Daily Pic Vol.164

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

You guys did a great job, on adding some really nice shots, on the last thread. We are getting some new comer, that have posted on the last thread, which makes it all the more exciting. A great big Welcome to all new ones. Please continue adding you wonderful pictures here for all to enjoy.

We came from here, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/933509/

I will start, by posting a bird, I got in my yard last year. He performed a bobbing dance for me to enjoy. We don't get to see this one very often, and I thought it would be nice, to bring him back.
This is a Woodcock

Here's a couple shots of the Brown Creeper. It seems now that when I go out to shoot birds I get lucky and add a new bird to my inventory. I was about to leave as I was nearing the end of my memory card and this little one came out of nowhere at the bottom of this tree. I actually had to delete a couple of shots on the memory card to shoot these pics.

nanny,

I'm so envious that you got the American Tree Sparrow and the Fox Sparrow there already! I'd love to have them here now! Maybe the unseasonably (very) cold temps are bringing them farther South sooner than later. We're suppose to get to 0 tonight with a windchill of -20. Brrr!

burn,

Thanks for starting the new thread and sharing the Woodcock with all of us! 'Neat' bird!

Nice pics everyone!

Nice shot of the Titmouse nanny!

Beautiful male Red-bellied Met! Haven't seen my male for awhile.

Bella Vista, AR(Zone 6b)

This picture cannot compare to everyone's wonderful shots, but I wanted to share a picture of a bird new to my yard. This little Brown-headed Nuthatch just showed up a couple days ago. I am used to the White-breasted, so this little guy was a fun surprise.

Thanks...but the TT is Mets too!! lol

A male Downy checking out the new suet feeder. He seemed a little cautious about it. He kept want to eat from the side like on the little basket!

The Rd-bellied really like it tho!

Love all the pictures of the birds in the snow. And the woodpecker is beautiful. The goldfinches are here down south -- two feeders full of them every day now.

Burn_2007, Thanks for posting the pic of the Woodcock. Even though Sibley's Guide shows them in my neck of the woods in the Spring, I've never been lucky enough to see one. Lee

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

It was 0 degrees F when I looked out this morning. The doves were so cold that they were not eating, just sunning themselves. Sure hope they got all warmed up.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

The heat pump we had put in came with a really nice digital programmable thermostat that also gives you the temperature outside around the unit. We decided yesterday not sure that is a good thing!! It was zero when I went ot bed aorund 11 last night. We are now up to 14...whoo hoo!!

The little Goldfinch and I are both happy I got the heated dish!

as are the House Finch.

Thanks for the new thread Burn... I love that Woodcock!

Beautiful pics on this new thread everyone especially the ones showing sun and blue skies!

We also have had the zero temps and this morning I noticed a Goldfinch hanging upside down from a shephards hooks struggling to get free. I went to check on the poor little thing and discovered one of its little feet had froze to a calling card on the metal. I had to scrape it off with my fingernail but it flew off with no problem. I've never seen it happen before.

I have also had this tail-less White-crowned Sparrow around for a few days. I don't know what happened to it's tail or what it's chances are but I've seen it fly off.

Edited 'cause I can't spell!

Our heated bowls are getting a work out too Nanny as well as the fake waterfall that has a stock tank heater in it!

The Carolina Wrens had decided that the Christmas wreath in the garage is the place to roost! It is too dark to get an indoor pic but here is one outdoors!

I love those Fox Sparrows Nanny...but haven't had one in the yard yet...just in the tree lines!

Your all welcome and thank you.
Love the Brown Creeper and your Red Bellied Wp Meth. I don't get those here. Maybe the Brown Creeper, but don't get to see them.
I now have the Starlings raiding the suet, Nanny. They scare the Woodpeckers off and take over.
mrw. nice close up or your Goldfinch. They are so innocent looking.
That a poor White Crowned Sparrow, hope that's not going to affect him this winter. But he seemed to have master his skill of flying without it. You have a cute Wren there Rose.
We're having a bad winter storm, with winds, it brought in a few extra birds to the feeders.
Some of those are the Pine Grosbeak.

And the female Evening Grosbeak.

Thanks Burn...the little WC Sparrow was just here...so far so good. That little Wren was singing to the dogs in the garage this morning!!
Your Grosbeaks are just beautiful and the Evening takes my breath away. I am so happy to see that the Redpolls are back..I still remember them from last winter.

Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

OOOH I just love that woodcock. Can you send him to me for Christmas please? So Cute!!!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Thanks Rose and Rntx, I doubt very much, I'll ever see a Woodcock again, I was just so in aww, that I was able to see it. and get a picture of it. One of those rare things for me. lol But it was fun while it lasted.

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks Nanny and at under $20 bucks that's a steal compared to the heated one's I've seen. Do you know the technical specs (i.e. depth, width, length etc.)?

Also, I've notice you have rocks in the bowl. I assume so it's not to deep for the birds. Do they really flock to the bowl?

Mine is on the way. The local store does not stock them.

Thanks

Orchard Park, NY

Thanks for the sparrow comparison nanny. That was very helpful.

Aww poor little white-crowned sparrow. Maybe he can fly, but just not straight since he is rudderless dell. Wrens singing to the dogs - cute. Nothing like "red-belly" red methodical - one of my favoriate birds.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Sorry for the poor pic...shot through the window and the window pane got in the way but this will give you an idea of what goes on at mine. I also have two bricks in mine and have seen the White-crowned Sparrows standing on the lower one taking a bath in this cold weather!

OP..the little WC Sparrow seems to be doing OK...it has been in the yard today along with tons of Cowbirds! Grrrrrrr....
