I have the following putting on a show:
Gray Mist
Flowering at the moment....
Just fabulous, Elsa! Love them all! :-)
Did the Kohkan seeds come from me? Beautiful aren't they?!! One of my absolute favorites! :-)
Your Akatsuki no Umi looks like it might be a cross with a blizzard gene. NICE!!!
And your LYK looks like a cross with either Sun Smiles or Kawaii. Are the leaves variegated or solid color? The vine blooms may very well change in color and pattern as this vine grows out. I hope you get tons of blooms on it like I did on mine!
What can I say ... just beautiful! :-)
Gorgeous blooms Elsa.
Beautiful Elsa
♥♥♥ The Velvet plum with dark flowers!!
ohhhhhs what beauties!
wow! All the colors are beautiful.
Elsa - I really like this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5989020
I hope you get seeds for it! It looks a little like "Sazanami".
dany, that is very pretty... looks so elegant!
Dany - Lovely and abundant blooms on your Akatsuki no Umi ! If it becomes more dry and hot, you will have to water them more. And winter will probably be too cold to grow them outside unless your temps stay about 45 or above degrees at night. Ipomoea nil vine growth slows down in cooler weather.
Thanks, everybody!
Becky, my LYK has variegated leaves. The #20 is grown from seed I received from Joseph last year. I didn't have success last year (I put it down to ignorance), but I'm glad I saved some seed. I really love the color of the flowers, and the leaves are all curly, and a lovely almost lime green. It seems as if I'll get a few seeds from it. It is not a very large plant at all. I'd say about a foot in height, and already it looks as if it is slowing down, channeling all it's energy into forming a few seeds. Wouldn't have it any other way though!
Ronnie, I must agree with you. The dark Velvet Plum is a real stunner. And the size of the flowers is unbelievable...
Dany, your Akatsuki no Umi is really beautiful. I inherited my love for blue from my mom - or maybe it is just plain conditioning. LOL! I can't walk past a blue flower or vase...
and yes, we are well into summer, with lovely rain this year. We are so blessed. I am lucky to live in a very temperate part of the country, and even the part of the city (Pretoria) is situated on the right side of the mountain (so to speak) Some parts of Pretoria get very bad frost in winter, but we haven't had any the past three. The temperatures does go down to about 30F at night, but as I said luckily no frost. I started almost all my JMG inside this past winter, but it doesn't seem to make a big difference. They started flowering more or less the same time as last year.
I took the pots outside during the day time, and back again inside. I forgot them outside one night, and the leaves drooped badly. I thought they had permanent damage! Had me worried there for a few days. I had a Sunrise Serenade flowering in the garden until I pulled end of August when I pruned my roses. It was rambling all through the rose bushes.
Will see what happens to the nils this year. ..
Have a great day,
Elsa
Elsa, thanks for posting these MGs while we're all starved for them in the north.
Would this one be the Akatsuki no Umi I sent you last February? If so, the blizzard effect is interesting, because It was growing next to "Wisteria Tie Dye".
Elsa - If your LMK has variegated leaves, it is a cross with Sun Smiles most likely. Very pretty! I wonder if the future blooms will be the same or different. Keep posting those great photos! :-)
Karen, yes, it is from your seeds. I will upload a photo of the one that is open today. Really beautiful, with lots of lighter blue in it. It has more or less the same size flower as Kohkan. Really striking!
I had some Akatsuki no Umi growing last year, and the vine produced smaller flowers (almost half the size of these).
Becky, I will definitely keep you posted. I just love the way these little flowers cross with one another!
Elsa - OH MY! Save me a few seeds of Akatsumi no Umi if you get enough from this vine! I love that Blizzard cross! Just absolutely beautiful!! All of them are looking great!
Elsa, more lovely blooms.
*sigh* so very beautiful! I love to look at them! Thank you!
I must say, MG are my all time most favorite flowers.... I just can't get enough! My DH just shakes his head whenever I get all excited about yet another JMG that I just MUST have. LOL!
Becky, I will keep you in mind. Putting you in my Trade Tracker as we speak...
Elsa,
What is the name of this bloom ?
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5996521
I think I have the same MG - large flower ( see my pic ) but no name.
This one on my compter is named : with Hamaginga .
I have a lot of pics named " with....... "
Dany
Hi Dany,
I don't know the name of that JMG. It is one of the surprises I got together with the others. It has been raining quite a lot, so I haven't been able to go out to see if I can see what the other vines growing with it, are named. Will see how the weather is tomorrow. Maybe we will be able to narrow down the parent plants.
Will get back to you.
I love the flower in the image you posted. I can't get over the size of some of these flowers...
I googled "Hamaginga" and it looks as if the flowers vary quite a bit. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=cat1_gallery_1&listing_id=19422667
Elsa,
On the link you posted , they are 2 differents MG
The purple is not exactly an Hamaginga it's a Velvet Purple Blizzard and the blooms are a little bigger than a Purpurea
There are 2 real Hamaginga ,more blue and larger
I bought from them on ebay ( good sellers ) Now , ai the moment ,they are on ebay - the 2nd flower , the pics are the same. And for less money !!!!!
Dany
