ooo, nice, Rose! I've never seen one of THOSE either.
I'm hoping that the appearance of the American Tree Sparrow from way up north means that the Redpolls are not far behind.
You have great pics of the female - I have only ever seen the males
great shots everyone!
no pictures to share, but I have, for the first time, an airborne predator. Today is the second day in less than a week I've found feathers on clean snow (no tracks to/from). Can't tell for sure what birds got caught. Now when I look out the office window from my desk I see feathers all about :(
Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get a view of the predator bird - I only get to see them up close on these forums. I know they have to eat too, so I'm ok -- as long as they let me see them :)
I neglected to click "watch thread" and was thinking things had been awfully quiet, so I'm waaaaay behind. Have nothing to post - only Ospreys - LOL. Fabulous birds, including ones I haven't seen before including that gorgeous little Woodcock. Rose, when I posted some pics of a Grey Butcherbird some time back, you said they sounded similar to your Shrikes. Now I can see why. Their appearance and particularly the hooked beak is so similar.
Whilst I'm typing this a small flock of Corellas just flew by. No doubt heading off for a day of fun, destroying the the golf course greens.
Beautiful pics everyone!
Two winters ago, I first encountered the Chestnut backed Chickadee here, though the stay was brief. After waiting a year, I saw them make just one pass through last winter. What a disappointment that was.
This winter they have been here for several weeks so far, but thay still don't come to the feeders. They seem to prefer the Incense Cedar seed. Those little boggers are as quick as the kinglets, and it's hard to get a decent image of them. I finally got some I'm somewhat happy with today.
Oh wow, I have never heard of those chickadees. COOL! And great eagle!
Jane, Nice shots! Love the pigeon.
Tiger, Great job getting the Chestnut-backed Chickadee, shame their so fast.
Lovely Eagle shot!
Jane it looks so nice and warm where you are!
How cool is that tiger!
Wow, chickadee in another color. cool (nice to see an actual picture instead of the drawings in my book!)
