O well catch you next summer for sure Sof, but we will stop to see Karen and your beautiful garden on our way through. Thanks for the invite.
How about PNW Round-Up?
Katie it's a pink waterlily, I think it might be http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/50607/ it was in one of the ponds at the Oregon Garden.
Okay - a waterlily, sure. I don't have any water features, so water plants are always off my radar. It's very cheery.
I'm planning on putting together a very small water feature this year in a large pot that I bought at Costco last year. I want to put one of those in it, I just love the color and texture.
Got to set up Vac, for this. Trailer may wait till next year. but this is a must too LOL
YEAH!!! I can't wait for you all to come to Buckley!!! We are about half an hour from Tacoma. We have lots of room for everyone, kids and dogs are welcome, too. If any of you are so inclined, Joe can set up the Karaoke machine and we can build a big campfire. Feel free to come and go as you wish. Let me know who wants to use the motorhome , sleeps 4 (Queen bed and fold out couch), travel trailer (sleeps 6, Queen bed, fold out couch, and fold down dinette), Queen bed in motorcycle trailer, Loft in Barn has queen size futon bed and a couch and lots of floor space. In the house: Queen bed in upstairs guest room, Queen Hide a bed in my office downstairs, couch in Joe's office upstairs and couch in downstairs family room. Plus we have 2 blow up mattresses that can go wherever. We have lots of room for parking any other RV's, and lots of space for tents. Sofer, you and your wife gets first pick because you are coming such a great distance and we want your wife to be comfortable. Anyone else with health issues or coming a long distance should also have first picks. I want everyone to be comfortable. We don't have the beautiful yards like some of you have, so please excuse the work in progress!!! I CAN't WAIT TO MEET ALL OF YOU!!!
This is going to be fun!! I'm really looking forward to it.
I won't be coming a long way, and don't have big needs myself, but DH sleeps best in a recliner due to sleep apnea (if such a location were available) with electric outlet for cpap machine. I could throw my pad and sleeping bag down on the floor in any location. I love tent camping, but our tent zipper broke last summer and I'm not sure we'll have a new one.
I'm sure your yard will be getting more beautiful every year as you work on it. Lots of people will be coming to the round-up who will be happy to help you with garden planning I bet.
We have 2 recliners in the family room, so he can choose whichever one is more comfortable You can either .have the couch in there, or we can blow up one of the air mattresses for you. (The air mattress would probably be more comfy. I use a CPap machine myself.
Both my brothers use CPAPs - now there's a technology we all should have invested in about 15 years ago . . .
I too use c pap but require only the loft floor. my karen probably won't be there because I am working in bellevue.
Oh, I'll 'fess up. I use one too. LOL Are there any of us who don't?!?
???? A what????
Net yet here, but if genetics are a predictor I'll end up needing one.
I don't use one - looks like Tilly, Ladybug & I are the only ones! You'd better warn the neighbors - with all those CPAPs going it may sound like an airport. LOL
I am not sure if I can come to the roundup so if I can I will find a place to stay nearby. I don't want to claim a space in case I can't make it.
Will some body tell me what it is, maybe I have my head in the sand and I know what it is. Then again???
Let's make her guess.....
Not FARE , Dummy here. And to tired to think.
Portland, add Sofer and myself to the list.
Tils, a c-pap machine is for people with sleep apnea - you know, the thing where we stop breathing in the night for brief periods, thereby waking our bodies up to start breathing again, thereby never getting any sleep. A part of your throat closes off which prevents air from going in when you try to breath. So you use a machine which gently blows air down your throat and keeps it from closing off. They are all the rage lately and anyone who is anyone has one! ;)
Okay, Now I know, Thank you Gwen.
And No I do not use one, nor any of my family.
The only time I had trouble breathing was in 1985, when I woke up and saw a smoke layer above my bed. I was a camp fire girl and was taught, fine a way out, don't go to the sourse. My Daddy taught us just get out. I watched my house burn to the ground, and my late DH was in it.
Out of curiosity, did you all snore alot? Is that what prompted the sleep studies? Guess why I'm asking.
Oh, Tills, so sorry to hear that. How traumatic!
Snoring is a big clue - snoring and then stopping for a second and then starting up is a bigger clue. Means you've stopped breathing and your body has to come out of REM sleep to get you breathing again.
Symptoms are fatigue . . . and anything resulting from lack of oxygen to the brain. Over time the chronic oxygen deprivation can cause brain damage.
Oh Tills, I am so sorry to stir up such a horrible memory.
Yeah, I snore and gasp for air all night long, and I wake up in the morning with a monster of a headache when I don't use my machine.
Pixy, if you ever do get one, you will wonder how you ever slept without it. It isn't exactly cute to wear, but it sure beats waking up in the morning feeling like you ran a race all night.
Portland, we will have room for you here. Bring your grandchildren if you want to. We really do have a lot of space. It's not the Ritz, by any means. But we think it is a pretty nice "campsite". Later this week, I will post pictures of the sleeping areas, to give you a better idea of where you will be. BTW, the barn is full of toys, not critters, so no cow pie smells!
How structured should this get together be? Should I arrange garden tours, or just gather info and we just decide on the fly? Would anyone like to help coordinate this with me?
Sofer, you just want to crash a sleep-over of a room full of girls! Just kidding. I am assuming you have a good sense of humor. Decide where you really prefer to sleep after I post the pictures.
Tilly, I'm so sorry about that terrible time in your life. That would be something that never leaves you.
We discovered that my DH had sleep apnea when I'd had a back injury and was not sleeping well because of the pain. I lay awake listening to him stop breathing for a moment and then gasp for breath. A couple nights like that and I convinced him to go to the doctor, who recommended the sleep study. Thw cpap does not solve everything for him, but it does help considerably.
Wow, cpap city! Carl is going for a sleep study in March, thank goodness, he snores like a freight train! Two of his brothers have them and they can't figure out how they ever managed before they had Cpap's. They even take them when we go camping in the summer and use battery packs to run them.
Lynn I would be happy to help you coordinate the event.
Are most people thinking that they would like a Sat/Sun event or would you prefer that we include the Friday before or the Monday following?
Heck, I am here anyway, so it makes no difference to me, whatever works out the best in everyone's schedule. I don't care if some or all come Friday and stay until Monday.
Oh thank you Rachel for volunteering to help. We will make this an event to remember!
Tills, wow, what a horrible experience to go through something like that. You are in my thoughts.
Lynn thank you for the offer regarding my grandchildren, but that would be difficult logistically, and the youngest ones are 2 and 4 and I would be just following them around the entire time. But thanks for the kind thought!
The sun is out - cold but sure looks nice!
That was 25 years ago, and a bad memory. But easier to talk about now. But have a phobia of candles, or any thing you burn in the house.
^_^
Tilly, I am so sorry. That must have been devastating.
The way I found out I had sleep apnea (which I had never even heard of) is that I was at the doc's for an annual. One of my complaints is that I was always tired. I mean, I could literally lay down in the middle of a busy street and fall asleep. I often dozed off at red lights.
She was looking down my throat and she asked, "Do you snore?" I started laughing and said "I snore so loud I wake myself up!" (Which was totally true. She said she thought I had sleep apnea and explained it to me. I wasn't snoring so loud I work myself up, I woke up due to the apnea. Or maybe it was both. I can feel my throat closing when it happens so I knew immediately what she was talking about.
Turns out I only have a mild case of it. But since increased risk of heart attack is one of the side effects, and since both my father and paternal grandfather died of heart attacks at age 54, I was concerned enough to follow through on the study, machine, etc. I am now 54 and let me tell you, if I make it through this year, I will be celebrating. I am soooo nervous all the time.
Gwen, Now that sounds bad, what I went true was a set back in life, just be strong and over come it.
What you said is a fear of every day life thats scary. I have very high blood pressure, which I am on meds. to control it. And even then when I get upset, The meds help a little but not that much. Just think A heart attack can be cause by so many differant things. Not one of my family has ever had one. But cancer has been the biggest factor in my family. Which I have been lucky at my age 2 years older than you. I have had skin cancer on my face, which was Basil Cell, and now have a ugly scar on my face. But proud of it cause it could of been worse.
You will live longer than you think. My tantrum is over, sorry
Hugs
yes I will share your chicks bedroom or sleep down with the cows. don't worry about me in my last week in Wrangell AK I slept on a mattress on the clinic floor. no shower only a sink. I can't wait to get to juneau tonight and take a long hot shower. you should have smelled the room when I had 3 tom cats in for neutering.
Gwen - I can see how that has to be a scary number for you. I dated a guy whose dad died out of the blue when he was 39. This guy went through the same thing. He was ecstatic to make it to 40.
Sofer I can only imagine the smell!
I can only say my eyes watered.
Eweeee
Time for a change of topic!
My family was discussing the upcoming Round-Up as part of our vacation this Summer. I of course will be having a lovely time meeting all my DG buddies in person, sharing plants, and frequenting any gardens or nurseries nearby. DH will have a good time if we include some nurseries that have edible landscaping plants such as berry bushes. Are there any good prospects in this area? He also like to meet new people and talk, so he'll enjoy that as well. My teenage son wanted to know if there might possibly be anybody else his age who might come along, if so he might consider coming along with us.
