shipping AV's and AV leaves

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't put up a tree because all my adult kids, spouses and grands come at the same time............and no room......but if I buy a lot of garland and greenery with a few lights....the kids are happy. I also put lights across the front of my house and in one big tree by the kitchen window. The grands think that is just fine.......

They are too busy riding the gator and any moving thing on the farm. They will sit up in the cab and close the doors on those big pieces of equipment forever. Their moms and I just visit at the bottom of the door outside!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Greenery with lights is beautiful and adds the magical charm of Christmas even without a tree if you don't have room. Your grandchildren will love it, Gail, and most of all they will love visiting you...their Grandmother and the special time together.

Your tree is so pretty, Goldleaf! I need to get a little more Christmas spirit in decorating, but you are right. The grands just want to come and play on the farm. Thanksgiving, the five year old scared us when he said, "I just saw wild chickens". We ran outside thinking there were wild turkeys which do hang around but these belonged to Peppy down the road. Laughter was big when we realized these were just chickens!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Wild Chickens! ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

To a five year old all those chickens coming this way scared him!!! I didn't want to hurt his feelings but I know he saw us smiling..............when we explained they wouldn't hurt either of them if they came up to him.

Hillbilly_Gran...when I went to Florida around Christmas, people had lights on all kinds of tropical plants and it was beautiful. Hibiscus, palm trees, and heck, why not philodendron?
One of the funniest and cutest things I saw was a Santa sleigh being pulled by a team of flamingos.

If you look close to my bad focus! You can maybe see the bit of stem that is actually still alive on the Pink Acajou, do you think it will make it???? Highland I fine by me!! My real name is Laura, which ever is easier for you is ok fine by me, hey, all of the help you all have been, I will answer to most names anyway!! LOL

Heat Packs, since I'm doing some running today, and I have to pick up a couple of things at Walgreens, I'm going to run in and see what type of heat packs that they have, maybe if they some we all would not have to pay shipping on them?? If someone else has checked this out and I missed the post, please forgive if I'm duplicating something already done!!!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Midget Silver Fox is a keeper! I have one--it is now one of my faves

Highland, IL

If anyone has any more great suggestions for the epi's I will try it! Even the 2 without bags I have put the bags back on them, they were a little better off than the other 2!! Should I go ahead and use the AV food in the water when I water from the bottom?? Keep your fingers crossed! If they don't make it, its ok, at least I tried, but if they do, I will be doing the happy dance!!!!

Highland, IL

I looked it up,its soo cute! I'm hoping to get enough babies to try to keep one, but for now, I'll just be happy to keep this one alive until I can send it to her!!!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

The chiritas look like they made it great. They can take more cold.

Hey Laura-- check sporting goods stores/aisles for the heat packs I know hunters (DH included) use them to keep their hands warm in their pockets--not sure if they are the same type or not.

Edited to add-- I have faded jade-- if yours doesn't live & if I can keep them warm enough this winter will be happy to send one when we do our spring trade;)

HBG- Yes, if they don't make it!! I learned my lesson. they tell you at Robs Violets that they do not guarantee them after Oct. I know I know, I'm just Living Life on the Wild Side!! LOLOL

These are my first Chiritas so I'm really excited about them.

I have 3-4 different starts of Hoyas, the first one I have had almost 2 years, still with no blooms :( and the newer ones are named but are newer.

thank you all again for all of your help with everything!! If I can keep them alive and growing I will gladly share in the springtime with any of you. I was already addicted to the AV's, and now I have to blame HBG for the pink Epi thing and I think Its Gail who is always posting those wonderful pics of the streps and such!!!

The cheapest I can find (so far) is these 72 hour ones on ebaY for $1.99ea
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270313894995

Not ordering yet tho, gonna keep looking for cheaper :-D

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

if you can buy them for 1.99, you better grab them in a hurry. That is a very inexpensive price ..............I am going there right now and buy some.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

One heatpack for 5.30 shipping? I would ask if they could fill a flate rate box first before I bought those.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I haven't actually gone there yet.............I wouldn't buy any heat packs if they weren't shipped in a flat rate box.
The ones I bought I am going outside and see...........what brand.......they sent 12 for 26.00 and 9.00 shipping. Be right back.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok.....mine say UniHeat 72+ hours. Provides an average warmer surface temperature of 100 degrees F.
made by American Pioneer International , LLC>
They are out of Orinda , California
will google

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I found them and have emailed someone's name about them..............get back to you when I hear something..........
