Omg, sorry we've not posted these past few days but Betty has not even given us time to unpack..it's work/work/work..and no whistling while we work either...
Betty was excited about our visit and she had just send Cedric and Bailey off to Janice and was feeling a bit lonely on her own.
Bullwinkle and the lads, searching for new home?
Sailor/Missy and Riley the furries sat us down and told us all about their lives living in this community and especially living with Betty...
Her waking this morning just before 2:00 a.m. and deciding to be productive rather than tossing and turning made me and the lads think perhaps we should have picked another home until Betty's Christmas vacation has ended...we're not quite sure why Betty refers to this being 'her vacation' because she hasn't stopped yet..
Just as I got onto the computer to post I heard her say 'bath time everyone' could this be she'll truly 'nap'???
We did have fun today thought..always something going on...
Betty had committed to making a tarp for her cousin Doug's scoot...some of the work was done here at the house but most had to be done onsite..
After working on the tarp for 2 hrs (omg that was about 2a.m. and then cutting almost a quilt top of blocks) we left and headed into Penetanguishene to meet Doug..
Upon arrival he welcomed us to the shop, had made Betty a table to work on, coffee and sweets and a comfy chair for us..
Betty did fib though, probably not intentionally..she said we'd be home by around noon...NOT...
Doug explained the purpose of his scoot and the maintenance which must be done..he lives on an Island year round up in Cognashene..about 15 or so families do as well..quite secluded unless you have a boat/scoot/snowmobile which he has several of each...
During the non-freeze period which normally is about 3 weeks, Doug uses the scoot to reach the mainland on weekends...he works for a large construction firm and builds cottages, not really cottages he says when all are well up over the million dollar price range...
He built his own 'scoot' and it's called 'Bug Eye' (his nickname since a little child)
It was fun to watch everyone enjoy the day while working..we'd check out what the mechanics were doing, the mechanics were checking out our project and we made sure all were doing what should be done...lol..
Doug and Betty worked together while enjoying each others company..Betty said Doug is her most favorite cousin..now we know why after spending the day with him...
Waving night/night...tomorrow promises to be interesting...
Betty did say though that she might be sad from time to time as it was New Years Day her DH passed on and many memories and tears are shed during the next few days...our being here she said would surely bring her joy...
So glad the lads are there to help you get through the next few days .. hopefully there will be smiles mixed in with the tears ...
Love the pics .. and just KNEW you guys were BUSY LoL
~M~
lol, the lads are having a good time!
Betty, just don't let the gnomes into baked beans.................
Oh they've arrived! Interesting about the tarp and island life.
Sandy
by 7am we had run out of grout for about 8 tiles so off to Home Depot for more..upon arriving home Doug was indeed waiting in the yard so that repairs could be done to the back deck entrance..wind did a bit of damage..all fixed up by 9:00...then we completed our grouting and what a clean up..thank goodness she had listened to us and put down a drop cloth..had more on her and her hair because doing the ceiling isn't easy...lol..clean up didn't take long...
At this point we thought surely it would be nap time, but no Betty thought that we should call Cathy who cuts her lawn during the summer to take her out for buffet lunch as a Christmas thank you but mostly because she wanted to buy wallpaper...money was on the counter of the wallpaper store (Color Your World) when the young man noticed dye lot differences and that they would no longer stock this design..so off we went searching other stores...we didn't know that all others you had to pick from books and order...3 week delivery date..now this didn't go well with Betty who wanted to be wallpapering by 4:00 this aft. lol...so home we are..
Toss up will be should we get into a project or into jammies and all have a quiet night?
Any odds as to what we'll do?
Here's our finished product..must wait for curing before adding ledge sylicone
Nice job...looks great. Must have been the cheering squad. ^_^
Before I go back and read, I'm including a link back to previous adventures of these lads. I'm afraid I missed the beginning of THIS thread; si I'll have to get caught up. If you are interested in their previous adventures, follow the link back. And I think each previous thread has a link to the one before it.

Glad to see the lads are being kept busy. Did they get time for a party on New Year's Even? We all know they really like to party.
Sorry everyone, we didn't party last night, we did sit and see the clock turn over to 2009 but we were up early this morning...
Betty worked hard putting her Christmas things away, all on top floor, tomorrow the bottom floor...then she started her rag quilt and we sat showing her tricks of the trade...
Melanie tried to have us 'sip' wine but thought best not to as we certainly don't need a hang-over come morning..Betty says it's off to Midland early/early...now what is early for her???
So it's off to bed we go..
Another early morning, Betty thought we should go to town...Walmart was open at 7am so we were able to shop with few people out as yet...it will be a new superstore, meat and veggie counter still not open until end of month but all else is open for business...
We were able to purchase 3 more totes..they were marking christmas decorations down to 75% but Betty said we have enough otherwise we'd need more totes..we did convince her that the tree skirt would look pretty downstairs around the main tree...she agreed!
Midland Walmart...
Goint to the replica of the Fort Ste.Marie would have been enjoyable..Betty said that in each of the houses they have students performing duties such as they did in the early years when the missionaries were there...Indian smoke house, first type of lock system used from the bay into the fort to enable canoes to travel freely, church and so many other buildings..perhaps another time...
Good to see the boys are keeping busy and a little hard work won't hurt those lads one little bit.
Elaine and Otis
Betty showed us the grain elevator..much used because it sits at the mouth of the bay for boats to have easy access...the mural painted here was done in twofold..Mr. Lenz the artist of all the murals passed on when it was 2/3 done..his sons took on finishing the project...
Showed the 'courrer de bois' and the 'indians' along with 'missionaries' true heritage of this region
We took the chance of going into a decorating store, Tripps paints and decor...only to find out that any wallpaper purchased had to be ordered..Betty did find a design, took the book to see if it would match the 'cafe' room...on our way out of town Betty thought that we should drop in to the 'ReUse It Store for Humanity' just to see what kind of goodies there might be...in the far corner we pointed to wallpaper..hundreds of rolls but only several designs had more than 2 rolls..it would be cutting it short with 3 double rolls...there on another counter we were able to find 4 double rolls..when Betty asked the gentleman how much, he said $3.00 per roll...wow..could do the entire hallway for $12.00..she sure was smilling..not quite what she wanted but it would do..when we got to the till, the salesman said it was just over $4.58 TOTAL...she was doing a jig in the store...major sale today...
She explained that she really didn't want anything loud, something that just blends in, much same color as the paint that is already there..why do it then we asked??? lol
She said we'll do the hallway today and later when she finds exactly the right wallpaper, she'll do it again...sounds like work to us..but, we'll keep her company...
Off to wash the walls with what? tps????
What a great buy on the wallpaper! But I can see trouble ahead if this trio gets to help.
Thanks for the lovely tour of those interesting murals.
Ann
That train station mural is outstanding. Major score on the wallpaper. Hope they are helping you, Betty, and not in the way too much. I've wallpapered with DH before and in our house it's certainly a challenge with more than one person. I no longer have ANY wallpaper in the house....!
Sandy
Everyone has joined in, trouble, mega trouble..on one side of the hallway someone put the wallpaper that looks like tile on the wall and then through the years ended up painting over it several times...
OMG started to pull it off and look what we found, nothing we were looking for for sure...oh/oh..it was panelling..what to do/what to do...I told Betty with all the craft material downstairs there must be some compound that we could at least fill in the panel crevis...yep, we found 'dap'..even Sailor and Missy were checking things out..Riley, we'll she just sleeps for all of us!
Did this deter us, no it didn't, we're all bound to have a hallway wallpapered by midnight tonight..lol..maybe this way Betty will sleep in till at least 6am in the morning...
Melanie just came to visit, she brought us 2 large roasts to cook and then slice for Greg's big party tomorrow...fun city I think...we're trying to keep Betty from forgetting about the roasts cooking..from what we've read/heard she burns most everything including 'water'..heads will roll if 'we' burn the roasts...
GOOD LARD BETTY !! Get those roasts cooked and leave the 'trouble trio' to dap for ya .. under the able supervision of Sailor and Missy .... You might experience a WHOLE new spin on 'decor' were you to let THAT happen ..
Bonne chance with the wallpapering
