Chele, that is positively inspiring! You go! lol!

First Time WS #3
Jim your pictures are lovely. All we are having here is extreme cold. I love the look of snow. Always cut off my hosta blooms but yours have inspired me. I would probably not get the snow and just have some sick looking hosta stems.
I'm sending a picture of a Chantilly Orange snapdragon that I ws'd last year. I only had one plant and babied it to death. Hope it returns but I ordered more seed just in case. I also managed to save a few seed at least I think there is seed in all that stuff that came out of the pods. Will plant and find out
Well, I just checked my stash and I now have mixed gaillardia sprouts! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this weekend.
About that lavender sprout, nothing else in that pot has sprouted, so I'm wondering if that's a stray weed that somehow got into the potting soil. I don't know how it could have, since I had my potting soil, pots and everything else on top of the picnic table on the patio when I was sowing them. I'm keeping my eye on that one!
Spring can't come soon enough for me. I'm so excited about this winter sowing! If it works for me, I'll be gung ho next year for sure.
Angie
Angie, I wondered that too, about your lavender sprout, but didn't want to say, LOL! But as for how it got in there, if it is not something you put there, well, they do have their ways...... I believe plants even in the seed stage are way more intelligent than we tend to give them credit for. ;-)
My little spinach babies are just sitting out there waiting for it to be warmer before they send up anymore energy, looks like, and so far nothing else has gotten activated, that I can see.......
Kyla
I'm so envious..........I've got anywhere from 1 & 1/2 to 2 feet of snow on everything and 0° with a wind chill of -20°.
C'mon guys let me live through you.
Cherie
Well, Cece, we're supposed to be getting temps in the low teens, with winds and some possibility of sleet and snow this Sunday. Snow I don't mind, but anything with ice in it is not what I want to see. However, I'll take any precip that God sees fit to send us! We've been in extreme drought status for a couple of years and still pulling out.
I'll let y'all know what the stray seedling is in my lavender jug.
Angie
Jim, very beautiful snow scene with the pond.
We have been cold, cold, cold this past week or so. We've gotten a bit of show, and it's been staying around. I'm planning on starting my WS the first week of Feb., weather permitting. I have already ordered some seed and have some seed from previous years. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait.
Karen
I love that snapdragon, Indy. Sure hope it comes back for you.
I've not had any success at all with perennial snapdragons, so did not get any seed this year.
May have to rethink that if WS is successful.
18 degrees here this morning, headed into single digits tonight. Should I throw a blanket over my WS jugs? Only thing sprouting so far is mixed gaillardia and one questionable lavender.
I'd either cover it or bring move the 2 containers with sprouts into the (unheated, I hope) garage.
But, that's just me!
Okay, I did it. Being the first time, it's kind of scarey. Anyway, we used the old coolers cut in half and I have about 50 seeds in each one. That maybe too many in one container but I'm just learning. However, our temps are now in the 50s-60s (teens last week) so will have to see what this weather does to me. I'm so hoping this works. (Fingers, toes and eyes crossed for luck!) I've planted 14 so far with columbine, poppies, begonias, sunflowers, liatris, rudebeckia, astilbe, celosia and other odds and ends. Wish me newbie luck! Thanks, Peg
Good luck, Peg. It should work just fine- you have some sure-fire seed choices there. Do you have plenty of holes in the tops and bottoms of the coolers?
Karen
Karen, yes. I made sure each one of them was draining as I planted, and then made sure they would drain sitting on the table, since I'm having to keep my puppy away from them. Now, it's just wait and see, LOL, but I sure have big visions in my mind. Peg
We are over 200 posts so come say hello on the new thread. I will post it now.
Here's the link to Thread #4 http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/944082/
