bless you Cmoxon, poor things....
Angora Goats From Rescue
every time i pop in here i see u got new babies to love and spoil, awesome! i love to see ur new additions and hear about them. love ur new babies they r gorgous and congrats!! silkie
It helps with the lap goat tendencies when they are raised around humans. Three of our pygmy goats came from petting zoos and they are the friendliest. But a little cup of cracked corn goes a long way in making friends with unruly goats!
Oh yes, the babies of the wild bunch were much easier to deal with. =0)
Food in a bucket lasted about... twice. The problem was really Wind. She was far too wise and crafty and the other goats watched her. Once she stopped coming for corn, so did they. When we took Wind out of the bunch, everything go much, much easier.
These were not pet or dairy goats, by the way. They were pasture goats. So taming them was not high on the list of projects to get done. Once I got the lice under control, the only thing that required me handling them was foot trimming and yearly shearing.
Which reminds me... the white goat we named Nakomis... daughter of the moon from Hiawatha. She turned into a very nice goat, who had sweet natured babies. Wind's baby, Sirocco, was only half as bad as her.
Meaning that in about three generations or so they may be easier to handle?lol?
LOL
I don't know... The thing is with Wind, she was a great herd mother: smart, alert, quick, and clearly dominant. She kept the gang safe; that's why they watched her. She'd challenge a single dog, charging it with her horns 'locked and loaded', while the others made their get-away.
I've had horses like that. I don't think they ever get easy, they're too smart and strong-willed. But if you can work with them, they make awfully good using horses. If you stay on their good side, and respect their intelligence, they'll do a lot for you.
I was not on Wind's good side. %- LOL
But she was my favorite doe. I just can't resist a challenge. Ow.
Jay
We've got Pollyanna. Ornery, independent, impossible to contain. Beautiful, drop dead gorgeous kids. Figures, huh?!
OMG... Pollyanna!? That's too funny. ROTFLOL
You have luck like mine. The best one is always the one that makes you want to beat your head against the wall some days. Or theirs...
What kind of goat is she?
I started to go into what my friends and neighbors said about how much....LOVE went on in my pasture, but I simply cannot think of a decent way to go about it. I had to return an older gelding who'd sired many a foal until he was gelded at 20. He was a real ladies man.
Ha! Jenks, Love is a many splendoured thing!! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!! Be thankful we have each our several ways!! Some things are best left alone!!
You'd love my herd -the leader is an ex-parade stallion, gelded at around 20, all the does and the cow LOVE him! He is still a ladies man!! Just leads a different herd!!!
I show you mine, you show me yours? Jore is back at the training barn with his previous owner, but I still act like he's mine. He would snort at the neighbor's goats and charge them, skidding to a halt right at the fence. I used to be very Thankful that there was another property between him and the goats, but he was convinced that Billy was going to come get his mares!
What a Handsome Boy!
How do you do the picture thing?
I wish I could take any credit what-so-ever for him.
Under the window that you are typing "Your message:" in, there is a field with "Image" over a window. Click "Browse" to the right of the window and navigate to your photo....
Some "hard to get" for inspiration - to post photos - that is.

Why do I find myself singing Strangers in the night...
Looking at those two, I smell love!
Great pics! Purdy horses!
Giant Donkeys!? Forgive my ignorance! Beautiful! I love the mealy muzzles!!
Do you know anything about St. John's? The college? My son has a scholarship there and is very excited about going all the way out there....
Commander Moxon, I am so sorry for running on -off topic- on your thread.... How are the gora wonders today?

I know OF St. John's, but that's about it. There's a young woman at my Wed. night class I can talk to... are there particular questions? I know a bit more about Santa Fe--what we locals call Fanta Se because it's not really NM--because that's where we do a good bit of our shopping. It's 1 1/2 hours from here.
What you're looking at in that photo are American Mammoth Jacks, a long and illustrious history going all the way back to George Washington and the King of Spain. I'll post this again over on the Equine site, and we can return to the topic of goats here.
I am curious about what's happening with Claire's little fuzzbutts. ;o)
Well, I should start an entire new thread. Or Dmail you. I have relatives claiming "too liberal" and I don't really care, but...just curious.
I don't know anything about donkeys, other than they are really good protection for a herd or any animal they bond with, but I've never seen any that large.....
I must confess, that I am now wanting an angora goat....and getting kind of....chicken about chickens? But I can do abscesses, I can do foaling....I could do bumblefoot???? I'd be having the vet out....
wussy Jenks.
Gotta go bring em in....
Nice to meet you Jay!
I volunteered at the Canadian Donkey Sanctuary in Guelph, Ontario for a few years. I love donkeys of all sorts.
The angoras are well - all washed now and they went outside today to be with all the other goats. We have cold weather coming, so I do hope they will be OK. I should have taken pictures but too busy studying for finals today.
Great to hear the new kids are integrating. Hope they do well in the cold.
Good luck with finals!!!
There's a new thread on Equine... New 'Round Here
Too liberal!? Ooo, that's funny. My liberal friends are beginning to think I'm too conservative. I must be doing something right! LOL By all means, drop me a line, I'd love to hear from you!

The angoras have been "allowed" into the barn by the others. They seemed to be a bit uninvited earlier. Maybe because the wind is so bitterly cold tonight. I am glad to see them in there.
We, and all our animals, are as liberal as it comes....no such thing as "too liberal" on our farm! LOL!
I wont to hear more about you new boy? We need pictures.
Oooo, I hate it when the animals get liberal... it's usually when I'm in a hurry and don't really have the time to go chasing them! LOL
Here's a tip that may help with deciding if the new goats are angora or pygora...
angora fibers have a natural sheen to them. Pygora, on the other hand, is really cashgora, which is to say a blend of cashmere and angora. Cashmere has a mat finish, no sheen. So usually cashgora/pygora has a mat finish. They'll look dull. Though after what these goats have been through--poor nutrition, poor living conditions, and now a bath--you may have to wait for a new coat to come in.
All goats except angoras have an undercoat which is cashmere. The only difference between a cashmere goat and a toggenburg is that the cashmere has been selected to have a long undercoat worth gathering and spinning.
Don't you feel uptown now!?
Puttin' on the Ritz...
Jay
I sure missed out here!! Love, love, love the nose to nose!! That 1st pic reminded me of some 70's perfume -was it Windsong? (beautiful, don't get me wrong...) I'll try to get a picture of "The Herd" -they really are funny -they've just started really pal-ing around together here lately. We only recently introduced everyone to the cow's pasture.
Jenks if you can give a horse shots you can do bumblefoot!!
How about the new llama? Rosco P. Coltrane?...
I dun know. I've done shots of banamine... intramuscular. No intravenous. I think I may just go ask to help someone first.... OH....anytime Harmony wants me to help???
Oooo, definitely get teaching before you do ANY IV injections. Practice with saline. It can be a real mess. I was a vet tech for 10 years, so I know a thing or two about messes. =)
Jay
The IM was enough for this puppy!!
I haven't got any pics of the new llama yet. We named him Rosco after a greyhound we previously fostered. Somebody asked me about the P Coltrane part and I had a completely blank "what on earth are you talking about look" that Kelly now knows well as it often occurs when people refer to television programs. He had to explain my ignorance to them. Sigh. I was only allowed 2 hours of TV a week as a child, and never really liked it much anyway. So, I never saw the Dukes of Hazard and Kelly says I would hate it, and he would know. He told me about the character. Now I am considering changing my llama's name. Rosco was a very good foster dog. I don't want people thinking we named our llama after a TV show. Ignorance is bliss until it bites you in the bum.
It is a good name. I remember the show but not the names of the people.
It's a good name. The TV show was only as good as sneaking TV when you hardly have signal would account for...sorry. Shoulda knowed...
Just wanted to write who cares what other people think. " Hey Eeyore, chin the *#@! up! Hear that beat.....it's the different drummer. Go dance!!! ; )
Oh, and nice goats! They come in other colors, I especially like the red ones! They can get kind of costly depending on the quality of goat, but lovely none the less!
Thanks Patchouli78! I will try to adopt the correct attitude regarding my llama's name!
Kind of funny how names become more than just names. Would anyone name a kid "Adolph" anymore?
Yaaaa, I dont think so. Maybe Rudolph though. hehehe
Or Bethusala. You just don't meet many Bethusalas any more and it's such a luvly name. I too think that you should choose any names you luv. I never pay attention to TVland (except for the rocket science on the Discovery Channel)
I know someone who's name is Toy
oh yes! Discovery....
Lets bring back all the good ol' names! ^_^
Cool! Do they luv it or hate it?
What happened to all the Homers and Harolds I know a lady whos name was Ludie Bell and she has a sister named Ingler (no i didn't miss spell it).
