How wonderful, but such a long wait for the actual spring display.
Garden Photos - Part 48
I love your Flower Karen!!!
so pretty I love snow
Yeah, the snow is pretty. I wish I had a pair of snow shoes. I would love to go snow shoeing. I still want spring to come soon.
Karen
Nice shots, Shelly, Karen and Jo Anne!
Thanks!!!
Very pretty blue, Karen :)
I LOVE cardinals!!! Thank you.
What a treat Patti. I want to grow amarillis next year.
Ge1836, I keep trying orchids, but do far better with amaryllis. I envy your cymbidiums, and adore the green ones, always. Yep, Green with envy, for sure. Patti
Wow--no wonder this site cheers me up---really nice photos, folks! I'm very jealous of the orchid, Jo Ann--not 1 spike on any of mine, & they don't look very good--time to toss! Karen & Shelley---we went crosscountry by train in 92--our son had just graduated high school, & I felt we needed the time together before he set off for college, etc. I loved the trip---we began in Hartford, went to Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, LA, Flagstaff, Albuqurque, back to Chicago & then Hartford.
They do brighten up a wintry day, maybe next year I'll get some amaryllis.
Hi-Ho-the-Derrio she stands alone. She is beautiful!
There is a quiet, peaceful beauty I find most serene in everyone's wintery views.
I have to say I agree with pixie! Now, I cannot wait until my Papilio opens .... my stem's a growin'!! Great limelight on that "Gal," too, Patti.
Nice blooms on the Cymbid, too, JoAnn ..... my orchid bud doesn't look close to blooming yet.
Pixie, I adore 'Dancing Queen'. It has been very reliable and glorious for the last three years for me. I hope it burst forth again later this spring. It is so elegant, yet sassy. But, Pixie, don't, I repeat, don't ever visit Boojum, the temptation to grow everything she does is overwhelming and humbling. Her orchids are amazing.
Back to my cardinals. I think this is my favorite picture of my regular guy. We have a couple of pairs, but this guy is the big cheese of the bunch. I took this out of the window and my focus was weird, but I think it captures him well with his beloved rose hips on a cold Jan. day. But maybe it is just too fuzzy. Patti
He is one handsome dude!!!!!!
great pics cardinals are so hard to get they are so shy not like there blue conterparts the blue jay that wakes me every morning demanding peanuts he screams at me lol the nerve of the guy and now he brings all his friends to eat peanuts so now I have eight of them and they are eating a two pound bag per week lol ahhahahh hope that they dont do anymore advertising or I am going to go broke
Cousin nutsfor methinks you have a Dahlia "Stained Blue"in your winter garden. Very rare and prettiful. I soooooo miss cardinals :(
I have them they just dont hang around so its like a quick see and they are gone
I miss them so from when I lived in Ontariariariooooo. We had them nest in the cedars.
where did you live in ontario ??????????????
Born and a seedling in Burlington, Ontario. Four years at school in Peterborough, Ontario. Then off to the Arctic. All my fam lives on the west coast now so I haven't been back since the early 90s.
Thanks Victor and Karen. Karen, believe it or not, the property owner loves queen annes lace, so I have to leave several of the weeds at all times. I do my best to never let one get more than a year or two before I pull it and let a youger one take it's place so that I don't have so many seedlings to pull! Some years I actually get around to deadheading them. But, I didn't have time in the fall this year. However, it does look pretty with frost on it!
BBrook.... Beautiful amaryllis and cardnials. I just love them all!!
Willie, I agree with you and Pixie completely. However I prefer it when it's not actually my view!
cool been to burlington and peterborough nice
I started in cap-pele new brunswick went to moncton then toronto and now ottawa think I will stay put now lol
my best friend moved to grand cache alberta last march for a one year contract I think she will be happy to be back at this end that is a dead town four hours north of edmonton she hates it there.
redchic, I have that love hate thing with Queen Ann's Lace here in Nantucket. I miss it when it isn't in the garden, but I hate it's tape roots and it taking over the garden. I love seeing the them all curled up in the fall. This is an amazing site with a great collection of shots of them. http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artapr05/bjwildcarrot.html
I think about Peterborough On. every time I go out in our canoe. Patti
Thanks for the link Brook. Those were some amazing pictures of it! Sort of inspires me to go and find some different specimens to take pictures of. I'll have to invest in a much better camera (and a photo class!) to ever have those sort of pics though.
There are some real wows on that site, but many of yours are pretty fine too. I think the artificial lighting and equipment makes a huge difference. Patti
that's for certain! And thanks. But, I have two goals that I have told myself that I have to do before I can move up to a DSLR type camera. It will likely take me at least two years at my $ pace. learn all the functions of my current point and shoot type and then take a photographry class. Then, if I have the funds. I'll move up to the fancier stuff!
Great cardinal pics, Patti! I love them. I did not think that last pic of the male was bad at all. In fact the fuzziness of it added a lot of "atmosphere" to it. Looks like a "soft focus" technique.
Robin, your train trip sounds like it must have been fun. My favorite part of the trip was going through Utah and the Rockies in Colorado. I did not have a sleeper car, so it was difficult for me to get good sleep. I think it was after passing through the Rockies that we no longer had an observation car, so that was disappointing. Nebraska seemed like it was all corn and rather dull.
I do like Queen Anne's Lace a lot. Very pretty "weed".
Karen
Thanks for reminding me Karen... I forgot Robin! Ooops. Sorry!
Robin your trip sounds as if it was a fun one. Although, that's a long time spent in a little space. You should make it again sometime. I have heard that the fall and winter are spectular times to take the section from Portland to Northern California for the fall colors and snow. I haven't actually taken the train from Eugene south because: well, why I live in the middle of that stretch. But, my grandmother took that section usually about every other year, just to make the trip to view the scenery. I have a hard time dealing with not getting real exercise for that amount of time. However, sometime between my first and second ride over to Eastern Oregon, they added an "exercise car", they call it something a little different, to one of the trains and you can watch whatever movies they're showing in there. That's where I spent 80% of my second trip. That was the best! There were still plenty of windows to look out and enjoy the scenery. Although, when on the bike or eliptical trainer....I almost needed a dramamine :-p
Thanks for the orchid appreciation everyone.
Qudoes go to DD and she barely looks at it all year.
It is the most neglected plant.
I used to grow phals and dendrobiens but couldnt keep up the business and plant care too.
I am going to start som amarillis next year.
Patties are beautiful.
I was given a house warming gift from WFF and ordered their 2 exotic varieties. I was underwhelmed, just not as showy or dramatic as the full petaled ones.
