I am running around today so just scanned quickly..........Russian dinner sounds like fun!!
Love everyone pictures, fantastic as always.........
The Bear?.......We yelled and it ran off.......later that night it got into some international coffee mix we had left on the table, and took a taste of one of our bike helmets.......a friend of ours who was in his 60's at the time, said,Oh yeah, I watched him get into stuff......when asked why he didn't wake us his comment was well, he had to go through all of you to get to me!!!! Found out later the next night some people locked their food in the trunk of their car, the baear broke out the car window, and tore out the back seat to get into the trunk!!!!!! Don't like Teddy Bears!!!!
Later, have to run and take the son in law to work~
Weird Weather of '09!! ....... #1
RC Your pictures are beautiful! Are these taken near Eugene? It looks a lot like the prairies in SD where I came from. That is the kind of place I hope to live in again someday. Do you have rattlesnakes there?
Linda
Tricia, Yikes, That bear!!! I'm glad that you were the smart ones of the the group. What a story though.
Thanks to All!! and Jan, It's always great to have you hanging out over here! I agree, two nights while I was there, the sunset colors were fantastic. If I had to pick one thing that I liked about that area there, it would be the sunsets, without a doubt.
Linda... I took those pictures over in Northeastern Oregon this weekend, where I was visiting my sister and her family. She lives about 45min. south of Hermiston. In the right light (sunrise or set), and when the wheat is up, the fields do look like prairies. however when the sun is above and you're at the top of a knoll.... it's fairly flat and if not for irrigation, would be a desert. If you go another 30 min. south of my sisters place, there's no irrigation and you travel miles without seeing anything.
Susan, that ride on the Deschutes looks like it was a lot of fun! your boys are so cute as always. just for kicks, here's the picture that I posted of those two dogs earlier this year. I took this in Sept. or there about.
That's still my favorite picture! Two little guys hitting the big highway all alone.
It's my fav also. I sooo wanted that one to win the contest.
I feel comfortable here. On the TV this morning it showed 'Air stagnation" in the PNW on the weather map. What is that? We are going to be the coldest so far this year for the next few days. I wish I had some snow cover, but, alas, we haven't had any. However, north of us has gotten their fair share and then some of snow and ice this year.
Shelly, that IS just the cutest pic. Thanks for the compliment on the boys. Yah, it did look like the people were having fun, hooting and hollering all the way down. Even the people (DH and myself included) on the bank were hooting.
Susan
I keep telling myself....it's colder in NY or even FL plus NJ! They're supposed to get a really bad cold spell. On Regis and Kelly this morning, they showed a shot outside (17 deg) of people walking, it looked brutal. I wish I could quit shivering, we're a balmy 38!
Air stagnation as I understand it is air that is not moving and is holding pollutants close to the ground. Hard on people with breathing problems, like my DH. I think it's just a different way of saying smog. That advisory is in our area as well as yours.
Chilly all day today and really damp. Cupboards got started, cats may never forgive me (again).
LOL on the cats not forgiving you.
For some reason I didn't think the PNW got smog.
current temp is 22. We got a dusting of snow a little while ago. It looks like someone dusted confectioners sugar on the ground.
Yeah, we get smog due to people burning their wood stoves and the air is still. I so don't envy you right now, it's 30 here. It got down to 22 last night and the cows stock tank, the chicken's water, the sheep's water and the pond all froze again. I had to go out and turn on the tank and bucket heaters again. Ugh!
Susan
It has been pretty nice around Portland the last few days and we are expecting partly cloudy and about 50 degrees through the weekend. I think I will try to get all the broken branches, etc cleaned up. It seems like most of the plants will survive but there are a few I don't know about - I don't even know what they are! All the blueberries and camellias I planted in November look fine.
Rc I love the pics of your dogs. They have really grown. They are very photogenic!
Sally how exciting that your cupboards are under way!
Jan - On the west side of the Cascades, smog does occur, but doesn't last too long due to the amount of rain we have. Normally this happens in summer, with the occasional hot spell.
We are getting some unusual warming this week. I hope it lasts through February, but not very likely. Hard to believe it's still January, and wondering when this cruel hoax will surprise us with more icy conditions.
Our warm spell is completely gone. Now we've got cold, cold wind. It's 36 now, so we're in for another cold night. Cupboards are coming along, he's done taking things off and down, starting to do the resurfacing. We went and bought new knobs today. I'm glad this won't take too long, cooking is not fun right now. Tomorrow night is potluck, YEAH, I can make a dish in the crockpot and not have to cook dinner.
Cats are still mad, but they do come out right after he leaves. They have smelled every spot that man has touched!! Pookie spent the day in the closet, not a happy kitty! She's not speaking to me yet.
Sounds like my last two cats when we brought the dog home. They would come down off the tower when the dog was out and smell, and sniff, and smell the carpet until I thought we would have a dog shaped outline in that area.....they never didreally totally forgive us for bringing that THING home with us...
Really!! Never!! That's so funny, but it sounds like my two. They can really get a kink in their tails.
Hours later and Pookie has found a way to get even. She will not let me tat. Everytime I pick up my shuttles she gets in my lap and bats them out of my hands! The little monkey.
Thanks all! Those two dogs are just adorable and they definitely photograph well. My sister has lots, and lots, of beautiful pics of them. I'm pretty sure that it's something to do with there lovely coates and maybe, must maybe the fact that they're nearly identical and inseparable :-p It was a cute picture for the contest, but the one that won was a great photo.
Katye, for some reason we are the opposite of you in our stagnate smoggy air. But, it might be just the valley here. I haven't really paid much attention to what other areas has those advisories and when. The only time we ever have the advisories in the summer here is when there is field burning or forest fires with shiftless air. Funny how it's completely different for us.
I'm not saying anything bad about the weather in our area now. So far this frigid crud that's hitting most every where north and east of us is leaving this valley with typical winter stuff. I'll take ours and say Thank You!
Sally, your cats are funny!
Tricia, yours are as well. I'm sure that if I brought a dog home not that they've become used to not having one. They would look at it as "the thing" as well and they'd never let me forget that.
Jan, are you still staying at a reasonable temp compared to other areas out your way? I sure hope so.
Those cats are too funny!!!
Current temp is 15 at 10:30 am. which is COLD for us, but reasonable, considering the below zero weather many north of us have. I am sitting in an east-facing window now and the warmth of the sun is toasty. We close the vent in our room since we aren't sleeping there, but in the room next to mom. It is frigid to go in to get clothes out of the closet. I put them near a vent to warm up before dressing. LOL
Brrrr, Jan.
Sally, I can't even imagine doing needlework in my household. My cats don't even let me read. Neither do the dogs, for that matter.
Redchic, what kind of dogs are your sister's white dogs?
I'm thrilled, have hellebores getting ready to burst, witchhazel all decked out in its finest with two different witchhazels ready to burst right behind it. And my lemon tree is in bloom. Mmmmmmm, what a smell. I'm looking forward to lots of lemons in the spring. It was outdoors last summer and something would eat each of the lemons when it got about kumquat size.
Well, looking at weather around the country I will keep my nice balmy 39 degrees right now according to the bank reading a few minutes ago!!
My mums knee has been giving out on her the past week......Tuesday had an appt., they looked at it took an x-ray....doesn't show anything according to the x-ray tek....the Doctor (I know I am getting old, this child, she doesn't look old enough to be a doctor) said it looked like very minor degeneration but not enough to do anything...take IBP or Aleve and come back in a month if it isn't better. We had to go up and get a walker because she was afraid she would fall. Last night she was in her work room and it gave way on her...she managed not to fall because she had the walker with her.....she didn't want to bother me...It is a whole 20 FEET from my house to hers!!!!!! So she spent all night in pain, called and got a doctors appointment for ten this morning then called at 9:15 in tears to see if I would drive her to her appointment!!!! They are going to do an MRI at 6 tomorrow night.....still don't know what is going on!!! To top it off she gives me a check to go to the grocery store for her....she uses her credit card for everything, so she hasn't written a check at Safeway in the past 30 days so they won't take the check without her and her I.D. What a PITA!!! Just put it on my card and forget it...which is what I tried to get her to do in the first place......
I think I have had enough fun for one day!!!
