I think this is one of our very late cardinal babies we had this summer...still looks a little bug eyed.

Nice ones guys!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Nice way to pass an evening, looking at your birds. Thanks for sharing.

Real strong windy cold day today, the birds had a hard time keeping their balance on the branches. They were also looking for shelter.
Here's one with the American goldfinches in the blue Spruce.

When I saw the flash of yellow I just knew that the Am Goldfinches had finally found my feeder but, no, it was a Pine Warbler instead. Glad to have him though

nanny,

Love the Carolina Wren! We had one here yesterday eating nutty peanut butter on an old farm post.

gardenpom,

Love those colorful and gorgeous Buntings! Where did you get your seed mix that is mostly, if not all, millet?

I had a feeder here during the Summer filled with alot of millet and attracted the Indigo Buntings for the first time to a feeder since I've been feeding the birds year 'round since Dec. 2000! :-)

Methodical,

All your photos are excellent! You must have a very good camera!

All nice pics everyone!

burn, I love that pic of the puffed up Goldfinch...he should come down here, the weather is lovely. Marilyn, I generally buy something called Finch mix, which contains millet and cracked sunflower hearts, which they also love. Most of the stores have it. I get mine at Petsmart and Wal-Mart mostly.

Marlton, NJ

Just thought I'd show the squirrel eating the nyjer seed. I took the feeder off the tree in hopes that he would stop but no such luck. (2 pics)

Wow pell, that's just crazy. Mine have no interest. They ate the last plastic finch feeder, but that's because I had that mix of nyjer and sunflower chips.

Marlton, NJ

I know. Mine never had any interest until I put the feeder in the tree.

I won't be doing that again. :-)

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Squirrels are just nuts! Mine are so fat this year that they are falling out of the trees. They have lots of injuries too. I'm not sure if that is from falling so much or if hawks are trying to pick them up, but they are just too fat. One is blind in one eye; one had a huge infected cut on its cheek, and one is holding up one of its legs. All are just obese. Never seen them so fat.

Great pics everyone. Methodical, those robin shots in the berries are stunners and I just love any shot of a flicker! Burn, love the goldfinches! GP, hope those buntings stay at your house. I understand that sometimes when they migrate to Mexico, they are captured and sold as pets.

This picture is pretty horrible, but it's a new bird for me!!! Whoohoo!!! A tan morph of the White-throated Sparrow.

Hey Nanny, when you got me counting the birds I'd marked in my book, I was just over 100. I almost challenged you to a race to 150! That would be madness though, sheer madness! I'd be taking pics of grackles and sparrows all day long! I have them marked differently though for ones that I've seen in my backyard and birds that I've seen everywhere else. 73 birds in the backyard and 33 in other places. I'm pretty amazed by my backyard number considering I have a normal urban backyard that is only six miles from downtown.

LOL... No way would I take on that challenge Elphaba!

From yesterday's walk...the kind of day when I cannot get the camera set right so don't mind the bad pic, okay?!

First of.f I saw a couple Blue Birds in the area where I always see them. So I really think some stay in the area all winter.

Dang. you are SO lucky Nanny. You have so many types of birds still! I've never seen a towhee!

Elphy, my squirrels are FAT too. Do they know something about this winter that I don't??

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

That's what I'm wondering! The finches are really fat this year too. I'm getting really nervous about this winter. It's raining here right now, hard, and we had hail, small, but not too common in these parts. The thunder is telling me that the major part of the storm is still 10-15 miles away!

Nanny, you do have great variety of birds. I'd love to see a towhee!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Shoot, I want to head down to Elphaba's!!

I just wish the weather would improve...I am tired of dark & gray already. lol

Nice group shot at the feeder. American Gold Finch, Carolina Chickadee and a Northern Cardinal.
