not a bird... flying monkey

Hi onewish - It looks like it's precipitating in your area. Is that snow or sleet? I think you've got an adorable little dark-eyed junco. They are ground feeders and will hop around pecking small seeds. When it's snowing hard, though, and they can't find seeds down below they will go to the feeders.

Orchard Park, NY

HA! I understand there's a shortage of acorns. The street that is usually covered by acorns near me had nary an acorn to step on this year. The squirrels are awfully hungry, poor things.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it was mixed at the time.... I attempted to go out to take a photo... got soaked and they all flew away... sigh

there were a bunch of them back there... never saw them before... I just kept telling myself it's too round to be a goldfinch .. the stripes on it were throwing me off though

here is one more

Someone else will be around to confirm, or set me straight, on the bird. I'm sure they will return. The food looks delicious.

Junco for me also.

yah, that's a chubby junco. They are too cute. Mine were here until about April something or other, then back up north for them!

Hi Everyone! BF got this pic of a Northern Harrier looking for lunch last sunday.

Welcome Arejay, you're lucky to have the pileated stick around!

Ha, that's where they are from; Your place Mrs Ed. Thanks. Did your Redpolls arrived yet, You had mentioned that they showed up around the 17 of Dec last year? No sign of them here yet. The goldfinches are less numerous now, haven't seen them today.

A sweet Junco, for me too, Onewish.

Thanks OP, no not a frisbee, but could probably be used as one. ;) It's an oval lid of a pail of kitty litter. I drilled holes in it, to attach it to the suet cage with wire and made extra holes for drainage. Tried it, to discourage the Starling from going to the suet last year, but didn't work. So I use it as a platform feeder on top of the suet.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Oh Nice Shan.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Wonderful shots everyone.

Welcome arejay. Yes, please keep posting your pics.

Two Kookaburras from yesterday, heads back giving their unique "laughing" call. They were, once again, being hounded by the Willie Wagtails and they didn't find that at all humorous.

Sorry, that's an immature Red-tailed Hawk. Much too broad-winged and the wrong pattern for Northern Harrier.

Nope, no redpolls yet Burn. I think last year that it was actually Dec. 24 when I saw the first one. Was last year irruptive or just short of food up north?

Orchard Park, NY

Beautiful GP! The southern birds are so colorful. What is in the grackle's beak? Looks like a cork or coin, but can't be.

Melbourne, FL

The Grackle has grabbed a peanut. Thanks, Pell and OP. Here are my second round of shots from afternoon. Mockingbird first.
