From Rowdy 46
Hi,
I'm sending you a personal email to let you know about my new book release called " Seed to Elegance"
Book tells the whole history of the Kentia Palm. Lots of text and illustrations from the last three centuries.
Did you know that Miss Katherine O. Sessions the renowned horticulturist from San Diego was the first person to introduce Kentia Palms into North America in the late 1800's.
I believe my book will appeal to all plant enthusiasts. For details regarding an autographed copy please see my book displayed in the Garden Bookworm section.
Thanks and Happy Holidays,
Rowdy46.

A little voice in my head tells me this ain't legal...

I don't think they should be d-mailing anyone with unsolicited stuff like that. Part of the AUP on Dg is NO Self Promotion. Sounds like this person is promoting his own book.

You should click on the "Contact Us" icon at the bottom right of any screen and notify Admin. about receiving this D-Mail. They will contact the sender regarding the rules and regs of the DG site.

I'm glad you also submitted this through our "Contact Us" page, and I see Melody has resolved it.

I put it here mostly to see if I was the only one, or if a mass of folks received the same note.

To clarify what happened.

The author contacted us, and asked if he could send out dmail announcements about his new book. I explained he could use dmail to let his DG friends know, but that sending unsolicited messages to people you don't know personally is not allowed--it is considered spam.

He apparently misunderstood the limitations, and proceeded to send out several of these notes to fellow members he was not personally acquainted with. When someone reported receiving one of these unsolicited notes, I contacted him again, and he agreed to stop immediately.

I don't think there was any intent to "spam"--it was a misunderstanding of what was allowed. And probably an over-abundance of enthusiasm for a newly published book; I'm sure most of us would want to shout it from the rooftops if we had a book hit the stores ;o)
