Show Us Your Bird Feeders Vol.10

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Weather permitting I clean them outside with their own brushes/disposable sponges mild detergent and a strong spray from the hose. Colder months I just use my kitchen sink, then disinfect my cleaning area when done. GM

I put my PB covered cob out in the platform a couple days ago...today a crow flew off with the whole darn thing! lol

you probably made the crow VERY happy. "I've hit the jackpot!"

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh they were very happy i'm sure...gues that's the point huh?? Rose, how did you do that??

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

oh wow Rose, you put the stuff on the whole corn cob. I was only putting it on the "empty" cob.

rofl laughing Nanny! Sounds like something that would happen in my yard!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Hi Nanny and Mrs.Ed! I did use an empty cob on one but couldn't get the corn off of this one. It sure is a messy job though...I had peanut butter all over the place! The Starlings are loving it this cold morning! I'm going to get some more eye screws when I go to town today and hang some more in different places and see what happens! I would love to see the Nuthatches and Chickadees find one.

Nice pic Rose.It does sound like a messy job.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Pelle...it is a window shot! After all the mess this is not what I had envisioned!! LOL! I think I will hang the next ones from monofiliment with a little more head room so the Starlings can't pig out on them.

I just found this thread! Such a variety of feeders out there. I have to show you my recycled feeder DH made. He took 2 different sized plastic flower pot trays. Stuck them together with part of an old tomato cage and ta da!! One bird feeder with roof!

Hi, all! I've enjoyed lurking on the thread but until this week I didn't have my camera up and running so I couldn't post (not that I have anything interesting coming to my feeders this winter~~I don't really understand that, but oh,well...).

So I wanted to post a photo of our little holiday bird feeder set up we can see from the breakfast table.

We received the big copper sunflower hearts feeder from my BIL & SIL for Christmas. It's a very nice feeder (much grander than anything we would buy for ourselves) but it seems like just the finches like to feed from it.

I found the little gnomies at Harbor Freight for like $6. for the 3 of them on clearance just before Christmas, so I decided to use them for a little 'holiday' scene. Sometimes I can get up to a dozen red cardinals feeding from the bird table or the other feeders and it makes quite a jolly picture while we eat breakfast. Of course, everything flew away when I tried to take this pic! My best to all, t.

That's a beautiful scene t!

I bought some of those colored seedballs that are made like Christmas tree
ornaments. Last week, I saw a squirrel going across the street with a big red
seedball sticking out of it's mouth. It climbed the neighbor's dogwood tree, way
up near the top. It perched for a while to eat, then I saw it actually wedge what
was left of the ball in one of the branch collars. It came back later & finished
off the treat. That kind of persistence & ingenuity has to be (grudgingly) admired!

great story, carol!

Due to the extreme cold, I put the old tray feeder out on the front porch. Love getting them up so close!

Here is my "Squirrel Under Glass" feeder. Look also on the lower left corner, you can see a head peeking out of another Squirrel feeder.
I gave up fighting the Squirrels. I feed them, they have these 2 feeders, 2 corn feeders, block feeder, and can go on any of the 3 platform feeders if they want to "share" with the birds. They also come up to my bedroom window sill to find nuts I put out.
As long as I keep their feeders full, they don't destroy the bird feeders.

Good for you!! All they really want is food, treat them like the other critters in your yard and everyone will be happy!

Star Suet Feeder is a favorite of many. Got it from Gardener's Supply online a few years ago, looked for another but no luck. Must of stopped making them.

This feeder is the favorite of all the small birds. I have seen a Cardinal sit inside of it and feast, though.
Can't find another one of these either.

Daylily, I just love that last one. Wish I had the talent to engineer one like it.

That last one is cool!

I've spent an hour looking at a million websites for those birdfeeders. I would love to own them too.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Really like them too...

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Daylily - is there any manufacturer's name or part number on that last one that we could google??? It is really neat looking.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thought I would share a pic of a female Eastern Bluebird entering the feeder cage I rigged up last year. It is made from those coated wire storage thingys and has worked very well for feeding the Bluebirds. I have an old divided bowl inside that has homemake suet, mealworms and chopped raisins (that have been soaked overnight) and chopped grapes.

I started using the cage because the Mockingbird was eating all the worms. I now keep a bowl on top of the cage so the Mocker gets it's share too.

Very neat Rose!

I made a mixture of peanut butter, corn meal, hulled sunflower seeds & peanut chips.
Some I put in the suet feeders, some I made into balls for the birds & squirrels.
In this shot, some starlings are enjoying them.

Ohhh! I bet my crows would love those.

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Look what my boss was putting to the curb! I have big plans for it this spring, maybe a "hummer haven" ?
Or just an all around bird feeder.

See how nice it will be for the birds! Three levels, too! Lightweight and on wheels. Its very easy to move.
I rolled it home yesterday! GM
