Sick Koi! Need Help With Diagnosis

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

That's true about using oil of cloves. It was recommended to me by the dealer. She said set up two tanks of conditioned water and put the koi in the tank with the oil of cloves added to the water. Do what you have to do and then put the fish in the clean tank until it recovers well enough to go back in the pond. That's the only way I can envision doing that. I don't know how much you need to use. Not gonna find out either unless I have to.

Ponders have strange Christmas lists. Top of my list is Aquascape's S.A.B. (String Algae Buster)

This link is just for info. You can get 7lbs for around $120 if you shop around. One tub lasts me a season + for a 2500 gal full sun pond that loves to grow string algae. Because of SAB I "NEVER" have string algae. It works in hours. You don't have to wait for barley bales to work which can be two weeks or more. You don't have those charming barley balls bouncing around in the pond bottom. It doesn't harm pond plants. It doesn't change the pH of the pond. It's all natural and has no effect on fish. It's expensive but I swear I would work a second job to get it if I had to.

Snapple: I am so sorry to hear your news about Momma. I too, would like to see the pictures. I have seen a few surgical egg removals online (probably koivet forum). I'm not skiddish about stuff like that either because I would rather know than be ignorant and avoid knowing/seeing.

Regarding egg bound. It wouldn't matter if you had the koi brushes or not with regards to impaction. The brushes and similar items make it easier on the female and with the hope she doesn't get banged too hard - a sortof protection. I lost my beautiful Hi Utsuri during spawning. I don't know if any of you remember that fish loss this summer (there were so many-who remembers anymore . . .). The fish went missing and I thought it was a heron attack. Days later I found her jammed between two rock crevices-all banged up. At the time I didn't realize that the koi spawned but that was the beggning of water quality issues in my pond. The water really smelled "fishy" after the time. That is when I started doing aggressive water changes.

Snapple, I was looking at the Sacramento Koi "for sale" pages and saw this Hi Utsuri and thought you might like it!

Uh Huh. Is there some bail-out money for I can apply for?

Hey, I said "I thought you might like it" - made not assertions as to affordability, LOL!

I can't imagine paying that much for a fish unless I had a large indoor pond or lived in a warm climate.

It's a beauty! But I'm like to eat regularly. The most I'd go in all seriousness is about $150. That's what I paid for the one I lost. I'll probably see if I can find one on ebay from some of the sellers that have been reported here on DG as reliable with healthy stock. Hopefully I won't spend as much.

Hmmm, couldn't we apply for a government grant to study rare fish?? After all, one that color does not come along very often....... :^)

My DH would greatly appreciate any help he could get. He still thinks a fish's best presentation is deep fried.

And at that price they don't even know what sex it is.

No kidding crazy - I didn't catch that. I think I had sticker shock. LOL It is a gorgeous fish. But you'll never see it in my pond. The Hi Utsuri I lost was a gift from my kids. They went together on a Christmas gift certificate for a pair of imported Mag Noy koi from a local koi retailer. The dealer doesn't get any more koi from Israel because of the koi Herpes virus. Mag Noy now exposes all their koi to the virus with a vaccine in the theory that it will confer immunity and thus their koi will be virus free. Many US importers fear that a vaccinated fish could be a "carrier" and they wont risk importing one.

They have some interesting stuff about KVH on their web site.

Snapple.

a double blow then. A gift from my children is always something that is near and dear to me, just because they gave it to me.

I am so sorry.
