How about PNW Round-Up?

hey all... does anyone know or have we ever had a PNW roundup? i see that theres alot of them in N cali and the east coast... how about us? washington, oregon, idaho, alaska? i think this would be a alot of fun to get together in the summer some time and trade some plants, seeds and what not and just have a grand ol' time!! anyone interested?

I would if I could, but NJ is a bit of a drive. LOL I'll keep watching to see waht develops for you. I went to a real small one in NJ. We met at an herb farm and got a tour by the owner. A lot of fun. Not much sharing of plants at this one, but I did score some penstemon. I'm looking forward to attending one someday. Have fun.

It could be a lot of fun to have a wider gathering, though I'm sure it would require a fair amount of organizing to choose a place and make sure people had places to stay. Montana needs to be added to that list of states as well, since we have at least one member there, and also northern California. Summer is the best time for me to be thinking about traveling for an event like that, but after the middle of July when my garlic harvest is already complete.

I'm in.
Just have to know when and where. so I can put my Vac. time in.
And if I can help. LOL

montana and n. cali are in too! we need a bunch more people to do this thats why i asked now so we have plenty of time to plan. spread the word everyone!! near and far... (well not to far!) lol

This would be fun! Those of us in the Seattle metro area do get together for work parties & plant swaps: we always have a great time.
Where do you think the most central/easily accessed location would be?
If this was closer to Portland, then it would be an overnight trip for many of us, but less of a problem with lodging nearby.

well im still waitning ot hear from more people about this. but i had been thinking portland but we will have to wait and see who all is interested!

Shaokami, I think there may be many people busy with the holidays and family events right now, so several who could be interested might not respond for a while. I on the other hand am snowed in and on vacation, so I have all kinds of extra time to be chatting on line. I think the Portland area could be a good location. It is possible that my son will be going to a band camp in Eugene next summer, and we could make a family trip to Oregon if the dates happened to match up. I'll have to investigate the time it is going to be held this year.

A number of years ago we went camping at the Oregon Dunes around Florence. It was fabulous, and reminded me of the Indiana Dunes by lake Michigan where my family went camping when I was a kid. This is my dad with his grandchildren. Feels so different than the current scene out my window.

Is it possible to NOT have a repeat of this past summer? Ours was way too cool & ranked poorly with those who live to grow tomatoes each year...

3 - 4 hours by car sounds pretty decent to me.
Of course, where will we put everything if we're loaded up with plants? Oh yes, I seem to recall Pix being able to load her car well beyond what anyone thought was humanly possible, at a similar event a couple years back...will be looking to her for tips.

Sedona sounds yummy right now - but it might not in August!!!

I'm game for a get together - if we make it within a 4 hour drive or so it would be great, but I'd be open to anything.

My allergies were horrible this year. Everything bloomed at once this spring, and then the mushrooms were around for months.

I'd never seen a Mushroom year like this one; and so many types!

hey all! well... i think arizona would be a bit out of the PNW territory! lol...but i bet you guys would love to be out of the snow and weather right about now though :)

well with oregon and washing being pretty short states just about anywhere in the middle would work. and idaho is in the same area. we'll jsut play it by ear for awhile until like maury mentioned peeps get through with the holidays... but we can certainly chat about ideas and possible locations all we want though! we jsut have to see who all gets onboard with us after the beginning of the year. so keep on spreading the word!

Maybe somewhere along the border between the Oregon and Washington? That's fairly easy for most to get to. If there's a lot of interest from Montana and Idaho, then maybe consider something a little more easterly, but still near the border?

thats what im thinking red.. we just have to wait and see who else wants in... then we can get a location set up.

And I would love to be there, too. Who knows what time will bring us?

Hi there I think that would be a great idea. We have had 2 gatherings here at dragonfly and it was great. I would like to have everyone here again maybe in the summer. Maybe if there were differnet areas and lots of pictures. Merry christmas Heidi and the pups

Kayte, I had to laugh about your reference to my car-packing abilities. So true!! My dh is always so surprised!
Just now I am struggling with the idea of transporting some curly willow back home. I'm at dd's apartment in Salem and due to the storm several of the mature curly willow trees at her apartment complex have lost huge limbs. Of course, my imagination now goes wild with what I could do with all that cool willow wood. But getting it home might be an issue...

If anyone can do a great pack job with curly willow - Pix can.
AND most importantly, it will be done artistically.

Oh, if only I had brought my loppers, or even my clippers!! Alas, the branches were too heavy and I talked myself out of it. Too bad, though, they were really nice branches.

I think "Sam Hill" is a good location for all of us to get lost. Or Maybe Tri Cities. Close to Portland, Seattle, and Kalispell. LOL
