake of others ears)

OMG: You fools had me laughing so hard I could not see to go from post to post. Once I read cajunKY' post about eating Jelly bean I knew it was going to be a long morning. I cannot stop laughing, i've gone through two large hankies but I can't stop laughing. And Jay you are just to crazy. That was such a smooth transition from eating bunnies to la la la that poor Cajun could not keep up. Sorry Harm but everytime I think of Jellybean today I'm going to have pic's of a stew pot. How does that go, its cold out but we can have spring in our hearts.

I am so ready for spring.

(Zone 7b)

OMG you took the words out of my mouth Luvs!!!
I was just out filling water cups because their waterers were froze again and i said shouted...SPRING I WANT IT TO BE SSSSPPPPRRRIINNG!!!!

Then i stuck my frozen hands back in my pockets and got back to work :(

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Yea really. This shouldnt last to long for either of us. We have been having an unusual warm winter. Only a few days of cold and really not that cold. Now tomorrow the high I think is suppose to be 29 then back up in the 50's and 60's the rest of the week. Maybe some of this warmth will make it your way.

(Zone 7b)

YES PLEASE!! Box Me some up Luvs i will Gladly pay the shipping cost

It was 22 this morning and when i gave my Doves some water they tried to take a bath in the cup "LOL"

(Here i'am worried their going to freeze)

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

How did you make out last night and today with the cold Harmony?

(Zone 7b)

Everybody Did Great i hung a 100 watt bulb over the pigeons water the one with the babys and it didn't freeze!!
Aparently doves don't get cold they were all cooing and i found a egg in the food bowl they also thought the fresh cup of water i gave them was a bath.
My chickens did good it was 22 here and all they wanted was a cup of water and some more corn.
I don't like feeding them corn it has no nutrition but it helps them stay warm i do give a corn and crumble mix and when it's warm crumbles only.

Rabbits were out and stretching Mary anne was very thirsty but Honey wanted more bird seed.

It's getting down to 18 thursday night it has went up according to the weather man thats when i will add the straw for extra warmth.
Then they have raised the temp to 12 for friday night i can't put the straw in there too soon or the chickens will scratch it all out.

HeHeHe the rabbits eat their bed i have to replace that too;)

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Edible bed hmmmmmmmmmm.
The bunnies will look like bowling balls by time this is over. hehehe
I am glad everyone made it through okay. A couple more days and it should be over!!

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Don't wseat it, Jay. It's alla camera trick. LOL

It was in the teens here this morning and they are calling for 5 and 1 the next two days. This is supposed to be with us until next week. DH is watching the weather. If it looks like it is going to get too icy he is going to pull the horse trailer into the barn hall and stay in it. Our barn in only 6 minutes from the house but we have to cross a steep mountain to get there. Our horses are stalled and have to be taken care of. The trailer has a nice LQ on it that is easily heated with a few minutes of a kerosene heater. Plus, being in the barn with the big doors closed there won't be any wind on it. He'll have to set the saw dust toilet up in the back of the trailer. But that's no biggie. That's what we do when we go camping. It's always cleaner than the port a pots.

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

BEWARE Bun-zilla! This is Jelly Bean's groupie thread... only members of Jelly Bean Bunny Cult will be snuggled with by the Great, Soft, Blue-Eyed GAWD.

LOL

We've been down in the low teens at night for about a week, last couple of days have been warm and sunny with NO WIND... [[dancing in the aisles]] Looks like it's going to get up to 50* today.

Good plan with the trailer ina barn...

Could Apple play with Jelly Bean. He is a vegetarian. And he likes popsicles in summer.

Does Apple get popsickle headaches like we do? Is Apple a polka dot breed bunny? Is that Apple's house? Incognito ducks ask alot of questions, don't they?
