Awww...too cute Mrs. Ed. I will have to start looking for mine!!

The Loggerhead Shrike returned this morning! Bad lighting so this is the best I could come up with!

Nice shot of the RB Woodpecker too!

Thankyou for the info. I wonder where pop is? This female is the only one I have seen. BEV

ooo, nice, Rose! I've never seen one of THOSE either.

I'm hoping that the appearance of the American Tree Sparrow from way up north means that the Redpolls are not far behind.

Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

You have great pics of the female - I have only ever seen the males

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

They must not stay together like some birds. I don't know. BEV When it is cold all the birds get along. BEV

Nice shots Bev...love the elegant female Woodpecker!

He kept it up for about 45 minutes. Flying from the tree to one of the spots on the ground!

great shots everyone!

no pictures to share, but I have, for the first time, an airborne predator. Today is the second day in less than a week I've found feathers on clean snow (no tracks to/from). Can't tell for sure what birds got caught. Now when I look out the office window from my desk I see feathers all about :(

Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get a view of the predator bird - I only get to see them up close on these forums. I know they have to eat too, so I'm ok -- as long as they let me see them :)

Very weird Nanny. I guess this cute one just wanted to see what everyone was eating.

Love all the photos!

The Cedar Waxwings are here for their yearly dose of Toyon tree berries.

The Gold-Crowned Sparrow seems to love the light rain we were getting.

Oh Duc, your little Gold-crowned Sparrow is so cute! Trying not to worry here...the roads are sheets of ice here after an afternoon of freezing rain, but DH is now 2 hours late....

I neglected to click "watch thread" and was thinking things had been awfully quiet, so I'm waaaaay behind. Have nothing to post - only Ospreys - LOL. Fabulous birds, including ones I haven't seen before including that gorgeous little Woodcock. Rose, when I posted some pics of a Grey Butcherbird some time back, you said they sounded similar to your Shrikes. Now I can see why. Their appearance and particularly the hooked beak is so similar.

Whilst I'm typing this a small flock of Corellas just flew by. No doubt heading off for a day of fun, destroying the the golf course greens.

Beautiful pics everyone!

Las Cruces, NM

Great pictures everyone. I'm envious of all the snow everyone has. It has been so windy here that I haven't gotten to do much bird waching lately. Yesterday wasn't too bad; so I went to the park for awhile. Here's a ring-necked duck that lives at the pond.

Here's a boat-tailed grackle. Sometimes I wonder how they can fly with such a long tail.

Last one. It's just a pigeon; but I love their iridescent colors when you catch them in the sunlight.

Two winters ago, I first encountered the Chestnut backed Chickadee here, though the stay was brief. After waiting a year, I saw them make just one pass through last winter. What a disappointment that was.

This winter they have been here for several weeks so far, but thay still don't come to the feeders. They seem to prefer the Incense Cedar seed. Those little boggers are as quick as the kinglets, and it's hard to get a decent image of them. I finally got some I'm somewhat happy with today.
