after christmas sales

Catlady, I wish I could run into some of those amaryllis deals. I just love them. I did make it to the HGC 70% off sale, but all I got was a huge ceramic planter. It was at a really good price and I needed one for a niche by the front entrance. I put a red yucca in the back and it will be surrounded with seasonal color. Right now there are pink snapdragons, white and gold pansies, blue lobelia and some pink alyssum. It made a really pretty container with the spiky yucca in back.

This one is for you Planolinda~ I waited for the buds to open and then for the light to be right.

This is a real close photo of the bloom on the trailing rosemary. 8 )

Your picture is so pretty, Pod. My friend that lives in Georgetown has the trailing rosemary everywhere. Hers is in a rock garden in full sun, totally neglected and it thrives. I have a hard time just keeping the bush rosemary alive. HD has it growing in their medians in awful conditions and again...it thrives. I'm going to move the little piece I have left.

The flowers in your picture are amazing. One of those occasions that truly exemplifies....stop and smell the flowers.

thank you pod! and i love that you "waited for the buds to open and the light to be right" -
very pretty--i wish all my regular rosemary did that! i will be on the lookout for trailing rosemary!

LOL ~ I actually kept trying to take photos and the blooms would look so washed out. They are real delicate and the palest tinge of purplish blue. Others have said their regular rosemary blooms but mine never has.

LouC ~ thank you... I think neglect is the "ticket" for rosemary. I placed both the trailing and the regular ones in a raised spot that remains fairly dry. I don't water and let them catch as catch can. They haven't grown huge and I do think they would like more sun but hate to move them. I may pick up another plant to put in another spot. May look for a different cultivar and see how it will do. I agree on stopping to smell the flowers. I can not pass these plants by without brushing the foliage to sniff my fingers. Of course, I feel that way about most of the herbs. This a.m., I was mixing oregano and garlic chives to see how the blend smelled. Made me hungry! 8 )) pod

I have had 2 rosemary trees and I killed them both. The instructions said that they didn't need much water so I was careful not to overwater. I think I really sentenced them to death when I didn't water when I felt I should. After this I think I will use my own common sense and do what I think is best.
